Panic Proof is a really useful book for those looking to find better coping mechanisms for their panic and anxiety attacks. I think it added a few new tricks to my tool kit!
Panic Proof is a unique and fresh guide to exploring anxiety and panic from a holistic perspective. As a therapist and writer, I am intrigued by Dr. Cain's perspective. As all things in the mental health field, I encourage readers to take what resonates with them and leave what does not. I will certainly continue digesting this perspective and applying bits that may ease pain for my clients and myself. Interested in more on the mind body connection.
As an herbalist and natural wellness practitioner, I love this book!
Instead of pathologizing anxiety, Dr. Cain recognizes its place as a natural response to danger and stress, and then discusses different ways of supporting the body to reduce the anxiety response.
This books helps readers to dissect the different ways panic manifests and what might be the best way to tailor a solution to what each individual reader is feeling. Definitely a must-read for anyone who has struggled with anxiety in any of its forms!
I found this collection of tools and strategies to be incredibly well-curated and throughly explained. I could absolutely see myself using this book as a resource with therapy clients.
A great read! Our body/brain/mind are truly awesome! There is a feeling of calmness in the writing style that I found relaxing. There is quite a bit of information that I have not seen before in other anxiety books. And there are so many easy to do & effective actions to bring down panic.
Here are some specifics. I am definitely not a journaler but the section on writing about your “house” was eye opening and proved invaluable! The anxiety stoplight exercise too is amazing. The Notice Your Body’s Communication section is absolutely game changing. And thats just the beginning. There are numerous more wonderful ideas.
So much of our talk about mental health is around medicating or beating your symptoms into submission. It was great to see a book of useful, practical advice about how to retrain the body and mind to lessen anxiety rather than try to [pretend it isn't there.
There's not a single person who doesn't face anxiety at some point in their life. It's universal to the human experience. Panic Proof addresses this head-on and offers practical strategies for managing and overcoming our anxiety.
Dr. Cain outlines very specific "Panic-Producing Habits" (you guessed it: screens were on the list) and "Panic-Preventing Habits" (dry-skin brushing? I wouldn't have thought!).
I appreciate her emphasis on the mind-body connection, and most notably, our breath - which is the most powerful and immediate road to the autonomic nervous system.
Thank you to NetGalley for the advance copy of the book and the opportunity to review it!
I would highly recommend Dr. Cain's book for anyone who looking for an understanding where their anxiety comes from, and how to manage it.
Such a helpful read! Highly recommend.
Many thanks to Netgalley, the author, and the publisher for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
A very helpful explanation of the mechanics of anxiety and how to listen to what your body is telling you through it.
(I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review)
