For fans of The Holiday and Hallmark movies, The Holiday Honeymoon Switch is a best friends, dual point of view, new chance at love in the most opposite of settings. This is the perfect read to kick off your holiday season.
OMG I devoured this in one sitting, it was so good!!! Holly and Ivy are the best of friends and that was really the heart of the book which I loved. They look hecka similar and when Holly's absolute prick of a boyfriend leaves her the night before their wedding, they decide to switch holidays. So Ivy will go on Holly's honeymoon in Hawaii and Holly will go out to a remote eco-cabin in the Hudson Valley that Ivy booked for her annual art retreat. Of course what happens is they both meet the perfect men and fall hopelessly in love. This book is Hallmark Holiday vibes all the way and I mean that in the absolute best way possible. There are no third act breakups, THANK GOD, and while there is a tiny bit of miscommunication and ahh will they end up together it is not drawn out which I appreciated. My only thing was Matt, Holly's dick of a fiancee, felt soo unrealistic with his actions but then I thought back to some of the AITA reddit stories and realized he literally could have been pulled from there! Best holiday read so far this year and I cannot wait to start recommending it to everyone this year!
Two best friends, Holly and Ivy, swap holiday vacations in this latest Christmas romcom from one of my fav Canadian authors, Marissa Stapley (writing as Julia McKay). I loved the dual POV, completely opposite holiday settings and the new chance at love romance storylines. Perfect for fans of Hallmark Holiday romcoms and anyone who is as big a fan of The holiday movie as I am (it's one I watch EVERY year). Great on audio narrated by my very fav, Brittany Pressley. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy and @prhaudio for a complimentary ALC in exchange for my honest review!!!
While I thought this book was mediocre, there are a few romance tropes throughout, so if you are not a fan of 'insta-love', or in which characters miraculously get exactly what they need the moment they need it (fired/quit job = dream job opportunity; cheating ex/cancelled wedding/ bad relationship = perfect new relationship; loss of home = new place to live), this one will not be for you.
I enjoyed the descriptions of both story locales, but that's about it. If you want a light frothy book this could fit the bill.
What a wonderful book! I loved reading both best friend's stories at the same time......switching back and forth was effortless. I love a "swap places" story and this one did not disappoint.
(I received a complimentary ecopy of this book in exchange for an hones review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. thank you Netgalley, Penguin Random House Canada and Julia McKay)
Holly and Ivy are besties. This story has a fun premise. Holly’s wedding is cancelled at the last minute so she and Ivy trade their vacations. Ivy meets a cute bartender, Oliver. Holly runs in to Aiden, a high school friend. It’s a dual perspective book, told by each friend as they experience their vacations. It was a very light read, but because it’s a two-for-one story, it was more of a novella for each friend. Maybe because of the shrunken word count per couple, all tension and conflict was also passed over really quickly so the story came off as almost too sweet. But if you’re looking for an easy holiday happily ever after to read between functions, this will fit the bill.
