A whimsical picture book sure to delight children of all ages. Follow along as the spunky little girl tinkers and tries her best to make something magnificent using her own two hands and some odds and ends, along with a large dose of imagination. Highly recommend!
What a most magnificent book for kids with the most magnificent illustrations and the most magnificent message about never giving up on a most magnificent idea. Love, love, loved it! 5 of 5 Magnificent Stars!

Such fun art on every page with a powerful message. My kindergartener loves listening to this story and has it half-memorized by now.
Thank you, NetGalley for the preview of this digital ARC.
The Most Magnificent Thing by Ashley Spires is a delightful little book that will be a wonderful read for kids of all ages, The illustrations were so adorable. Will definitely read this to my nephews.
This is the story of a little girl who learns the importance of not giving up. Would definitely recommend this one as a gift for all young minds.
A sweet book for the perfectionist in all of us! Haven't we all been there? We have an idea for a craft, a cake decoration, or a new outfit and it simply doesn't turn out the way we envisioned? This young inventor and her canine sidekick have the same problem. Nothing turns out like she plans! But through her frustration, she comes to realize that although not perfect, her creations have potential. Along the way, other admirers see the possibilities of using her previous castoffs in completely different ways than what she had in mind. Aided by some charming illustrations, we see how she learns to reevaluate her work rather than just giving up. It's a great lesson for all young, aspiring designers! #TheMostMagnificientThing #NetGalley
This book is very cute. Could be a good read for storytime or just at bedtime for kids and parents to read together.
The illustrations are really beautiful especially the colors. As the story unfolds we really want to know what the "magnificent thing" will be or even if she will succeed in making it. I really liked the conclusion but not so much the repetitive pattern of the rest; the girl didn’t seem friendly enough in the beginning. I liked the dog though.
A rather good story, not going to be a favorite.
This is a lovely book for independent readers or to share with less confident readers. I can't wait to use this with my class; I'm sure it will spark their imagination and generate some great ideas!
5 stars
This was the absolute sweetest story! I absolutely loved it. This is a book to share with others. The little girl and her super cute best friend (a pug dog) are adorable.
The writing was good, story fun and there is even a message in the story – of persevering and working through issues.
A must read!
Thank you NetGalley and publisher, Kids Can Press, for the opportunity to read this ARC.
such a cute read for the little ones. it teaches them a good lesson of not giving up. and when things get too tough, you need to relax and maybe talk a walk and then go back to work.
We live in a world where mistakes and failure are not something we give room for. We see everyone's "most magnificent thing" without noticing the work that was done to get there. In "The Most Magnificent Thing," Spires shows how failure isn't a bad thing, but a way to learn from your mistakes. Any child can learn from this book how to work and tweak, and maybe even take a break as a part of the learning process.
This was a well written story and I loved the images.
The characters are great and I loved how the story developed.
A great way to teach children about overcoming frustration without it being too obvious to them.
Four stars from me - highly recommended!
Thanks so much publisher for granting my wish. My daughter saw the beautiful cover for this book and wanted to read it so much . She was not disappointed . We have since read it 5 times . This book has an excellent message for kids, basically it's about persevering and doing what you have to do to achieve goals. The pictures were great. And I love books for kids with messages .
The Most Magnificent Thing was a fun read for my 7 and 10 year old children. The little girl is trying to make the object she sees in her mind and as she works she finds something wrong with each try. Her frustration in not being perfect leads to injury and anger, so much so she quits and walks away. After having sometime to think she realizes each item she made had a perfect part and when all combined she can make the most magnificent thing. This book is a good reminder that being perfect isn’t always right and that taking a step back can help you to see a mistake in a different light.
The illustrations were amazing!
This one is a little gem.
It tells the story of a little girl that - with the assistance of her best friend (namely, her dog companion) - decides to make the most magnificent thing in the world.
The task is set, but the realization is far harder (and frustrating) than she has originally thought and paved with many failures.
But, you know, failure is the root of success. And an occasion to discover what the most magnificent things in your life really are.
The art is superb, and the choice of words makes the readers perceive the increasing, frantic tension the little girl feels.
Moreover, it is a book with a meaningful message for both children and adults. Of course, the most immediate lesson is about the importance to persist and to do not let failures stop you. However, underneath, there's also the invitation to rediscover the value of just taking some time to relax and to be with your friends - listen up, my fellow grow-ups! - regardless of all the pressures surrounding us.
This is an adorable tale of what it means to keep going and persist with a task. Even when you get frustrated and mad, sometimes you just need to step away, take a deep breath, and try again.
This book would be perfect for explaining to children how to deal with emotions such as anger and frustration, especially for those who are perfectionists.
Highly recommended.
This is such a great book about a girl in STEM, who designs and built the invention that she has in mind. It's hard work and she has to try over and over again, making adjustments and bringing new perspectives. Exhausted, her doggy-best-friend-assistant suggests a walk. After a few minutes, here she is, calm and relaxed again, ready to finally create the final version of her Most Magnificent Thing. This book is such a great lesson of perseverance and creativity, I love it! The text is flowing and the illustrations are just what you need to stay connected to the story. I highly recommend it.
The little girl and dog in this story are a wonderful duo! The illustrations accurately capture their expressions of frustration, determination, & joy. This is a witty and sweet story of the happiness you feel after you persevere through frustration and finally find success.
A super cute picture book about a very smart girl. A good picture good to add to your collection if you have young kids.
