For a book that claims to help autistic folks, it's severely outdated and constantly treats autistic people like a maligned other. I don't think the author is malicious or has a bad intent but she should have known better than to include an organization like Autism Speaks or dole out vague advice that do absolutely nothing.
Review to come, I accidentally got this one and didn’t download before archive. Will read and update
Ausome Parenting is an absolute gem for parents of autistic children, providing practical, heartfelt advice that is both insightful and empowering. As a parent of an autistic child, I found this book incredibly validating and helpful in navigating the unique challenges and joys of raising a neurodivergent kid. The strategies are accessible and grounded in real-life experiences, offering positive and compassionate approaches that truly resonate. What stands out is the focus on celebrating individuality and fostering a supportive environment where our children can thrive. It’s a must-read for any parent looking to better understand and support their autistic child.
This is an excellent introduction to ASD. It provides some helpful suggestions to provide the tools to autistic individuals and their family and caregivers to best approach social situations.
If you have been living with autism either having it yourself or being a family member or support person to an autistic individual, there is not really anything new to learn, but the book offers great reminders and points you in the right direction. And we can definitely all use that from time to time!
I definitely recommend if you are newly diagnosed or have a child that has recently been diagnosed.
knowing what autism is the the different level of it. and how is it hard for the family partner and making younger relative to understand why there cousin or sibling is acting the way. i literally cried because i had so many emotions.
As a parent to an autistic child I'm always looking for help from anywhere I can get it, so was intrigued by Ausome Parenting.
It's a good 'beginner's guide', and I really.wish I'd have had a copy a few years ago when certain signs were appearing in my child that they may be neurodiverse. I found a lot of the book very helpful, positive and reassuring.
However my one criticism is perhaps it's TOO positive at times, it felt like it shied away from a few of the difficulties, especially around schooling.
Overall a helpful read, thank you.
Very helpful for parents of children with ASD. I previously read and loved Ausome Connections by this author so of course I wanted to read the other books in her Ausome series. This one is just as good and I recommend reading it first.
The chapters are:
Uncovering the Truth About Autism
Screening Your Child for Autism
Various Health Issues Associated with ASD
Navigating Early Challenges Faced by an Autistic Child
Strategies to Nurture the Growth
Unlocking the Inner Strengths
Building Bridges at School
Managing Transitions and Challenges
The Parent’s Emotional Well-Being
Thriving Together – Siblings and Family Dynamics
Preparing for the Future
Stories of Triumph Inspiring Journeys
I loved this book and found it very helpful. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to understand autism spectrum disorder better. Thanks to the publisher for the audiobook via NetGalley to use for my review.
Some good information mixed with some out of date harmful suggestions. Autism speaks is not a good recommendation
This book had way less detail than I expected and felt more like a pep talk for parents. Some good tips that I expect can be applied to parenting in general. The most interesting part for me was the discussion around sibling relationships.
Generally, I thought much of it was quite outdated. For example, we haven’t used the terms “normal” to describe a child in years. Typically it is neurodivergent versus neurotypical. Likewise, the Autism Speaks organization has been under scrutiny and criticism for years from the autism community yet it was lauded as an extremely positive organization in this book. These outdated viewpoints made me question the validity of much of what was being presented in this book to be honest.
I did appreciate the real life accounts from parents though and found them useful and inspiring.
The narrator had a good cadence and voice articulation.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to listen to this advance audiobook.
This actually surpassed my expectations, neurodivergence is such a hot topic right now and the advice can be so hit and mis, but this one was super validating and gave actual advice that can be applied to child and adults alike all within the ND spectrum. I really appreciate getting the chance to listen to this, I definitely have taken some valuable pieces and really enjoyed the narration. This will be a great resources for many parents.
Thank you NetGalley, Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op, and Natalie Loveson for the access to the Audiobook Ausome Parenting The Guide to Endless Love, Emotional Support, and Acceptance for Your Autistic Child.
What a validating experience it was to listen to Ausome Parenting. Each chapter of Ausome Parenting is clearly outlined, succinct, is an excellent educational tool for those who may be newer to parenting a child with additional needs, or is a great recap for those who may have backgrounds with children with additional needs. Either way, the experience is engaging to listen and a healthy reminder that it takes a village of support. Irinka Reade does a beautiful job with the narration. It was clear, calming, and easy to zone into what Irinka Reade was saying.
As a parent who is going through the developmental assessment process, this book made me feel seen. Natalie Loveson, thank you.
While I do not have a child with autism, I do teach an autism classroom and I felt this book could bring me insight in order to help with my classroom and communicating with the parents in order to develop the best methods to help their children both in school and at home. For me, this book didn’t offer anything new but I believe it would be a great place to start if your child has an autism diagnosis and you’re feeling overwhelmed. There is so much out there on autism and this book takes a good chunk of that and condenses it into one place. I do like that it gave great advice on IEPs and the way parents can help with the process and streamline it as the process is not always easy and it can take time (which is stressful for everyone from the student to their parents or their teacher).
Ausome Parenting

Ausome Parenting is an easy listen, full of good information, audiobook on parenting a child on the autism spectrum. This would be a good place to start if you have a new diagnosis. Loveson begins with an overview of autism, including how to recognize the signs and symptoms in your child. She also includes strategies to help guide your child through some of the difficulties that they may face, as well as how to navigate the school system in order to adequately advocate for your child, and ends with how to take care of yourself as a caregiver.
I personally do not have a child on the autism spectrum, but I do have children with ADHD. Some of her strategies do apply to any neurodivergent child.
I found this book to be full of hope, with useful information to help on your parenting journey.

Such a helpful guide, full of useful advice. A great resource for parents and educators,
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an early review copy.
I will first say that I don’t think this book was geared towards me. I think if you are brand spanking new to autism and need a very general overview of some of the challenges and overall day to day living this would be a good start.
However, as a mom of an amazing autistic kiddo that had already been on this journey for 7 years, I didn’t learn anything new and felt pretty letdown by it.
A lot of the advice given in this book was just a blanket statement without the steps that may go along with the advice which wasn’t very practical.
It was also very repetitive and I definitely didn’t love the many references to the autism speaks organization which has been proven time and time again to be harmful in how they portray autism instead of supporting the autistic person as a whole.

Having a child who was diagnosed with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder (. ASD ) around 7 years ago, I found this audiobook really helpful in reminding me what I've discovered or rathe what my son has taught me through his and my own journey through Autism. I can see that this book would be a great point of reference for any parent who either wants a refresh or as a new parent to Autism.
Natalie did a great job in sectioning the book up into short but very informative chapters without bouncing about with information overload. I found the debunking certain myths and the stories at the end from families really uplifting. It can sometimes be very isolating and lonely as a parent of an autistic child and this helps affirm that you are never alone.
Thank you to Irinka Reade for narrating this book, her voice is lovely to listen to without being monotone.

I am genuinely appreciative of Netgalley and the publisher for granting me the opportunity to access and listen to this audiobook. The audiobook proved to be a valuable and insightful guide for individuals who are navigating the complexities of parenting a child with autism or are in the process of receiving an autism diagnosis for their child. Through a comprehensive approach, it effectively examines the distinct journey of autistic parents and elucidates the stark contrasts between their experiences and those of parents with neurotypical children. Furthermore, it provides a candid exploration of the formidable obstacles associated with nurturing a child with neurodiversity.

This powerful audiobook is filled with so much wisdom, love, and hope that so many new to the spectrum parents need.
As a mother with a child on the spectrum, I had such a deep appreciation for this one. There is so much truth and wealth of knowledge hidden within this book. I know it will be impactful.
The audiobook itself has a wonderful narrator. It is a shorter book that would be easy to listen to while working/cooking/cleaning. 10/10 would recommend.
