This book is sweet and heartwarming. I loved the characters and seeing how they healed from their pasts and grew together. I also enjoyed the side characters and their storylines. The setting is gorgeous. It takes place in a beach town in North Carolina, and it captures that quirky, loveable vibe that I find irresistible. Definitely for the lover of slow burns and behind door romance. O Spice.

In this book Catherine (the author) creates a wonderful setting in a place called Gull Island. What a great little community, with lots of characters to get to know and enjoy. Definitely recommend for those seeking a storyline to escape to and enjoy

I wanted to love this book so badly but I ended up just liking it okay instead. First you have Kate, she wants a fresh start after being laid off from her job, having her marriage end, and also having a miscarriage. Kate is complicated and doesn't have a place to fit in at the moment, keep this in mind because it is important for how the story ends. Then you have Luke, he is a guy who wants to keep his beloved hometown free from greedy development. Okay so one person doesn't have a place to belong and the other person loves their small town, now do you know where this is going? <spoiler> Well, you are wrong because he ends up moving to the city where she works at a job she doesn't seem to like very much, the end. </spoiler>

Now if the ending were the only issue I would not be as harsh as I'm being but there were too many side plots in this book and too many characters that we just meet and don't go anywhere. I know this is the setup for the next book but there were just too many people that we just meet and then nothing happens.

The other problem I had was the pacing, this book was paced really weirdly. The book would be so slow and then you would get a time jump, then it would halt, and then another time jump. At no point did it feel like it was at a comfortable pace. I felt the book was both too long but too short because it covered years.

Last, I had a problem was that the conflict was non existent. Sure, in the preservation effort there is a mustache twirling villain that wants to destroy the island but it is so obvious he is going to lose that it doesn't feel real at all. Then there is a random side plot of some lady trying to get Kate fired but it gets resolved in two pages. Every conflict just gets immediately resolved, nothing felt earned.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a no conflict, low stakes book where you just go for vibes only.

TW: Mention of miscarriage

I loved this slow- burn romance, I was hooked from the start. It was really heartwarming to read. I loved the small town beach setting and the issues which brought everyone together. Kate and Luke’s story was so enticing, it was a really gushy romantic read, perfect for reading on a summer break.

An A+ summer read that will make you want to pack your bags and head to Gull Island yourself. (Or is it just me?)

I was a little apprehensive as second chance tropes are not my favorite but I really enjoyed this! Plus post divorce FMC meets small down MMC makes up for it. With little to no spice, this was a book I'd have no problem recommending to almost anyone for a heartwarming, summer read. Thank you NetGalley!

This was a cute book! Very surface level with some
parts slow and some parts super quick which was difficult at times. I struggle with books based in the south that have characters tell instead of show me how southern they are. Either way, it was a cute book with likeable characters

A beautiful romance story - clean and fun with a classic enemies to lovers trope, with him falling first? Inject it into my veins. This was a lovely read, with great characters you can really connect with. Plus a gorgeous setting!

Sand sea & second chances was a second chance love story but not in the way I thought. I loved watching Kate & Luke meet, then fall in love. I laughed & had some sappy feelings all along the way. The world of Gull island was enchanting. It made me want to go and live there myself. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
**while it is closed door, there are some slight innuendos towards the end**

Loved this story! I felt like I was right on Gull Island with Kate and Luke. I loved these two. They were so perfect for each other. Kate was moving on from her past. A divorce because of a husband who cheated, losing her job, and selling her home. At first she comes to Gull Island a bitter woman but as she learns more about the island and the people she begins to fall in love. Her and Luke do start off with a rocking start but after spending more and more time with each other working on a project and saving the turtles you can see and feel their love grow. It’s so sweet. Most side characters were great except a few and thankfully they don’t take up much of the story. We get our happy ever after! I hope to read more from Gull Island!!

This is a great beach read! A cute love story that was easy to read and had just the right amount of "moments" that made me smile. I enjoy when characters get second chances to get it right......when they find what they have been missing out on!

summary:
This book is about Kate Fiore, a 30-something year old who heads to Gull Island, North Carolina for the summer after a difficult divorce and losing her job. She rents a house from Mae Gray, a local, with the plan to relax, ground herself and work at the local aquarium. But as soon as she arrives, she runs into Luke, a local Islander committed to the community and its environment. While he is initially skeptical of the outsider, Luke finds himself intrigued by Kate’s charm, willingness to learn, and love for the island. Will something happen between them and if so, can it last after the summer?

This book reminded me so much of Elin Hilderbrand’s early books set on Nantucket - just a love story dedicated to the island and its people. Luke and Kate are deeply developed characters, and it’s heartwarming to see their chemistry and dynamics evolve throughout the book. Luke’s relationship with his nephew, Dawson, is also incredibly sweet and adds fun energy to the story. I also loved the angle of Luke’s commitment to the preservation of the island’s environment and sustainability, as you don’t read a lot of romances with this angle! It also paints a beautiful picture of the island itself, and uses great sensory imagery and language to really make you feel like you’re there. The story is broken down by month, which really emphasizes the summer vibe, and alternates POV’s between Luke and Kate. The only downside is it is definitely a slow plot - there aren’t many twists and turns and everything is very predictable. But if you’re looking for a reliable summer read with a happy ending, this book is absolutely for you.
