I really enjoyed this devotional. It begins around Thanksgiving and goes through the first week in January (through Epiphany) The devotional starts with a sense-based task, followed by a Bible verse, reading and questions to answer/reflect on. Each daily devotional ends with a prayer and thought to take you through the day. I loved the reflections it brought me and I especially loved the daily prayers. I plan to go the prayers throughout the year and go through these devotions again during the 2025 holiday season.
I highly recommend this devotional to help you prepare for the season of Advent.
Sense of Wonder is not your usual Advent devotional, it's much more. It goes from Thanksgiving to New Years. As what Our Daily Bread does so well, it starts with scripture. It has a devotion each day with a prayer. What makes it different from others like it is that it has a reflection with the devotion to write your thoughts.
I received a complimentary copy of this book thanks to publisher and Netgalley, all opinions are my own.
Sense of Wonder was a wonderful reminder to draw closer to God this Christmas season. With childlike awe we can remember the true meaning of Merry Christmas with practical suggestions and ideas to implement with your family. This book would be a perfect addition to your Christmas bookshelf every year. I give this book 4 stars.
i am still reading this daily,m but am enjoying all the devotions for this holiday season. it helps keep everything in perspective and a reminder of why we celebrate christmas.
The holidays are truly my favorite time of year, and the book enhanced my love for the season even more. It was well-curated and included multiple prompts and activities to encourage reflection and bring more awe and wonder to an often busy, stressful season.
Sense of Wonder, Delighting in God's Presence throughout the Holiday Season by Hannah Opliger and Amanda Luedeke is one differently excellent Avent and beyond reading devotional journey for the season. It includes devotionals that touch on the six senses, yes six. A new one titled self-awareness, explained in the introduction, is also included. Along with a scripture and thoughts there are activities suggested, question prompts and ideas to make Christ the center of your holiday celebrations. The Bible passages are not necessarily from the Gospels but include Old Testament readings too, as well as from Paul’s letters written to the churches.
I especially like that it does not stop on Christmas Day but continues into the New Year. It is the kind of book that could be used year after year since your perspective, season of life may change over the course of a year.
This is such an interesting devotional! It encourages using the senses to engage with God during the holiday season! There's scripture verses, questions, applications, and prayers. I'm going to re-read it starting at Thanksgiving! I look forward to embracing the real meaning behind the holidays!
I was provided a complimentary copy of the book from Our Daily Bread Publishing via Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was a good book for the holidays! I enjoyed it and can’t wait to have it on my shelf.i had never read anything by these authors, but they really did a great job.
Loved this! Each day, from Thanksgiving through the New Year, has a similar set up. They begin by giving you a sense-based task. Then, there is a Bible verse and a reading with questions that you should answer. Each one ends with a prayer and a summary or thought to take from the day’s reading. I cannot wait to go back through these devotions in the upcoming holiday season!
