Wow! Absolutely loved this book! Fast paced and entertaining you will stay up racing to the end! Great job DK Hood!
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and author this eARC.
I am really enjoying this series - I like Beth Katz and Styles and the authors descriptions of the landscape and small communities are very good. Forgotten Girls is a good and engaging read although compared to the previous books in this series I felt it lacked the edginess and thrills that I'm used to from this author. Here Katz and Styles investigate a case where Styles has a personal connection to a victim - can he remain objective? Previous characters make an appearance and I liked seeing two of them feature more in the story. Beth is less aloof and more open with Styles - she knows he has her back even when their actions are not strictly by the book. She almost seems to appear vulnerable which isn't how I see her. Will she be able to keep her dark side hidden though? I enjoyed this read, I like the authors writing style and descriptions of her characters and they become alive in my mind when reading. The plot is good and all to believeable today and thankfully sensitive issues are dealt with carefully and without too much detail. I'd have liked to see more of Beth's dark side though. I also felt the ending seemed abrupt and a little rushed. Saying that though, I'll want to read the next book, I like how Beth and Styles characters are developing and this series has certainly piqued my interest and I want to see what DK Hood has in store for them next! I'd recommend this book and would say read the series from the beginning to get to know the characters from the start.
3.5 stars
Thanks to netgalley for allowing me to read this beyond amazing book. The 4th in the Detective Beth Katz series. Each one just gets better and better and like the first three I just couldn't put it down! Beth and Styles are the perfect double act. Bring on Book five!! Worth way more than 5 stars!
I have read all of the Beth Katz series and i have to say I really enjoyed this one.
Beth uncovers what has happened to her colleagues missing sister by doing this she has uncovered a nasty pedophile ring which brings out the good and bad in her.
This case brings memories for Beth has she has been exposed to abuse it also brings out how much she cares for her colleague and the loveable Bear. Thankyou for advanced copy.
Yet another excellent read from one of my favourite authors! Special Agent Beth Katz is investigating a human trafficking ring with her partner Dax Styles. yet again, the developing characterisation is great and the new characters are certainly interesting! There is plenty of action and suspense, as we have come to expect but the book is still as fresh and exciting as the first in the series, one I can highly recommend. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review "Forgotten Girls", the fourth book in D.K. Hood's 'Special Agent Beth Katz' series (which NetGalley mistakenly labels 'Detective' Beth Katz).
Beth Katz is an FBI agent with a dark history and an even darker secret. In this instalment, Beth and her partner Dax Styles finally solve the mystery of that happened to Dax's little sister all those years ago, when she disappeared while on an outing with her little brother. But the solution to that mystery takes them into the dark territory of human trafficking and underground, illegal adoptions for nefarious purposes, and the extremes to which the perpetrators go to protect themselves and control their captives.
And when a local girl goes missing under circumstances similar to Ginny Katz and many others, the team are determined to use any means necessary to break up this gang.
Zeroing in on the ringleaders puts both Beth and Dax squarely in the crosshairs of criminals who will stop at nothing to continue their criminal enterprise, which leads to multiple assassination attempts - all, thankfully, foiled (lots of action in this one!).
As their efforts progress, they rely heavily on the additional assistance of Jo Wells, Ty Carter and Bobby Kalo from a neighbouring FBI outpost - and whom dedicated readers of D.K. Hood's other series will know well - in unravelling the cabal.
You won't want to miss this one.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a great thriller and I love the characters in this series! I definitely need more books with these characters and soon!
This series is growing on me as is Detective Beth Katz. Fast moving and intriguing the race is on to catch a killer.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.
DBI agents Beth and Styles are a good team. When Beth manages to trace the whereabouts of Styles’ sister, who has been missing since childhood, they stumble upon a child abuse/exploitation ring. Beth uses her cyber skills to try to get to the bottom of it and find the ringleaders, but they are always one step ahead. Carter and Jo are called in and the team investigates.
Oh my goodness DK Hood take a bow. Another completely addictive thriller. I love these characters. Beth’s wrestle with her conscious and bad side and now the introduction of Styles not following the straight path was fab. So many twists and turns in this. I couldn’t put it down at all. I also love the crossover with characters from the author’s other series. Thoroughly enjoyed this and highly recommend.
Beth Katz finally finds a lead on Styles' missing sister and as a result, they uncover a dangerous and powerful human trafficking ring.
Once again we have a story full of action, suspense and twists that keeps you captivated on every page. Of course not only the plot is fantastic but the characters are one of the most important assets. I love the character of Beth Katz, full of dark areas that give her depth but in general, Styles, Ryder, Wolf... all of them are characters that develop and grow throughout the books.
In this installment it seems that the bond with Styles is strengthening and the affection between them is growing. Beth begins to feel that she has friends and people to trust within the group and even considers revealing her secret to one of them.
To say I enjoyed it is an understatement. Totally recommended and waiting for the fifth one.
Oh, what a brilliant read.
I absolutely love this author’s work, so as soon as I received this it jumped straight to the top of my TBR pile.
It's all very personal this time, as with Beth’s help, Styles has found his sister who went missing when they were young children. You are immediately immersed in the horrifyingly brilliant plot that twists and turns as those with too much to lose will do anything to stop them. Again, nice to have the crossover of characters from the Jane and Alton series, especially the tension that Beth feels around Jo as she fears her alter ego will be uncovered.
There is also nice character development as we begin to see a softer side to Beth and her relationship with Styles.
As usual the author blows it out if the water, I genuinely did not put the book down.
This series has so much more to give and I can't wait to read it.
People say favoritism is not a good thing, but hey I am only human. So I cannot help myself and I just have to repeat once more this author is on top of my list.
Each and every time she regales me with an excellent story that often makes me shudder. I know it's fiction, but those things also happen in the real world. Fortunately the fictional victims can count on Beth, Dax and other recurring characters to come to the rescue. They will fight tooth and nail until they have uncovered every little detail and put a stop to the culprit(s).
The world could have stopped turning and I would not have noticed it. That's how deep I was engrossed in the book.
The story, the characters, the writing style are all top notch. I like the way Beth and Dax think and although I know it's not the political correct way it's often the only way to make it all go away once and for all.
Addictive is the least I can say. Loved it. 5 stars
Thank you
FBI Agent Dax has been looking for his sister who disappeared years ago. When he finally finds her she is smack dab in the middle of a child trafficking ring. She is convinced her abductor is a good man and refuses to turn on him. The hunt for the traffickers takes a path thru the dark web with international connections. Full of suspense and twists this will keep you turning the pages. This book is part of a series but could be read a stand alone. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
Special Agent Beth Katz and partner Dax Styles are investigating the disappearance of Dax Styles's sister, Ginny.
Beth followed a lead and Ginny is found, but is very loyal to her kidnapper.
A network of pedophiles is discovered, human trafficking, and Beth and Dax have to get to the top of the chain to break up the network.
Another great story by DK Hood. Beth is a strong character, and a team player. She gives her all to the job in hand, and a little extra ..... she makes the bad guys pay in her own special way.
I recommend. I can't say enough about this series, this had me gripped from the first chapter.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.
