Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an ARC of this story.
This was a cool story! I'd seen Sane and Hannah on Tiktok before but I didn't realize that this was there book because I couldn't remember their names. I'd been given access to it because I'm part of the influencer program for Macmillan Publishing. Nonfiction books aren't really my thing but the way this novel was written was so heartfelt and personal that I really enjoyed it. I loved hearing stories about Shane and Hannah and other people with disabilities. It was really eye opening to the kinds of struggles people face daily that you don't normally think of. I enjoyed being able to have a look at these peoples lives as well as insight into Shane and Hannah's dynamic. It was a feel good novel that I'd recommend!
This was such an eye-opening read! I've been following Squirmy and Grubs on Youtube for a while and I'm so glad they decided to write and publish this book. INTERABLED is filled with Shane and Hannah Burcaw's own stories as well as many other interabled couples' stories. Through this book, Shane and Hannah explore questions that people have about interabled relationships, from the well-meaning to the invasive. They raise awareness to the discrimination Shane faces on a daily basis and how hard it can be to keep going when all the comments are so inappropriately hateful. They bring up questions of caregiver vs. significant other vs. both and how difficult it can be to separate or merge those roles. I've learned so much from Shane, Hannah, and all of the other couples in this book and would definitely recommend it to anyone who can get their hands on it. This book is truly a life lesson people need to learn.
A very unique and interesting look at a relationship not everyone would have insight to! I appreciated the candor and how I learned a lot from each perspective.
I've been a subscriber to Shane and Hannah's Youtube channel for years now and have been anxiously awaiting this book. I really liked that the format of the conversations with the couples were not all the exact same (some q&a style, interview style, prose, etc), and also the sprinkling of chapters on themselves as well. This really helped keep me engaged so the book didn't become monotonous. Instead it was always something new, something different, which kept it fun and interesting!
I love Squirmy nd Grubs and am so glad they share their highs and lows with the public. In this lovely book they also share other interacted couples stories to continue putting a face on disability in the mainstream. Plus, Shane and Hannah are really funny, so the writing is just plain fun to read. I admire how they can put such. A humorous spin on tough parts of their lives and love seeing such a caring, interdependent love story! I highly recommend this book for all libraries.
This was so good! Interabled is a collection of stories from couples where one or more of them is disabled. It's funny, insightful, sweet, and a book I hope will be read widely. The authors are YouTubers Squirmy & Grubs, and they intersperse their own stories with those of a bunch of other couples. Queer couples, interracial couples...it's really a wide range of kinds of people and disabilities.
I feel like I learned a lot reading this, but it was also just a delightful read broken up into short, easily digestible chapters. You hear funny stories and romantic stories, but also about the constant ableism and microaggressions they experience. A lot of which is truly horrifying. They talk openly about lack of accessibility in many spaces including air travel for people who require electric wheelchairs and how difficult it is. But also it's about the assumption that a disabled partner is a burden and can't be romantic. Which clearly is not the case! Highly recommend picking this up. I received a copy of this book for review via NetGalley, all opinions are my own.
Thank you Shane and Hannah Burcaw for the Advanced Readers Copy of Interabled.
As someone who also moves through the world with a mild physical disability I found the stories very uplifting and positive. It actually restored some faith in humanity that good people still exists in this crazy world. Many stories were witty and laugh out loud funny. Thank you to all the couples were were open and candid about their lives and relationships. I walked away with a new hope and light in my life.
