Probably the two corny things I love the most are quirky fictional small towns and a series of stand-alone romances with character crossovers, and Get Lost With You has both! Unfortunately, I felt that a lot of this book did not do either of those loves justice this time around.
In theory, Jilly and Levi's relationship should have been really sweet and easy to root for, but they got together so easily and so quickly that there wasn't much to anticipate. Over half of the book was them just being in the happy honeymoon phase of a new relationship, which wasn't particularly interesting. I think I got cavities from how over-the-top candy sweet everything was. When I read romance, I'm looking for tension and anticipation and something the characters have to work for, and this wasn't it. The most interesting part of the book was the last ~1/3 or so, when there was actual conflict. Sadly, it was all resolved really quickly, and then the last few chapters felt like the author was squeezing in multiple endings because she couldn't pick just one.
I think this story had a lot of promise, and because of the parts I enjoyed I gave this 3 stars, but there was just too much that was bland and hard to get through. I still enjoy Sophie Sullivan and hope to see a redemption for Smile and Get Lost in her next book!
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!
Overall, this was a sweet second chance story! My favorite character was the FMC’s nine-year-old daughter. She was funny, and sassy, but not in a disrespectful way!
I appreciated the closeness of the family, and how they were happy to include others into the family. I was pretty concerned with what would happen when Jillian met up with her ex-husband, and I thought he was going to ruin everything. I truly loved what Jillian said to him. I think that was my favorite part of the book!
This was a pretty quick and easy read, and an entertaining story!!
This one fell a little flat for me. First of all, please use Jill and not Jilly. That irked my last nerve, she's not 5 years old. Second, there was this enormous build up to the sex and so much description of the foreplay but none of the actual sex..sorry, just felt disappointing at that point after all the build up. A lot of really good potential in the characters and their friends/family. I liked the main guy's relationship building with his father.
Get Lost With You is the book version of a cozy Hallmark movie! Jilly & Levi's story is sweet, romantic, and sure to appeal to cozy romance readers. This book is sweet rather than spicy, and features an adorable second chance romance between a single mom and her brother's best friend. If you enjoy any of these tropes, you will love Get Lost With You!
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the arc!
Jillian Keller has found herself back in her hometown of Smile, trying to piece her life back together after her divorce. What she doesn't expect is the return of her high school crush, Levi Bright. The sparks begin to fly as they realize they've always been in love. Life however is much more complicated than it was when they were teenagers. Jillian wants to protect her daughter from becoming attached to Levi who she thinks might not stay in Smile. Levi on the other hand is trying to reconnect with his dad who was never happy with Levi's decision to pursue a career as a chef. This was a cute and fun read though I wish I had been able to connect more with Jillian and Levi's relationship. It fell a bit flat at times for me, but was still overall an enjoyable read.
This is the second in the series but can be read standalone. I vaguely remember the first but know I really loved it, and enjoyed getting reacquainted with the characters. Levi is back in town and is so excited to reconnect with Jilly, especially at Get Lost Lodge. They both had crushes as kids and it’s time they explored what it could have been!
This was a really fun, charming, banter-filled romance—I loved the chemistry and banter between the two characters! Sophie Sullivan writing style has always wonderstruck me. This one will leave you with the warm and fuzzies.
A special thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for a ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The good news about Get Lost with You (I guess) is that it's about as clean as it gets, so if you want your romance without intimate scenes, this will scratch that itch. Eh, that's about it. This book is dull. Jilly and Levi are in love with each other from the beginning of the book, so there really isn't a love story that happens throughout the book that the reader gets to be a part of. There's more angst between Jilly and her ex-husband and Levi and his dad than there is between the pair, and both of the situations get resolved in an incredibly underwhelming way. Also, I found Jilly completely annoying. I really hate books where there's a single parent and the parent tends to display the same level of maturity as their child. Obviously, Jilly isn't throwing a temper tantrum because she doesn't like her bedtime, but she spends sooo much time agonizing over her relationship with Levi and needing reassurance from him that he cares about her. She avoids her ex for weeks instead of just dealing it. And she has a complete meltdown after finally meeting him, then finding out her parents want to sell their house that she decides to break up with Levi even though he had nothing to do with the things she's upset about. The book goes around and around Jilly and Levi being moony over each other and doing things at the family owned resort/meeting space. I found myself wondering how many chapters were left when the same things would happen all over again, but just in a slightly different way. If you want a Hallmark-esque story where there's little to no conflict on a picture-perfect small town island community, by all means pick up this book. I prefer something more interesting. A complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I received this ARC from NetGalley and St. Martin's Press Early Reviewer Program in exchange for an honest review.
Everybody is currently buzzing about Sullivan's Can't Help Falling In Love, and I have to be honest, I couldn't get through that one. I had already accepted this ARC before I tried to read her other release, and I was worried about how this would go. There was a bit of a lull around 25% of the way in, which was the same reason I DNF'ed CHFIL, so I wonder if this is common in Sullivan's books. In this book, the lull happened because there wasn't really the sexual tension that had been building, but the characters weren't really together either. I don't know how to describe it, but the story had stalled out a bit. Fortunately, I stuck with it to give a fair review, and I am honestly really glad that I did!
This story has a lot of familiar tropes: small town (very Gilmore Girls vibe; there's even what I would consider a clear nod to Gilmore Girls in the book!), single mom, brother's best friend, third-act breakup, and a grand gesture! I thought these all worked really well together, and the story was comforting. This one is scheduled to be released just before Valentine's Day (Feb 11, 2025). Get Lost With You is so versatile - it will be great in February, June, October, and every month in between.
Absolutely fantastic plot! Could not put the book down once I began reading it. Cannot wait for it to be released. I will recommend it to everyone I know!
Simple, quick second chance romance.
Found this to be endearing but relatively unoriginal. While I enjoyed the small town aspect and their falling back into routine with each other, the reasonings behind why they weren't together this whole time was shaky at best.
But if you're in the mood for a cute hallmark type read, this is it.
This book was cozy and fun! Great relatable characters who felt realistic! I felt a connect with the main character! Levi felt like he felt genuinely cared for Jillian. I also liked the family aspect! The caretaker role Jillian has was important I loved the small town setting of Smile.
This book seems like a very cozy read, with small town, second chance romance tropes and a nostalgic setting. Unfortunately, I personally did not enjoy this book. It felt very surface level, moved too quickly with nothing really happening, and overall, I was very bored while reading. The characters felt younger than they were supposed to be, which led to weird vibes for me. I also found the insta love off putting. I think the fun of a second chance romance is watching the characters grow, and this has none of that at all. I had to take several breaks from this book to try to get through it, which is also not usually a great sign for me.
Here's the thing, I had zero idea this was second in a series. That's the main issue when you obtain books via NetGalley. If the book description isn't posted somewhere, it's hard to tell if it's a series. So I was lost for a good portion of this book when characters and events were referenced that I, the readers should know about. That said. I thought this was a very solid romance. I liked it because there was no easy answer to the things that Jillian and Levi were dealing with. But, I thought that there was a huge plot hole left open due to Jillian's past that I would have loved to see addressed, and I didn't really believe the 11th hour change up with Levi's father.
"Get Lost With You" is the second book in Sullivan's "Rock Bottom Love" series. This book follows divorced single mother, Jillian Keller. Jillian returned to work at her parent's lodge after her divorce and the actions of her ex had her returning to Smile. Jillian has been single for years and has no intention of getting involved with someone again, until her childhood crush Levi Bright returns. Levi returns to help his father's struggling business, but also to start a business in the food industry he knows and loves. Jillian fights against her attraction to Levi, and Levi goes full steam ahead for Jillian.
The characters of Jillian and Levi work and I like that they were actually doing well with communicating with each other for 3/4 of the book. There's a random change-up that didn't even make sense that I had a hard time believing. And Jillian's reactions to her parents needs/dreams didn't ring true for someone her age at all. I won't lie, that got on my nerves after a while. And Levi's family was a mess that I didn't think was ever really addressed in the book.
The book is also setting up one of the brothers to be the focus on the next novel in this series, which was fine.
The ending, there's a definite HEA, but at times it felt a bit rushed.
A super sweet story that makes me want to read others in the series. The pacing felt a little slow at times and it fell pray to the '3rd act break up trope', but overall I really enjoyed my time with Jillian and Levi.
Such an excellent romance and continuation of this series. I loved it!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this arc in exchange for an honest review!
Jillian is back in her hometown with her daughter Ollie, after a divorce that made it hard for her to trust. Levi spent great years as a chef and now with his father having surgery, he came home to be with family. Jillian and Levi had a crush on each other in high school and this was a chance to see where their friendship could go. Jullian’s brother was owner of the Get Lost lodge where the entire family helped. When Jullian planned a retreat, Levi was the chef and made all the dishes special. He immediately took to Ollie as she enjoyed helping him. I loved the small town of Smile where everyone’s business sped like wildfire. The retreats were fun, and I enjoyed the creativity of the activities. Julian's family was so supported. Great story of the importance of family and supporting one another.
Very cute love story!!! I loved the setting so much and the strong family love surrounding the main characters. I also loved the relationship that developed between Levi and Ollie. It was so wholesome and adorable!
Highly recommend this book!
Jillian has been back in her hometown with her daughter for 4 years, when Levi also arrives back in town. Jillian has had her heartbroken and Levi (her brothers’ friend) has achieved his biggest chef dreams and wants to settle down. Their teenage crush flames are immediately fanned and they waste no time spending time together. While I’m happy the author didn’t create too much tension between the brothers and their friend for his interest in their sister (seriously - grown women can decide for themselves), this story lacked tension overall. Until it’s clumsily built up just to create the third act breakup. Why do authors do this? There was a much better option with the ex-husband than with the new love interest for the 3rd act drama. While the characters were sweet and clearly enamoured with each other, the story felt kind of flat. The town is your standard cutesy small town with everyone up in each other’s business and for that, I’ll give it an additional half star.
3 stars overall for Jillian and Levi.
Star Rating: 3.5/5
Spicy Factor: 2/5
Hallmark season, my favorite season, is fast approaching and this read fits right in. It definitely gives the small town warm fuzzies and it's almost, but not quite, a second chance romance. This is my first book by Sophie Sullivan and I was so excited to be chosen to receive an ARC.
Jilly and Levi are childhood friends who have both returned to their childhood homes after some time away. Jilly is returning after a messy divorce and with her daughter. Levi is returning after giving up a successful career as a chef at an esteemed restaurant and learning that he yearned to be closer to family. Jilly has always had a crush on Levi, but he is her older brothers' best friend and has always been off limits and unattainable to her. After running into each other shortly after Levi returns to town, the sparks fly and Jilly soon learns that her feelings were very much mutual. Despite this, Jilly is initially hesitant because of her experience with her ex-husband. She is reluctant to enter ANY relationship despite the very real feelings that she and Levi have for one another.
I have to admit, the book was very slow in the middle, which led to my lower rating. Jilly continuously doubting Levi's feelings for her didn't make much sense because Levi couldn't have been more transparent about how he was feeling. Also, her somehow correlating his slight change in his career path to his intentions towards her didn't translate for me. People don't change partners like they change jobs. Could you imagine?!
I thought the drama would increase once we were introduced to the ex-husband, but it was pretty anticlimactic as well. Since he seemed to be the reason behind all of her internal angst, I truly expected there to be more conflict before the resolution. I guess I'm just the kinda girl who likes a little more strife before the HEA. I definitely will be trying again with another one of her books because I enjoy her writing style. This book just didn't hit the spot for me.
