This one had a mystery in the story itself that lured me to it. As you enter in it with the characters Christopher and Rebecca you learn there is also secrets that need tending to also. The drama that unfolds in this will pull on the emotions with you curling your toes at times. Add murder to it too this one is perfect to feed if you like intrigue. This is also sneaky that it wraps you up with the two as the quest for answers with the romance that builds unfolds.

Self-made shipping magnate Christopher Black first spies Rebecca Bailey at a masquerade ball and is captivated by her refreshing naiveté and sparkling beauty. She's a stark contrast to the hollow behaviour of the ton and the guile of his former fiancée. Rebecca is drawn to the charismatic Christopher from the first, but she cannot risk him discovering that she is really a housemaid impersonating an heiress. Her father's life depends on it. When Christopher's investigation of the murder of his best friend Nathan leads him straight to Rebecca, he fears his ingénue may be a femme fatale in disguise.
This is the first book I’ve read by the author & certainly won’t be the last. I found it a little slow to begin with & was wondering if it would hold my interest, then the pace lifted & I found myself totally absorbed in the story. The characters also grew on me, again to begin with they were OK but the further I read the more I liked Christopher & Rebecca & I loved Stanley (please let him have his HEA). The attraction between Christopher & Rebecca sizzled & each thought they were wrong for the other. I thoroughly enjoyed this captivating read.

My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

First time author for me and I was impressed with the writing and storyline. This was a fast-paced historical suspense romance and I can't wait to read more

I received a copy from Netgalley and I am voluntarily leaving my own honest opinion

Once Upon a Masquerade by Tamara Hughes is the story of Christopher Black and Rebecca Bailey.
Fell in love with both characters! They were both great and this story had a little bit of everything! It has the hint of a Cinderella story with the grand love but also had some suspense in it to keep you on your toes. Once you started reading their story you didn't want to put it down until it was finished.
Loved it!
