A great gothic novel that begins with the discovery of a teenager named Fraser, found dead with a poem inscribed on his flesh. Martha, who finds his body, becomes a central figure in the story. As well as Blacklaw, a location that features a moondial with a dark past in witch burning. A year before Fraser's death, Martha's son Dougie, along with Fraser and Christie, performed a ritual at the moondial. Now Christie goes missing. Will Marta’s son be next?
Crow Moon draws you in slowly but dont be fooled as the pace picks up very quickly in this atmospheric , twists and turns with a goithic theme.
The book has it all: witch trials, murder, missing teens , folklore and creepy characters.
The full moon is fast approaching and the tension mounts as one teen is dead, another is missing and the town is full of suspects.
Martha Strangeway a former reporter inadvertly comes across the body of a missing teen and she does what she does best: investigates.
Along with DI Derek Summers they share information and what a team these two make.
I was looking over my shoulder, locking the doors as the crows fly.
Suzy Aspley has done an amazing job of making the reader feel they are right there in the midst of the chaos. I cant wait to see where Suzy takes us next,
I cleverly followed the clues, got some aspects right not all but I will give no more clues.
Crow Moon is a must read and I am guessing a Book Club choice for many.
Thanks to NetGalley and Independent Publishers/Orenda Books for the privilege of reading and reviewing this spectactular debut.
This was an interesting atmospheric read! Probably more suited for a winter dark day than the 4th and 5th of July. She made is to easy to picture the setting, I really an enjoyed her characters and the core mysteries. Will definitely be looking for book 2!
