Drew is a police officer working hard on a case looking for a serial killer and he has no time to deal with the new rookie cop Nia. Nia is first responder turned to cop and landed herself right into the case that she had first hand in as a first responder to one of the victims. With fresh new eyes looking at the case and the clues as they come forward Nia proves herself but it's clear when the two are getting closer to the perpetrator clearly that person doesn't want to be found and finds the tables are slowly turning to them when familiar clues start popping up towards them.
I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was interesting how Nia started working as a first responder so she has that kind of inside thing going on where she's kind of close to the case so feels compelled to really work on finding the Killer. And I love seeing how Nia and Drew work together. Drew was kind of set in his ways Nia seemed to be the right choice in giving a fresh new look with things coming up with her own ideas where others may have overlooked because experience may have just made them bypass it or not the close enough and it was just interesting to watch. Then there was a family drama when it comes to Nia and her while child of a sister and then looking further into their relationship it was interesting to see as well. As for the connection between the two I love that it didn't overpower the book it was a good mystery they were in the middle of a case to solve and it wasn't heavy on romance which I appreciate. Overall this was a pretty good book I really enjoyed it.
This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the fourth book in the West Coast Story series. I have not read the first three books in this series before picking up this book, but I do think you can read this book as a standalone. This book had me pulled into the story from the beginning, and I found the case that the main characters were trying to solve had me wanting to keep reading. I really enjoyed reading this book and getting to know the characters. I loved all the action, suspense, and drama that was in this book. The romance I felt was just not the best. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.
Hometown Homicide by Denise N Wheatley is a romantic mystery/thriller. I didn't realize it was part of a series and didn't feel like I missed out on anything by not having read the other books. This was my first book by Denise and would read more of her books.
The opening scene grabs you. I think you will be surprised at the dept of the mystery thriller from Harlequin.
Nia is a rookie cop who ends up partnered with a seasoned cop just promoted to detective. He is supposed to mentor her and he is not thrilled about it at all. I enjoyed how she handled the situations and her skills that had her holding her own with Drew.
The author also did a great job of showing that it takes a lot of work and attention to detail to solve these crimes. It doesn't always happen in 48 hours.
I enjoyed both characters and their chemistry and their attempts at avoiding it.
This open door romance had a heat level of 2. and mild profanity throughout.
Violence - women are killed/serial killer, the women are found bound, gagged and their throats slit.
A novice detective is partnered with a highly decorated cop to solve the murder of two women. She wants to solve the crime, he doesn’t want her getting in his way. A police procedural romance that puts the heroine on a more equal footing with the hero than most other books in the genre. Nice sizzle!
Hometown Homicide is a well written romantic suspense. I enjoyed the edge of your seat page turning plot. If you enjoy romantic suspense you do not want to miss this book. I received an advance ebook from the publisher and Netgalley. This is my unbiased review.
There is a killer on the loose who is murdering women in town and it is up to the Hero to put a stop to it so you can guess he has his hands full and doesn’t have time to mentor a rookie (aka heroine) but when her sister gets kidnapped things suddenly becomes personal and sparks begin to fly. They are racing against time to stop this killer before he murders anyone else and falling for each other.
Great suspense and likable characters!
What a page-turner! Someone is out to hurt women in Juniper, Colorado and it will be up to Nia Brooks, a rookie cop, and Drew Taylor, a veteran officer, to stop the person before more women die. The problem is that Drew isn't interested in mentoring a rookie, much less one as intelligent and beautiful as Nia Brooks. None of that matters to Nia when she's given the chance to find a killer that she thinks is the one who spurred her to go from 911 operator to walking the beat.
Drew and Nia don't have much to go on, but with tenacity and determination, they find the next foothold and claw themselves further up the cliff toward the killer to stop him. Whoever the killer is, he knows Nia and exactly what buttons to push to keep her chewed up about the case and out for his blood before he spills another woman's.
Hometown Homicide was a fun, fast-paced romp through a killing spree that, at first, has no rhyme or reason. Then, Ms. Wheatley starts unraveling the edges for the reader to tug at until the killer and his reasons are revealed. It's a solid 5-star Intrigue read!
Can a rookie help a veteran cop catch a diabolical killer?! Great read! I definitely enjoyed reading this one! This book had good suspense, intriguing, murder, mystery, a good who done it and some crazy twists and turns! The story was very interesting and kept me glued to my kindle! I definitely recommend reading this book! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
