Phee’s mother and friends are at it again, always involving Phee in their escapades, no matter how Phee complains and refuses she always caves when her mother calls. When rumors about changes happening in their retirement community, things got heated and out of control when one of the men responsible for said changes ended up dead, Phee could not keep her mom and the rest of the book club members away from the investigation. It wasn’t too exciting and its intrigue level was low. This was an entertaining read, with no heart-pumping, or gasping moments.
Sophie "Phee" Kimball is involved in another murder. She is trying to keep her mother and her friends out of the fray and stop them from stirring up more trouble. That is asking alot! Her mother and posse love to bowl and watch their friends bowl. All of a sudden the retirees are hearing that their beloved bowling alley is going to be made into something awful. They are up in arms and then murders happen, yes plural. Phee is beside herself trying to keep her Mom and the others corralled. Fun and very entertaining. Phee has her hands full with all the quirky retirees. This book make you giggle at the extremes and gives you a nice relaxing escape. It is easy to read and the characters are a hoot.
3.5 rounded to 4
Phee is an accountant by day and an amateur detective by night. Her nosy mom and her retired friends often help or hinder with investigations, depending on your perspective. And when a dead body turns up in the Sun West City's bowling alley, the whole town gets involved.
A side quest involves a senior who may be a cyber scam victim. I found this story realistic and wish I had a Rolo in my pocket to call on when I need help.
This book is cozy. It's a quick read and fun. The writing is also clever. I laughed out loud a few times!
I also like the variety of characters. They're "normal," quirky, and a mix of all kinds of personalities.
One thing I didn't like is the frequent brand name references. I felt like I was reading an advertisement, and that was annoying and distracting.
I just love this series! It is one of my favorite by far. I really like how the book revolves around the different clubs the community offers. It helps to paint such a great picture of a vibrant community.
Thank you for letting me read this book, NetGalley and Beyond the Page.
This is another great Sophie Kimball mystery. In fact it is one was the zaniest yet with lizards, itching powder, a cyber scamming sweetheart, and the neurotic chiweenie Steedman. Each and every one of the Sophie Kimball mysteries is a stand-alone and they just keep getting better and better. Phee works as the bookkeeper for Williams Investigations with her investigator husband Marshall and boss Nate. All three of them relocated from the icy tundra of Minnesota, with Nate being the first to make the change in latitude. I don’t want to give too much background away because it is such a fun story line that I would not do it credit. What I can say is that it all started with Phee going out to Arizona to help her mom who tends to exaggerate the severity of a situation and she always seems to get Phee into the middle all kinds of crazy. This time it involves a development company with plans to update the local bowling alley to make it hip and fun for the younger crowd. Seems like a funny thing to do since the bowling alley is located in a retirement community. Orlando Fleish is the victim which is ironic because he was involved with a scam that involved convincing people to sell their homes and move to a life-care community, turning them into victims. Small spoiler, the adventures that Phee gets involved in because of her mom somehow end up intertwined with the crimes that boss Nate, and husband Marshall are either hired to solve or are retained by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. The clues are many, the misdirection misdirects, and the hijinks are hilarious.
Princess Fuzzypants here: If you like your cozies filled with seniors who get up to all sorts of high jinx, this one could be for you. Phee and her long suffering husband and business associates all must deal with Phee’s mother and her friends. Between the Book Club and the Pinochle Club, there is the nucleus of the shenanigans. And those are only two of the various clubs around their seniors community. This time the bowlers take front and centre. Chaos ensues.
A developer wants to turn their beloved community centre into a modern wonder that will attract, horrors of horrors, a younger crowd. This must not pass. The seniors are determined to stop this travesty but killing two developers might be taking it a bit too far. Naturally Phee and co are knee deep as they do the jobs of the two local detectives, under an advisory capacity. At the same time, one of the ladies in the book club is being wooed on line. Almost everybody but Gloria, the mark, and Phee’s mother, know this is a scam. So while she is trying to track down a murderer she is also trying to stop someone from getting fleeced. It is all highly entertaining but there was a section where I started to giggle out loud.
There is a tournament at the bowling alley and Phee’s nemesis, Streeter escapes his chains and sets about turning everything into a disaster course. Streeter is doggie miscreant but it is a very funny bit. I think this was my favourite book of the series and gets a strike! Five purrs and two paws up.
This was a fun new cozy mystery series for me. I did not feel like I was lost in the story in the way the author wrote her characters. I will be going back and reading the rest of the series. A received a copy through Netgalley. A review was not required.
Thank you NetGalley and Beyond the Page Publishing for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Pinned 4 Murder is the thirteenth in the Sophie Kimball Mystery series. Once again, there is a mystery to be investigated by Phee, the main character. The crazy, funny and wild characters that make up the series are back to make us laugh and have a good time. The mystery is well written and interesting, not to mention that there is never a boring moment. Phee's mother is outrageously funny, you never know what she will come up with next. This book is sure to make you smile and lift your spirit.
Fun murder cozy. Not having read the previous books I didn't feel lost at all and enjoyed the story. Good characters, lots of action, and all the story Iines tied up. Senior romance mystery and a couple of murders make for a fun read. Phee's mother and her animals were on their own planet, I worried Phee's eyes were going to roll out of her head. Thank you to NetGalley and publishers for this fun read.
This is an entertaining, fun book to read! I’ve read others in the series and knew what to expect. Quirky, zany characters (many) in a senior community that holds surprises, I look forward to the next book!
One of the best in this series: plenty of action, fast paced and it made me laugh out loud a lot of times.
I appreciated the subplot that could be very useful as senior citizens are often targeted by romantic scams.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
I haven't laughed so hard while reading a mystery in a long time! Phee and the book club crew are chasing a killer in a bowling alley while also trying to keep one of their own members from being scammed and heartbroken. Phee, her Mom and the other crew members are at the top of their game solving two mysteries.
If you'd like a mystery that will keep you guessing with humor and heart, this is the book for you!
I received an ARC from Net Galley and the opinions expressed in this review are my own.
This is the first book in this series that I have read and I struggled quite a bit to keep up with all of the characters. I did figure it all out and really enjoyed how each character was unique and added something to the plot. The plot itself was good, kept me guessing and even made me laugh several times. I plan to go back and read more of the series and look forward to future books.
This is the third book in the Sophie Kimball series I have read. I had really enjoyed the books I have read so far and will be going back and reading the first books in the series! Delightful characters that are well developed. Lots of unique and quirky personalities and you won’t be able to stop smiling and laughing as you flip through the pages. The murder mystery will have you guessing until the very end. All of the crazy antics that Sophie’s mother and her friends get into are entertaining. Once again you will be laughing and rolling your eyes at how they try to help Sophie (Phee) and the gang at Williams Investigations solve the murder. Streetman, Sophie’s mother’s chiweenie continues to cause a stir wherever he goes. This has been such a fun series to get involved in and I’m ready for the next adventure with the gang in Sun City West! This is a fun cozy mystery series.

When I start a book in this series I'm looking forward to chaos and quirky characters getting into trouble all while a long suffering Phee tries to keep order and calm. This didn't let me down! There was cyber scamming, affairs, rumors of a serial killer, lizards loose in a bowling alley, and just general chaos - all with stops for bagels and coffee in between.
There were two mysteries going on here. The first involves the murder victim and the second involves who is romance scamming one on the Book Club ladies and why. The murder definitely kept me guessing. The victims had multiple people who wanted to remove them from the equation so it kept me (and Phee, the rest of Williams Investigations and of course the Book Club ladies) guessing! The scamming isn't so much a whodunnit but a how is it going to get unraveled and we saw quite a bit of Rolo which always makes me happy.
The conclusion was a fun one and a bit of a surprise! I'm also oh so glad I don't have a dog like Streetman in my life but it is always fun to read about his misadventures! If you're looking for a light quirky cozy with a good portion of humor and likable characters this series is a great pick and this mystery was a fun one!
In the latest installment of A Sophie Kimball Mystery series by writing team J.C. Eaton the Sun City West gang is back for murder and hilarity. Phee's improved investigative skills are evidenced as she works with Augusta, Marshall and Nate to solve another death in her mother's retirement community world, this time at the local bowling alley. The characters are richly drawn and thoroughly delightful in their quirkiness. Do yourself a favor and get the entire serives.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed i9n this review are entirely my own.
Phee and the gang are back for yet another murder in Sun City West. There is a cast of characters list in the front of the book which is really great, so you know who is who, if you are new to this series. Phee works as bookkeeper for a detective agency. When a body is found and turns out to be someone from Sun City West, Phee’s mother and her friends want Phee to solve the crime before the Red Pin Bowling Tournament begins. A tall order but Phee gives it a go. A lot of twists, turns and laughs and another murder before all is well in Sun City West again. This is one of my favorite series. Thank you so much for allowing me to preview this book.
Great storylines with plenty of twists and turns, quirky characters, and a dog named Streetman keep this series
fun and interesting and fresh. I just can't get enough of Phee, Marshall, and the Sun City West crew.
Although this is book 13, new readers to the series should be able to follow along easily.
Many thanks to Beyond The Page and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor or expectation.
Pinned For Murder is the thirteenth installment of the Sophie Kimble Mystery set in Surprise, Arizona.
I love the craziness of the main character’s relatives and their friends. They impact Phee’s life and refuse to stand on the sidelines while an investigation is ongoing. This story deals with romance cyber scams and unscrupulous eldercare/living arrangements.
I like that the stories revolve around current trends in the news. The author did a great job of exposing the pit falls of both situations and couched in with humor to lighten the load.
I am looking forward to the next installment. Netgalley gave me an advanced readers copy and I am not required to leave a positive review.
A really entertaining and fun cozy.
The sleuth, Sophie (Phee) Kimball, works at an investigations office in Arizona. Her mother and friends live in Sun City West in Arizona.
I'd never read anything in this series before and this is the 13th book in the series. At first, I had a hard time keeping all the characters straight but, eventually I did (with the help of the Cast of Characters at the front).
What drew me to this? I've read thousands and thousands of mysteries but have never encountered a bowling mystery, of all things. Glad I read it. At times, it was hilarious.
I've just gone to pick up the first book in the series and am looking forward to reading them all.
Very enjoyable and a mystery I would recommend.
