I really appreciated this book, both in terms of content and presentation. Really lovely illustrations and engaging content. It awakens a sense of wonder and invites even adults to learn (I can't honestly say protists or archaea are on my radar).

The fact that the creatures are numbered is great. Having the names at the back allows for further discovery while not encumbering the actual text.

For most of the read, I thought it was wise to keep the book scientific (descriptive, taxonomic) and avoid entering into the evolution-creation debates. I myself am open to creation through evolution (I am not a strict seven-day creationist), but some of the phrases do betray an evolutionist way of thinking about creation: "have found ways" (7, 10/24), "the oldest type of life on Earth" (17/24).

I found this book very informational and I could see myself using it with my fifth grade class. I think it would be valuable if it were read over a number of days - there is a lot of information that could become overwhelming for a student in one sitting. The author uses age appropriate scientific vocabulary, which extends children’s learning and understanding.

The pictures are spectacular. They are so colorful, rich and detailed. I think this is especially important in science based books for children because it makes the written content more relevant and engaging.

Overall, this is a great book for teaching children about the different kingdoms of life.

Kingdoms of Life is such a visually stunning book full of wonderful information for kids to devour. I feel the information provided gives kids a great introduction to the many facets of life and will help create a zeal for learning more. The majority of the topics are simple enough for a younger audiences but also has more complex concepts that will appeal to an older audience. Overall, this is an absolutely gorgeous book that will certainly help light a fire in many kids hearts to learn more about nature and all matters of life!

A beautiful, fully illustrated short overview of the various kingdoms in our world. This is a topic that students learn in grade 6 or 7 in Ontario. This book is great not only for those students, but for younger students who are curious as well. The illustrations and manner in which the information is shared make this topic more accessible for learners who are at different levels.

This book was so. So. Boring. The only reason I gave this book two stars and not one is because the illustrations were really good. The writing was just someone spewing out a bunch of different facts at me, and it was painful. There was way too much writing on each page for the amount of artwork there was. The pages were just too overwhelming. It was also very unclear to tell which organism the author was referring to with how much there was going on on the pages. There was a glossary at the end with the numbers of the pictured organisms, but it's annoying to have to switch between the glossary and the page you're on all the time.
However, like I said, the illustrations were amazing. Animals were realistic-looking and absolutely beautiful. Even though I enjoyed looking at the pictures, there was just too much going on. You don't need to pack as much as possible onto every page. Leaving some open space allows the reader's brain to breathe, which this book failed at doing.
As for the writing, it was so boring and dull. It had no personality at all. Based on the length and the style of this book, I felt like this book was intended for kids. I don't understand how that could be true. Kids would be bored to death by this book, and they wouldn't retain very much information because of how many facts the author tried to jam into a 20-page book.
Illustrations were phenomenal, writing was painful.

“Kingdoms of Life” is an informational text, with amazing artwork, on the 6 Kingdoms. It provides detailed information contained in small paragraphs, numbered pictures for reference (located at the back of the book), and fun/interesting facts about members of each Kingdom. This book would allow for great vocabulary practice and tie in perfectly with numerous science units. As a 5th grade teacher, I would love to have this as part of my classroom library.

Kingdoms of Life is beautifully illustrated and full of interesting facts about each of the kingdoms. I learned so much through this book and can't wait to share with my students. I love that the illustrations of the life forms were numbered and listed by scientific name in the back of the book. Such a wonderful addition to a nonfiction shelf.
