This is a fun and very unique read that leaves the reader thinking… what the??! It is a very easy to follow read, and engaging in that it brings lots of twists and entertainment throughout. The added insight from a TikToker makes it even better. It’s a modern and fun read for anyone who is into questioning and thinking about things in a unique way..
This book is fun and spooky! The stories are clearly written and it makes it easy to both read and follow along. It is easy to fall into campy lines with this sort of subject but this book does it so well!!
Thank you, Netgalley, for allowing me to read and review this book. These opinions are completely my own
This book is filled with fun, creepy short stories that will captivate any cryptoid, unexplainable phenomenon or horror lover. Each story is unique and entertaining.
Some fascinating stories! (And some pretty freaky). I really enjoyed this and would love for there to be more. I know the author has been successful on TikTok and the like, but I’m not big on the video format and so love that she’s compiled so many stories into a book as that’s more my speed.
I’m not on TikTok, so I’ve never heard of this book’s author, “Auntie Matrix”. I do follow a couple of people on other sites that occasionally make “glitch in the matrix” videos or tell scary stories, but I always take them with a grain of salt, just as I did with this book. It’s not that I don’t believe in the other side, whatever that may be, but I don’t believe people are always honest about these kinds of encounters.
The author of the book could have written all of these stories herself, but given her large social media following, it’s very likely that actual people sent these stories in. Whether all of them are truthful is something we probably won’t ever know, but I imagine that at least some of the stories are true, as I’ve had some similar (though much less scary) experiences.
Regardless of your beliefs, this is definitely a creepy collection of stories that left me with literal goosebumps. I love thinking about “other sides”, alternate universes, parallel timelines, deja vu, etc., and reading people’s submissions was definitely interesting - it only took a couple hours to get through them all and I definitely could read more! The author did ask for more submissions at the end, so maybe there will be another book, but this one was highly entertaining and interesting. Four stars.
(Thank you to Sterling Ethos, Jessica Castro and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be released on September 10, 2024.)
