The Tenacious Act is Book one in the One More Chapter Series. I loved it! Three friends meet on bookstagram and open a bookstore together. The name is on the cover of the book and is the best ever for a book store "No Shelf Control". I adore Mr. Darcy. Their contractor leaves having declared bankruptcy and never finished the job. Now their bookstore opening is in the hands of a professional hockey leave. One of the friends brother is on the team. So many book types covered here and the romance is so very, very swoon worthy. This book is perfect for book lovers with so much humor and book banter! I can't wait for more in this series! Thanks to Marion De Re and #NetGalley for this amazing ARC!
This one really is a love letter to Bookstagram. I loved all the details and I felt so seen through the entire book...ALL of my favorite things in one story. It's got all the genres, bookish lingo, and tropes...and it's a hockey romance to boot. Marion always does a great job, but this one is next level...an absolute must-read for romance lovers!
Hayley...I really enjoyed Marion's different take on body positivity with this FMC. I love a good curvy heroine because that's my reality, but I loved the different representation with Hayley having a strong, athletic build. I also loved how Hayley was brave enough to break out of her mother's world and fight for her own happiness (translated: opening her own bookstore with her best friends). I also appreciated that Hayley didn't just give in to Maxime right away. She made him really work to show her that he was for real. Smart girl.
Maxime...This guy seemed to be a bit immature and concerned mainly about having a good time at the beginning. In reality, Max ended up having a ton of depth and authenticity. I honestly love when I'm wrong about a character and the author makes my opinion totally change as I read. By the end, he was just the swooniest and I adored how he fought for and treasured Hayley.
Things I loved:
❤️The entire idea of opening a romance bookstore with your besties (what an absolute dream)
❤️All the bookish lingo and details
❤️The representation of so many romance genres
❤️All the tropes
❤️Mr. Darcy (even though I'm not a cat person)
❤️Hockey (it's just my absolute favorite sports romance)
❤️Maxime charming Hayley's mom
❤️Great banter
❤️French language/mentions
❤️He reads to get closer to her 😍
❤️Low key found family vibes
❤️Sneak peeks at Alice's story
⭐⭐⭐⭐
🌶️
Thank you to NetGalley, Marion De Ré, and the Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for my free ebook. All opinions included here are my own!
I read this as an ARC on NetGalley. I loved, loved, loved this book and cannot wait to read the next in the series. Book talk, hockey romance. It was utterly perfect!
This was my first book by this author and it was lovely.
The tension between the characters upon their first meeting was an intresting dynamic of sorta enemies to lovers. The relationship between our male protaganist and his sister was really admirable. Overall it was a great read that consisted of characters that developed as the story progressed.
I was so excited to read this book and I will say this one got me from the beginning. This book is a romance reader's dream: it features a best friend's brother, a charming bookstore, endless book discussions, beloved tropes, a hockey romance, and an adorable bookstore cat named Mr. Darcy.
And I'm so glad we didn't get a 3rd act breakup. Hayley was rational and got the information first before doing anything drastic and that's exactly what everyone should do. I am not a fan of the 3rd act breakup.
Hayley was very relatable as she deals with self-esteem issues despite being beutiful and smart and always feels like she comes short to her mother's expectations.
I found myself glued to my kindle, reading late into the night with my husband asking when I would stop reading.
Overall I loved it and I love door closed romance books and this is now a top favorite. Can't wait to read more from this author.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were well developed and lovable. The pacing was perfect and left you wanting to read more. I can't wait to read more by this author!
This is my first time reading a story by this author but it definitely won’t be my last… I cannot wait for the next two instalments!
This was a cute booksta romance with a HEA.
Three booksta besties - Hayley, Alice and Emma are opening a bookstore when their contractor goes belly-up mid-build and with opening day fast approaching, they are in need of some major magic to get their on time.
Maxine is Alice’s brother and a rising NHL star. He’s so adorable- you could say he’s a Knight in Padded Armour along with his teammates. Totally swoon-worthy like a true book boyfriend.
The characters and plot was really well written and as an ARC reader reading a book where there are ARC readers was kinda funny and relatable.
And let’s not forget to mention Mr Darcey the cat!
Who doesn't love a book over other books or libraries? I love them and this book combines so many elements that make it a "must read" for Romance readers.
.
This series promises to be excellent, and I say this only after reading the first book.
.
Hayley, like many of us, is a fan and part of the bookish side of Instagram, Bookstagram. And that's where she meets Emma and Alice, from friends on Instagram to best friends in real life and then owners of a bookstore.
.
After moving to the same city and settling in the apartment above what is going to be their business, they receive the news that the contractor declared bankrupt. Stranded with materials and a lot of work ahead, they don't know what to do
.
But as fate would have it, Alice's brother, Maxime, is transferred to the local hockey team. And when he visits, he decides to ask his teammates for help. Even as the Rookie, they decide to help.
.
Best friend's brother, hockey player, strong bookish characters, body positivity, a little fake relationship are some of the elements of this story that leave you wanting to get inside the heads of the other characters and know their stories, and how they’re going to find love
.
It was so fun to read, and I was pleased to know that it is inspired by people from the bookstagram world.
.
Thanks to Marion De Ré for give me a copy of this beautiful and cute book in exchange for my honest and voluntary opinion.
Thank you to Marion De Ré & Netgally for e-ARC.
After connecting on social media, three friends decided to take the risk of moving to New York to launch a bookstore together. Sadly, their contractor has pulled out, and her best friend's brother is among the group of hockey players who have stepped up to take his place. I loved the way their relationship developed and how beautifully they interacted. I really liked how Maxime encouraged Haley's self-esteem. They had no intention of finding love. The primary characters reflect the feelings that come with being a part of this community (bookstagram), and it's a terrific place to start for anyone who wants to learn how it works. I'm eager to start the next book in the series.
A best friends brother romance, the story of Maxime and Hayley. I love a book set in a book shop and this was no exception. Can't wait for the rest of the series!
The Tenacious Act by Marion De Ré was such a sweet hockey rom-com!
This book totally hooks you right from the start. I enjoyed the fast-paced, fun and moments of pure humor.
Thank You NetGalley and Marion De Ré for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
This is the 3rd book I have read from this author, and yet again I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Very easy to read, with very likeable characters, and like every great romance I couldn't wait to get to the ending to see if they had their happily ever after.
I found this book very relatable as it follows 3 ladies who all met on Bookstagram, and decided to open their own bookshop in New York.
They talked about ARCS, and tropes which are all terms I have grown to use with my reviews of arcs.
Would recommend
Thank you for allowing me to read this book. This is my first time reading a book by Marion and it definitely will not be the last either.
I found this book a really cute read and I absolutely loved the characters. As someone who loves ice hockey, an ice hockey romance is always first choice for me and a go to read. I loved the idea of how Hayley, Alice and Emma became friends and I’m hoping to see more of them in the future. I loved the dual POV and the best friends brother trope, and I really enjoyed seeing a book lover being the main character and showing the love interest the world of romance books and how he becomes interested in the books so they were able to talk and discuss the books.
I really liked this book it was fast paced and a fun read. It had humour and romance and from someone who loves books it was so good to have characters to connect to. I’d love to own a bookshop so it was cute to have that in a book.
This was so cute and adorable. I loved it.
I loved all the characters and their dynamics.
Hayley had a lot of self image issues and I felt for her. It's not issue being a little diferent from all the other girls and just seeing all the diferences. I liked her attitude and her personality.
Maxime was swoon worthy, like a true book boyfriend. The way that man was into her and wanted just her from the moment he saw her was everything. He made her see herself the way he saw her and that was so perfect. I just loved how he loved her.
They made a very good couple, them being together made more than sense, it was meant to be.
And I'm so glad we didn't get a 3rd act breakup. Hayley was rational and got the information first before doing anything drastic and that's exactly what everyone should do
4/5
The Tenacious Act chronicles a group of supportive female friends, a sweet love story and has callouts to some of the romance novels of all time (a la Mr. Darcy)!
Marion’s writing never disappoints and this book is a must read this summer!
Hayley has decided to open a bookstore with her two Bookstagram friends. Their contractor has gone out of business, though, and they are stuck. Fortunately, one friend has a brother, Maxime, who is a rookie NHL player. He brings the team to help out because he wants to get to know Hayley. She is resistant, but he gets the idea to learn from romance novels. There is no way she can resist that!
This book is so relatable to everyone on bookstagram for many reasons. First and most important reason, is that the book is dedicated to us and the theme of the book surrounds the bookstagram community and I think that’s so cute 🥹 Thank YOU!!!
I’m starting my own small business too and I have similar ideas to ‘No Shelf Control’ but it was so nice to read because through the whole books I kept saying SAME. SAME. SAME. SAME.
I also want to open a bookstore in the future where my mom bakes all the sweet goodies and helps me make warm fuzzy drinks while we set up the coziest place for people to come in and read books.. so I really can’t emphasize enough how endearing this book was
I felt like I could relate more to Emma than all the other girls. What really caught my eye with her was the method of choosing books. I hate reading the blurbs or synopses of books because I feel like it ruins it for me. I start expecting things and I hate it. I like going in blind. I thought I was the only one who does that, so it made me happy that Emma is like that too🙊
I love how Hayley’s insecurities were portrayed. It’s such a natural struggle with everyone, especially with girls though (that’s what I’ve seen - or it could be equally the same but girls show it more) and it felt good to read about it too. I like how authors see those struggles and interpret them in such a beautiful and comforting way with their own words without disguising the cruelty of this world
What I also really like in Marion’s books, is that not all the girls are thin or with a tight waist, or a perfect physique… no. She renders out characters with actual body images and thoughts and feelings and I think that’s just so real
OH AND, when he said ‘I need to make my girl proud’, I literally squealed and yelled out ‘YOU’RE GIRL????’ Ugh, boy do I love this man. He’s so attentive and detail oriented. His actions speak louder than his words. I love that. He’s the definition of ‘if he wanted to, he would’ and I absolutely adored that. What more can a girl as for?
I think this was my favorite book by you so far, but again I feel like I always say that so I don’t even know anymore😂 That’s me not even being biased, imagine if I was??🥵
I don’t know how you write books FASTER than I read but it sure is something to be hella proud of🤍
This was such a cute story that I found on netgalley! Three friends decide to open a bookstore but due bad luck. They need help finishing the store so one of the friends, Alice has a brother Max who play professional hockey and his team are forced to help finish as a team building community exercise. Max and the heroine Hayley have the best banter friendship that grows throughout the story. Hayley love for all things books is protects from her insecurities that’ she due to issues she has with her mom and how she feels about herself. Marion is a great writer this is I believe the third book I’ve read and I will continue to read from her.
If you’re looking for a cute AF low spice (closed door), low angst, high good-feels book then this one is for you.
Three bookish besties - Hayley, Alice and Emma - are opening a romance bookstore when their contractor goes bankrupt mid-build.
With opening day on the very near horizon, they need some magic to keep to their deadline.
Queue Alice’s NHL Rookie brother Max and his team, the NY Raptors. Under the orders of their coach as a team building exercise, the Raptors band together to get the bookstore painted and built in time for their big opening.
Little did Hayley know that Max would not only help put together her store, he would put together her heart.
