It's been years since I have read a Donna Grant book and after reading this I want to kick myself, because I loved them and I don't know why I punished myself by missing her books. This book is late in a series, but I think that while it would be ready to read the others, it holds up as a stand alone. (I have plans to go buy the backlist of at least this series)

Henry, a former MI5 agent, and Melisse, the Dragon Queen, are our main characters. Henry finds out that he is a descendant of Dragon Kings and goes to investigate this. He meets and becomes involved with Melisse, but a betrayl occurs that initially tears them apart. They overcome this and join together to try and prevent war.

They have great chemistry together and Ms. Grant writes a great love scene. I can't wait to go read the others in the series.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC. All opinions are my own - reading this is a great way to spend a day!

This book was a really slow read. I found myself skimming instead of reading. The characters were likable. I needed a little more action in this book.

Disclaimer: I would like to note that I received this ARC with the mindset that I would provide an honest review.
I am truly excited to have been given an opportunity to read this ARC. I love Donna Grant’s books and have always enjoyed her writing style.
It is important to note that this book is the 8th in the series. While it is not critical, that you read all of the other books in the series, I would recommend that you do so because the characters and background are all connected.
Like with all of her books, we are instantly transported into a new world and in this world there are dragons. Enough said, am I right?
Henry, our male main character, once served as a MI5 agent that has now found out that he has a connection to this new world filled with dragons, fae, and magic. And within this connection he is introduced to our female main character, Melisse the Dragon Queen.
The chemistry between Henry and Melisse was top notch. I honestly think that is one of the best things about this book. Within Dragon Born, we are taken on a whirlwind of adventure, betrayal, and romance. The writing is done well and the pace is steady. I was never bored while reading, quite the opposite, and I wanted to know more throughout this book. I think the best books are those that make you question and wonder and this book definitely delivered.
I do not want to give too much away but I will say that I definitely recommend that you read this book. Thank you to Donna Grant for another wonderful book!

Title: Dragon Born

Author: Donna Grant

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Rating: ★★★★☆
Release Date: 9th July 2024

Donna Grant’s "Dragon Born" is a sizzling, heart-pounding romance that transports readers into a world of magic, danger, and intense passion.

Henry, a former MI5 agent, has his world turned upside down when he discovers his bloodline ties him to a realm of Dragon Kings, Fae, Reapers, and magic. His life changes irrevocably when he encounters Melisse, the formidable Dragon Queen, known as the Queen of Violets.

Powerful, shrewd, and defiant, Melisse is feared by her own kind and pursued by many. The moment they meet, an unbreakable bond forms, but betrayal and deception soon follow.

Despite the betrayal, Henry is consumed by his desire for Melisse, her presence an unquenchable fire in his veins. When a new, malicious danger threatens her, Henry defies all rules to protect the queen he can’t forget.

What I Loved:

1. Intense Chemistry: The chemistry between Henry and Melisse is electric. Their connection is immediate and deeply passionate, adding a thrilling intensity to the story.
2. Intriguing World-Building: Grant’s vivid description of the realms of Dragons, Fae, Reapers, and Druids creates a rich, immersive world. The intricate lore and magic make for an enchanting backdrop to the romance.
3. Strong Protagonists: Henry and Melisse are both compelling characters. Henry’s transformation from MI5 agent to a protector bound by ancient magic is intriguing, and Melisse’s strength and complexity as the Dragon Queen make her a captivating heroine.
4. Action-Packed Plot: The novel is filled with suspense and action, keeping readers on the edge of their seats. The blend of romantic tension and thrilling danger makes for a fast-paced and engaging read.

The unique and magical connection between Henry and Melisse, which transcends realms and space, adds a mystical and almost poetic dimension to their love story. This supernatural bond sets "Dragon Born" apart from typical romance novels.

"Dragon Born" is a fun, fiery, and enchanting read that combines the best elements of fantasy and romance. Donna Grant’s ability to craft a world filled with magic, danger, and undeniable passion makes this novel a standout in the paranormal romance genre.

While the story is packed with intense moments and steamy romance, it also explores themes of loyalty, betrayal, and redemption. Henry’s journey to protect the woman he loves, despite the odds and past betrayals, is both thrilling and heartwarming.

For those who enjoy a mix of magic, dragons, and passionate romance, "Dragon Born" offers an exhilarating escape into a world where love truly knows no bounds. So, prepare to be swept away by the Dragon Queen and her devoted protector in this captivating tale of love and magic.

Another suspense-filled, action-packed novel by Donna Grant in her Dragon Kings series. War looms ever present between the Dragons and the humans on Zora and the dragon kings are doing their utmost to prevent it. Meanwhile, Villette is doing her best to capture more dragons while egging the humans on in their hatred of dragons. A new nameless character is introduced on Zora, a Druid. Henry's determined to prevent or mitigate the evil that this Druid represents. Melisse joins up with Henry and the Dragon Kings in their battle against said Druid.

This is definitely not a standalone novella; the backstory from previous books in this series is essential to better understanding what is going on. As always, Donna Grant ends with an unexpected development and an Epilogue that hints at things to come, including Skye Druids, Merrill, Villette, and Katla. Looking forward to reading future novels in the world of the Dragon Kings.

It is always a little strange to start reading a series from the eighth volume, but all in all, without paying too much attention to who is who, the story has not been a problem to follow. Henry and Melissa have a nice storyline that fits perfectly into the overall Arc of the series against Villette, so it is also likely that I will continue reading it.

I received from the Publisher a complimentary digital advanced review copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.
