The Hotel Maid offers a gripping and suspenseful read with a fascinating glimpse into the life of an overlooked hotel worker caught up in a deadly mystery. The story builds tension effectively, especially as secrets unravel and the stakes rise with a missing child and a murder. The protagonist’s quiet, secretive nature adds depth, making her an intriguing character to follow. While the pacing can feel a bit uneven at times, the twists and turns keep you hooked. It’s an engaging thriller that plays with themes of invisibility and guilt, perfect for fans of suspenseful, character-driven mysteries.

This book was a slow drag. It really took awhile to build up to anything and then it was lackluster. I expected more from the ending.

This one surprised me a bit. I was not expecting the number of deaths that occurred in this book. some of them were rather graphic. I did love the different puzzle pieces scattered throughout the book and the clever way they came together for the jaw dropping ending. very unique!

What an enthralling book! I love the fact it brings in the past and present and you don't know who which character is. The narrator seems unreliable to some extent that it could just be a child over exaggerating. You feel the child's emotions and what it would be like to be in that situation. During the middle I was a little bit bored but the twist brought me right back in!
4*

I'm always drawn to books with an "invisible" character around the posh, and The Hotel Maid was just that! I enjoyed the dual POVs, and was thrilled with how it all came together in the end. In the beginning, there are a lot of characters to try to follow, which made things a little confusing at times. However, I enjoyed the variety of likable and truly despicable cast of characters.

This was definitely a dark thriller, and I would highly recommend adding TWs (self-harm, CA, suicide). I had guessed the main twist of the story early on, but I'm not mad about it! The ending was fantastic. I'd definitely recommend picking this book up!!

Quite a thrill ride of a read. The hotel maid, who no one notices or knows anything about. The death of a guest and the disappearance of a child. Lot of action and a great psychological thriller!

I loved The Hotel Maid by Michelle Dunne and narrated by Jacqueline Milne, it was an audiobook that gripped me from the beginning till the very end, especially as it was full of twists and turns throughout.

I highly recommend this audiobook. A great find.

The narrator, Jacqueline Milne was excellent and kept me listening till the early hours of the morning.

Big Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for my ARC.

The Hotel Maid by Michelle Dunne is a slow build but ulimately fast paced psychological thriller that is made even more compelling in its plausibility.

The story focussses on the invisibilty of people in the service industry, sometimes by choice, sometimes by the ignorance of patrons. Either way, when June finds her client dead in her hotel room with a note professing to know who she (June) is, she is compelled to ensure that her identitiy and history remains secret, and she invisible from the world

A fantastic thriller that while slower to start, blossoms with a cornicopia af fascinating characters and a well structured storyline that kept me guessing. Brilliant and I am looking forward to seeing more from Michelle Dunne

Thank you to NetGalley, Storm Publishing and the author Michelle Dunne for this ARC

First and foremost, I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me access to this ARC. I feel like this book has so much potential but it fell short overall. I love a good suspense read and this book certainly had the suspense and mystery and had me guessing until probably the three-quarter mark. around that time in the book things began to be telegraphed with the ending mystery becoming more and more predictable.

I also question the need for certain elements of the story that i guess the author wanted to include for some reason. the fact that the main character is a cutter, serves no purpose in the end run of the book. Also, the more the story progresses, the less likable all the characters become.

overall, i really wanted to like this book, but by the end it was a read i was glad to be finished wiith.

I'm giving this one 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.
Although it was a little slow to start, it was quite the thrill ride once it got going. The twists and turns were truly unexpected, and I enjoyed how dark it ended up being. I also loved that it had an unreliable narrator. That's something I always gravitate towards in thrillers.

Overall, despite the slow start, I did end up liking The Hotel Maid very much.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked starting with the murder from the beginning as a little foreshadowing. I also enjoyed the main character and her connection with her boss. I thought that was a very interesting dynamic between the two that I thought really worked.

The dynamic of all the workers and of the people in the hotel was really fun. I enjoyed seeing all the layers be pulled back the further into the story we got. The plot twist with June and Mia didn't necessarily surprise me as I was expecting it throughout the book but it still worked in some capacity for me even though it wasn't a huge surprise.

I wasn't the biggest fan of Tess as a character. I don't think she added what I needed her to for the story.

Overall, I really enjoyed this read and would recommend it to people who like thrillers.

The Hotel Maid has an interesting premise and location. I loved the hotel vibes; there’s a dark, twisty plot here. That being said, the plot won't be for everyone (check the trigger warnings).

There are a lot of characters thrown at you right away, which was a bit overwhelming, and some of the timelines didn’t feel super clear. It’s a complex story, and I often wondered where it was all going. Mia was the highlight—easily my favourite and the most likable character in the mix.

Thank you, Storm and NetGalley, for the gifted e-arc.

Did anyone else do a second look at this cover?

It sure is stunning.

I had never heard of Michelle Dunne, before and I was truly ashamed, so I high tailed it over to amazon and purchased, "The Good Girl" .

Well, my first instinct was correct, we have an auto buy author right here and I feel as though it is my duty to hype of Michelle Dunne. This showstopper is going to have people chatting for years to come. If you don't know of her yet, you need to take my word for it and pick up one of her three publications.

I am addicted to this little lady.

The Hotel Maid, exceeds all expectations and will have you salivating over each thrill and chill.

Don't take my word for it, check out this teaser :

I straighten the apron wrapped around my waist and swipe the key card in the guest room door. As I place the cleaning bucket by my feet, I see the woman lying unmoving on the plush carpet, her eyes frozen.

Each morning, I arrive at the luxury Cedarwood Manor hotel, put on my crisp maid’s uniform and clean the rooms. I take great care in my work as I slip from one floor to the other.

Most guests barely know my name. I’m invisible to them. That’s ok. I prefer people didn’t know my secrets.

But today a woman has been found dead in her room and a ten-year-old little girl has been reported missing from the hotel.

Today, someone has left me a note saying they know who I am.

But they must be mistaken. I’ll make sure they are.

I loved the good girl so was excited to read this book by the same author. June is a maid that comes in, does her job, and falls into the shadows. This is why she is requested as the only maid to serve Ms Kelly, a famous actress and elite guest. Her daughter, Mia, is also a frequent guest.
When June finds Ms Kelly dead and Mia goes missing, a mystery unfolds as June shares her past and present.
The book has multiple POVs and plenty of twists and turns. I did both ebook and audio for this. Both were fast paced, the audiobook narrator was expressive and did great. Mia’s perspective from my favorite and I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would !

I was initially really drawn into this by the main character who is very quirky and enjoyable. As the story continued on the suspense built with her "father" and her and I was afraid I knew where it was headed. Where this lost me was last 20% of the book. I just didn't think the energy matched the rest of the book and I was left a bit unsatisfied. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I had high hopes for this novel, but in spite of lots of twists and multiple storylines, I just did not connect with the main character & found it too similar to others in the genre. That said, it did keep me up late to find out what the final twist was.

A dark tale. That leads you one way then after discovering a dead body you get led astray.
Very good & well written

Mia enjoys the annaminty of being a hotel maid. She prefers to be obscure and inconspicuous. Mia doesn’t not want anyone to discover that she has secrets …. secrets that are deadly.
But when anonymous notes appear claiming that they know what Mia’s secrets are, she must do whatever it takes to keep those she is protecting safe including herself.

This book reminded me of The Maid, but it was written in a way that kept me hooked until the final page. The unpredictable twists had me constantly questioning Mia’s true identity and motives. I restlessly wanted to uncover how the two storylines connected and discover the mystery behind the little girl. A wonderful page turning thriller!
