High end hotel maid, Jane, keeps her head down and mouth closed, and does her best to not be seen or heard as she tends to the guest rooms. She knows this is the best way to learn peoples secrets. But Jane is hiding secrets of her own. When she starts finding mysterious notes left for her, she realizes someone else knows about her past. When a hotel guest is found dead, will all of Jane’s secrets come to light?

Told from different perspectives in the past and present. I was a bit confused at one point with the cast of characters, but it all comes together by the ending. Good, quick read with unexpected twists.

Michelle Dunne’s The Hotel Maid was a thrilling psychological thriller that I couldn’t put down once I started it.

Could you plan an elaborate revenge plot à la Comte de Montecristo/the Count of Monte Cristo twice in your life?

This book was stunning in its cunning and creativity! I was totally taken aback when little truths were revealed, and absolutely floored when the actual truth was revealed to everyone in the book.

In this dual storyline, we learn about the lives of Mia, a 10 year old, who is constantly reminded of her learning disabilities in the harshest way possible; and Jane, the invisible hotel maid, who is living slightly less than paycheck-to-paycheck. Both of their lives are affected tangentially by the luxurious Cedarwood Manor hotel. Both have disturbing things that they have to deal with daily that are unfair, but each compensates differently.

Will either end up vindicated with a happy ending for themselves?

Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for this amazing, and so engrossing, ARC!!

3.5/5

Fast paced quick read.
There’s so many twists and turns.
There’s multiple perspectives which help keep the book moving. There’s a lot of moving parts so you have to pay attention to all the names.

Jane is a maid in a hotel. She likes it because she can be invisible. She deals with a difficult guest a lot. She has more connections with that guest than she knows.

If you have not read The Housemaid by Freida McFadden or The Maid by Nita Prose, I think this book will do you justice.

I think since I've read so many books with similar story lines, characters, etc that it just fell flat for me.
I'm very good with predictions so did have this one figured out, I DNF'd it towards the end. Nothing was really exciting me enough to keep me going.

Thank you for this arc read and I wish the author success!

June is a maid in a nice hotel. She comes to work, puts on her uniform and cleans - preferring the anonymity that her job offers.
Until a woman is found dead in a room she enters to clean and a 10 year old child disappears.

It seems someone knows June's secret, which she is desperate to keep hidden.

I enjoyed this book. It took me a bit to get into it but once I did the plot propelled me along until I finished the book. All I wanted to do was get to the end and see what the conclusion was. Really a page-turner, I recommend this book

Whan a woman is found dead in one of her rooms and a ten year old girl is reported missing from the hotel, June begins to panic. Then she receives a note from someone claiming to know who she is and what she did. But do they really know? I wasn't planning on devouring this book in one weekend, but I did and have no regrets.! The Hotel Maid alternates between two POVs, but how they are related isn't revealed until the very end. I found myself piecing together bits of the story, trying to make sense of it all.

Here's why I loved The Hotel Maid:

The main characters are interesting. There are some that you will hate (because they are terrible people) but none are boring. This goes for the main characters and the ancillary characters.

The book has good pacing. The reader will have more questions than answers, but you are on a journey. Half the fun is getting there!

The story gets complex, but the author clearly communicates what is happening.

Thanks for the ARC. I enjoyed this one and would love to read more from this author.

Thank you to NetGalley, author Michelle Dunne and Storm publishing for the ARC and opportunity to review this book.

I’m sad to say that I wasn’t ‘wowed’ by it. I feel the whole maid storylines have had their time. It felt a little like the Freida books without as many twists and turns.

The character development was great, it had moments of suspense but not enough in my opinion to classify it as a thriller.

The writing style was well done. Descriptive although lacked something to make me want to keep turning the pages. Maybe it’s just me, but I expected something more. The ending was great, but I wasn’t really invested in turning pages until about 75% of the way through.

I would absolutely read more by this author though because perhaps I just need something that isn’t about a ‘maid’. Something with a completely different storyline.

3.5 stars from me ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was very pleasantly surprised by how much I ended up liking this book. It started out kinda iffy for me, but as the story went on I got more and more interested. I was constantly trying to put the puzzle pieces together and then I thought they came together well. I loved the multiple POVs.

I started reading this hoping it wasn’t a copy of The Maid by Nita Prose. But while I enjoyed that book, it had none of the non-stop page-turning thrills that this one does. Honestly, I read it all in one sitting and I couldn’t get enough of it. The author just has a way of drawing you in and immersing you in the story – I never once found my attention drifting. Sure, there are similarities to that other story, but I’m sure hotels are pretty much run the same way, so of course there will be similar characters and scheduled work activities these characters do that would be the same in any story about maids.

There’s so much that can’t be said about the book because of spoilers, so I’ll just say that June is the maid in question who works at a beautiful luxury hotel frequented by the wealthy and obnoxious. As a worker whose presence is typically overlooked, she sees and hears all sorts and doesn’t let any tidbit slip by. Part of it is curiosity, but it’s also for self-preservation. The guests aren’t the only ones with secrets, and June ensures that it stays that way. Or else.
