Idk if this was a me thing or if I really thought it was just mid. I liked it enough, but my head just wasn’t in it. It worked because I didn’t have anything super exciting and it didn’t have anything that I had any real issues with. It was fine and it did what it was supposed to do.
Ok so the FMC was a little bit weird tho. She did A LOT of weird shit that she shouldn’t have done. Like the notes thing? That’s sketchy and not her business. ESPECIALLY if she didn’t even like him. So basically I was side eyeing her after that. I never really felt like she redeemed herself after that either because she kept it a secret from him. She definitely should have told him. And the way she was so obsessed with everything BUT being a good person? Yeah she wasn’t my favorite, but I understood why she was written that way. The MMC was just basic tho. It was supposed to be enemies to lovers, but he was just regular. I didn’t feel like there was anything special to him. And the way she was saying she was falling for him with some of the ways he was special and the way he was when they hung out and I also thought that was weird. Like she fell for a dude that that was planning dates and other things for someone else? Is that not weird?
Ok so the romance was cute, but again, it wasn’t anything over basic. She fell for a dude that had feelings for someone else… And then, she tried to gaslight herself by saying he was doing it subconsciously for her. And I’m like uhhh ok. I don’t want to be a subconscious thought? I want to be the first thing you think about? And like, she was feeding him this stuff? Idk it seemed sus to me. I know I’m not everyone, but it wasn’t exactly Earth shattering. I don’t think I would have remembered what happened at all if I hadn’t written notes down immediately after lol
It’s not that it was bad, it was just basic. I’m not sure if I had my mind shut off because of WHEN I read this and I just needed to be reading words, or what, but whatever it was, I just didn’t feel all in. I don’t know that it was my fault either tho. I have read another book by Light and wasn’t exactly super moved the either. I guess I have to read their last one to see.
A light-hearted YA coming of age co-worker, enemies to lovers romcom that features Jackie Meyers, a new high school grad who is trying to save money over the summer in order to buy a used car and help drive her best friend to college across the country.
As a way to make a little money on the side Jackie finds herself running an anonymous break up blog service where she accidentally helps her boss, Wilson's girlfriend decide to break up with him. Feeling guilty, Jackie offers to help him win his ex back but the more time they spend together, the more things they realize they have in common and perhaps they like each other more than they thought they hated one another.
This was really good on audio read by Jesse Vilinsky (a favorite narrator of mine) and one of the author's more light-hearted stories. It was full of humor, had great banter and great family dynamics. Recommended for fans of authors like Lynn Painter and Emma Lord. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early voice galley in exchange for my honest review!
I’m usually a huge YA romance lover but couldn’t get myself into this book completely. Parts of the book felt choppy to me.
I did start off liking this book, but ended up just being meh about the MC and the romance didn’t hit for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the voicegalley advance audio edition in exchange for my honest review.
