I did not realize how badly I needed to read a romance until I finished the first chapter of this. And I'm so glad it was *this* romance, because I was completely enamoured by it. A true romcom with incredible How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days energy, this had me cackling out loud one page and swooning the next. The steam is great, and the chemistry between Sawyer and Mason was incredible. I definitely found a new favourite romance author with this one!

4.25 stars!

This was such a delightful read! I love these characters. They are so fucking adorable. An author and an actor. Two creative types out to ruin romance for each other by recreating romance's favorite tropes? What could possibly go wrong? Honestly, this is almost fake dating and that is one of my favorite tropes. Two stupid idiots think that they are smarter than the rest of us and won't catch feelings? They were doomed from the beginning, but it was still fun to watch them crumble beneath fate's glittery boot. I honestly had a great time with this read. It had the right level of spice and sappy: the tights scene, Peter Gabriel, eating pho, etc. I loved the little definitions at the beginning of each chapter. I thought they meshed well with the story and they were funny. Towards the end, I couldn't put this down. I was at the point where I was reading at work when I probably should have been working.

Thank you, NetGalley and Forever for this amazing eARC!

Over all, a fun read! Loved the concept and the chemistry was great. But the setup for the “unromancing” was just a little bit… loose? The setup for WHY they were doing the romance trope bits just didn’t feel developed enough. Did love how much love there was for the genre conventions, though. Fun little Easter Eggs for every rom-com lover.

This was a surprisingly fun and quirky romance! I loved all the rom-com references and the trope checklist that Mason and Sawyer were enacting. The two were so sweet together and I loved that the base of their relationship was a true friendship before anything else. Not to mention their banter and chemistry was so vibrant and lively. While I was a little shocked this was set around the holiday times, the balance of festivity and normal activities, made this the perfect post-holiday season read. I think Erin Connor absolutely killed it with this debut romance and I cannot wait to see what she does next!

Unromance was truly a cute book. The story was engaging and absorbing.

We follow a star crossed couple, a writer and an actor, who are both the complete opposite of each other yet complement one another in the best possible way. One needs a jumpstart to get over her writing slump and the other needs to cure his romanic hopelessness. They strike a deal to help each other truly believing that if they stick to their rule they will be the exemption of the rule and not fall for each other.

The character growth while well paced was mostly concentrated in the last 15% of the book which might make it feel rush or undeveloped.
I would of loved to see Sawyer grow at a steadier pace so that the end doesnt feel like a 180 although i highly enjoyed it! When it comes to Mason I think it would’ve been interesting to see the outcome of his relationship with his mom. While both characters had issues outside of their couple, the book mostly focused on the ones within their relationship, love life and anything affected by that which left other aspect open ended.

The structure was also interesting, by marking each of the chapters by which trope or cliche they will demonstrate not only are we guided as readers but we are also allowed a glimpse into how an author might structure their work.

I absolutely adored this clever, funny, and heartfelt love letter to rom-coms! Erin Connor’s debut is so dang good—it’s sharp, witty, and full of charm. Sawyer and Mason’s chemistry was electric from their elevator meet-cute to their hilariously doomed attempt at a "no romance" pact. The meta humor about romance and storytelling added such a fun layer to the plot, while still delivering all the swoon-worthy moments. I loved following Sawyer as she rediscovered her passion for writing (and love), and Mason’s mix of charm and vulnerability completely won me over. I kept catching myself smiling to myself as I was reading this amazing book! Cannot wait to see what Erin brings us in the future!

We start with a bang here with an elevator meet-cute and a one-night-stand for Sawyer and Mason. And then we find out that Mason is a famous actor who is being maligned in the press for a string of break-ups (none of which were his fault) and Sawyer is a romance novelist who is having major writers’ block. When they run into each other again, they decide to strike a deal where they hang out with each other doing cheesy romantic things so that Mason can desensitize himself from being a total romantic and so that Sawyer can find inspiration for their writing. And of course, they have a list of rules to go with their deal. The rules are clearly going to go out the window as these two people spend time together and get all emotionally entangled (on top of the physical attraction that started this whole thing). This book was both emotional and super funny and steamy all at once. The flirty witty banter was so much fun to read, plus all their meddlesome friends made a great supporting cast.

Sawyer is a romance author, who after a bad breakup has stopped believing in HEAs.. giving her a severe writer’s block. Mason is a popular B-List actor from a hit TV show, known for being a hopeless romantic - dating his costars & relentlessly ending up in the tabloids because of it. They end up stuck in an elevator together, their meet cute filled with the most delicious banter & chemistry. On a whim out of character for them both, they spend one glorious night together. Running into each other again weeks later, they hatch a plan to help each other out. They’ll do a bunch of classically assumed romantic things together in attempts to “ruin” him of his all to easy romantic notions & she’ll get some inspiration to write again.

Gah, this was so special.

I fell HARD for this book, repeatedly staying up far too late in order to stay surrounded by these characters. First, I loved this combo of MCs: a romance author who’s done with romance & an actor that loves love. The banter & playfulness between the two was so palpable I could see their interactions playing out in front of me. It’s hard for me to believe this was a debut, the writing & humor impressing me to no end.

I connected so much to Sawyer and Mason. Her hesitation to open herself up again felt relatable while his desire to find the one was incredibly endearing. The pacing of strangers to bed mates to friends to lovers was perfectly done. Go & read this ASAP! Swoon & thank me later.

Thank you to @readforeverpub for the eARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Loved this! The characters, the premise and particularly the writing.

The little snippet at the beginning of each chapter was a great touch.

This is a strong debut, that gives you everything you want from a romance book, including some very spicy scenes 🥵 The character development and the plot was also well crafted.

Definitely pick this up!

I’ve seen nothing but good reviews for Unromance and I have to wholeheartedly agree.

I’ve been in a slump so I grabbed the audiobook which was delightful. I thoroughly enjoyed the narration.

Sawyer and Mason have a not so cute meet cute when they’re trapped in an elevator. They end up having a one night stand and then meeting again at a Christmas market. They make a plan to inspire her writing while she spoils romance/famous romantic tropes for Mason who is the ultimate romantic.

Every chapter starts with a romantic trope that they will spoil. I just loved this! Sawyer and Mason were hilarious together. I loved their banter and their chemistry. They had both been hurt before and I appreciated how they worked through this. I don’t love a third act breakout, but this made sense and I liked how they worked through it. This will make you want to curl up with your favorite romantic comedy with your favorite person.

This book was delightful! Sawyer is a jaded romance author, and Mason is an actor who is a hopeless romantic. Mason wants her help "ruining" romance for him so that he doesn't find himself falling fast and hard (again), only to be dumped. They go on a series of romantic adventures in an attempt to "ruin" them for Mason. They chemistry is undeniable, but the way these activities foster a friendship is even sweeter.

UNROMANCE follows Sawyer and Mason—one night stands turned friends—who team up to ruin romance. Recently dumped TV heartthrob Mason is a hopeless romantic. On top of that, his relationships are fleeting and continue to splash headlines. Desperate to stay single and out of the public eye, Mason enlists Sawyer, a jaded, best-selling romance author with writers block. Together they plot activities surrounding the genre’s most popular tropes. Sawyer hopes to gain inspiration from their list and cure her writers block, while Mason hopes to ruin romance. Will they both get what they want?

As many have said before me: this debut is a love letter to the romance genre! UNROMANCE full body leans into the genre’s most popular tropes—partly because Sawyer and Mason pick specific romantic moments to fulfill then ruin, partly because they were living out their own love story while denying their feelings for each other. The pacing in the middle of the book lost me for a bit. What shines most is the dry humor sprinkled throughout this novel—it had me cackling!

Overall, UNROMANCE is a novel after my romance loving heart. I am looking forward to what Erin Connor writes next!

Perfect for readers who enjoy:
+ all thing romance genre
+ books about books
+ one night stands to idiots to lovers
+ fans of dry humor

If you love 80s/90s romcom movies, you should definitely pick this one up! Thank you netgalley, read forever, and the author for my #gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I loved the premise of this one! I enjoyed that they wanted to “ruin” romance tropes for Mason while giving Sawyer inspiration for her book. It was fun to watch them to some cliche tropes/outings from romance novels with their own twist. I loved watching these two discover their feelings for each other even if they tried to deny it for a while.

This one is out now and you should definitely consider picking it up if you haven’t yet!

I had seen a couple friends mention how much they loved this book, and after reading the synopsis, knew I had to read it. I love the premise of an author and actor meeting in the most meet cute way. The one night stand and then meeting again is so fun, and created such great tension between the main characters. I also really enjoyed all the side characters we meet along the way. I didn’t necessarily relate to either of our main characters, but still was able to root for them and their happiness.

Now, while I had a good time reading this, I really struggled with the amount of times our FMC brings up her ex. I understand that relationship is what shaped how she is now, but I got so tired of seeing Sadie’s name. So much so that I searched the word in my Kindle, and it was mentioned 75 times. I don’t think there was a chapter she wasn’t specifically brought up. I don’t know if this is something that would bother anyone else, but I believe it affected my overall enjoyment of the book.

Cute Christmas time romance- one night stand to friends to lovers. Reminded me of a few other books I’ve read- Lovelight farms and beach read. Enjoyable but pretty average for its genre

Unromance by Erin Connor
Contemporary romantic comedy. HFN.
A meet-cute and they had the perfect one night fling. They know anything more will end with a breakup. She doesn’t believe in love. It’s all a scam. He’s a romantic and sees a future with every possible someone. A second accidental meeting and they agree to a series of non-dates to prove their belief is the correct. Their outings don’t have the intended results. First, they have fun and laughs together. Second, the outing have her feeling alive and able to write again, and he’s falling when he didn’t intend to.
Will their New Year’s Eve kiss be their end?

Sweet and steamy. Movie magic moments brought to life in unexpected ways.
Loved the continual movie quotes and excerpts and title headings with laughable percentages. Character descriptions are often incredibly pointed: the emerald, leaf-shaped pillows that were the closest Sawyer would ever get to keeping a plant alive.
Love books set in Chicago too as I try to figure out streets and locations. I have a restaurant I’ve never tried now on my list.
Family is poignant. I love the most they both had goals and didn’t change them because of their love. They figured out how to include the other.
Beautiful and bewitching and HFN.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley.

This was a cute rom-com for sure. You deal with most possible tropes found in rom-coms all in one book. From their initial meet-cute to the eventual grand gesture, this story both pokes fun at romance tropes AND shows us how they can reveal themselves in every day life. From meet-cute to one night stand and beyond, I found myself laughing out loud at so many parts of the story (the Christmas tree topper tops them all). Cinnamon roll swoony and banter that will have you sitting up and saying "why can't I be that witty?" Making a list and checking it twice, plenty of naughty and nice to feed your romance loving soul.

I never would have guessed that this was a debut novel if I hadn’t read that for myself. Long build up but worth it! Loved all the tropes and play on romance tropes throughout. Solid holiday read and wonderful story with some extra spice to sweeten the deal. Thank you to NetGalley for a chance to read and review this book.

All the romcom tropes you know and love in one spectacular book. Great characters with an ungodly amount of chemistry that they refuse to accept until the bitter end. I loved every single longing stare and tension filled dates.
