Thank you to NetGalley, Forever & Erin Connor for a chance to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

This is an easy five star rating for me. EASY. Tension, chemistry, banter, denial of feelings- truly everything I love and need in a romance. A subplot that I particularly loved was how we, as readers, got to see how movie adaptations can go sideways and be such a negative experience for our beloved authors.

While we shouldn't judge a book by the cover-- how stunning is this one!? I was soo giddy when I got to this scene because the cover just so perfectly captures it!

I just don't understand a January pub date. I will be posting about this book to my followers now, but also again next November/December. The holiday themed dates and just the bulk of the story taking place from right before Thanksgiving to New Years Day- this book is a Holiday mood reader's dream!

Firstly I am shocked that this is a debut novel. The writing in style was elevated yet still easy to read. The development of the main characters and secondary characters was so well timed and put together.

The premise of ruining all these romantic tropes was such a fun refreshing spin on the normal romcom novels. I think Erin did a fantastic job in the way she implemented each trope.

My only complaint is the inner dialogue of the FMC. She seemed to overthink things a lot. Which could be pretty true for normal life but it felt like it took a lot of time on the pages. I’m normally not into golden retriever MMCs but I LOVE Mason West(Alvarez lol). The letter he wrote made my heart literally flutter.

All in all I’m highly impressed my Erin Connor and I’ll be recommending this book to everyone.

This is a rom-com about rom-coms, featuring a jaded romance novelist and an actor who is a walking, talking, romance trope. It was kind of silly, in the way that most rom-coms are, but it wasn't cringey.

I loved all the little chapter blurbs for all the tropes, especially the plaid flannel one because it's science and therefore it's true.

And the tights scene 👀
That is going to live rent-free in my brain and I'm not mad about it. In fact, I would like to thank Erin for putting that into the universe.

This gave me all the feels and I had such a good time reading it. This goes on the shelf as one of those books that I immediately wanted to start over again because I wasn't ready to be done with it.

Erin Conner's debut takes the culmination of popular romance book tropes to the next level in this funny, charming story of a hopeless romantic and a talented romance writer with a writer's block.

The dialogue bounce between the two characters had me hooked right from the beginning. I loved how the fun banter that Erin Conner created for her characters were amplified by the special tidbits in this book like the chapter prologues with cute prologues of romance tropes. And good news to spicy readers! This book is spicy certified. There are some life changing scenarios that will never leave my mind. When picked up this book before my flight thinking that spicy usually only picks up around the mid-way point, I left the plane deeply regretting picking the aisle seat LOL (and I was only 30% in).

If you love:
- reading for the romcom tropes (meet-cutes, fateful encounters, fake dating-ish)
- watching Hallmark movies for the holidays
- writer x actor storyline
- a cinnamon roll, golden retriever, sunshine-est of the sunshines MMC
I think this book will be MUST read for you in 2025!

Thank you to Forever and NetGalley for an e-arc of this fantastic debut!

This book was cute, but it didn't particularly stand out to me in its own way. There wasn't really a WOW factor.

I thought it was cute that they went out on several trope-like dates, but I think because of this I really couldn't find the piece that made it really click for me.

This really did give chaotic bisexual energy, with the FMC not believing in love despite being a romance author.

If you want something cheesy but cute to pass the time, I would suggest giving this book a go!

after multiple attempts at reading- I have decided to DNF. I’m hoping to return to it in the future but right now i’m unable to connect with the author’s writing style.

incredible, amazing, show-stopping. a tale of two fools - who totally do not fall in love with each other - partake in romantic quests during christmas in chicago whilst all their friends and family members see right through them. i lovvvve it. and what pushes their romance story that much further is how it encapsulates the idea that you don't need to have your shit together, need to be perfect, or whatever asinine notions people sometimes create, before you believe you are worthy of an all-encompassing love. that's how sawyer lives, "when i have everything figured out and settled”. until mason crashes in and ruins it <3. he was honestly such a sweetheart, and the way their friendship develops is pure and true, just showcasing you can be 100% yourself and the adoration you swear you haven’t been craving.. sprouts. what a gem of a debut and so perfect for a january release. thank you to NetGalley, Forever, and Erin Connor for providing this eARC!

Romance fans...add this to your TBR!! I loved this debut rom com. It's such a fun tribute to 90s rom com movies and all the tropes. We have Sawyer, a romance writer with writers block and doesn't believe inn romance and Mason, a true romantic. They start off with a great meet cute and decide to help each other out.

There is just so many great moments and all the supporting characters added so much to the story. I could not put this down and devoured it.

Thank you @readforeverpub for a copy of this.

These IDIOTS. I love them so much.

Unromance is about Sawyer, a jaded romance author with writer’s block, and Mason, a hopeless romantic TV star who keeps getting his heart broken. Sawyer is struggling to write her book, and Mason wants romance ruined for him forever. After meeting in a temporarily stuck elevator, the two create a pact that they hope will help them each achieve their goals.

Each chapter is titled with a new trope. That trope coincides with the one Sawyer and Mason are either purposely challenging or unintentionally experiencing for themselves. The MCs set out to ruin these romantic stereotypes, but in the end, they only prove just how special they are. Erin Connor does this in such an endearing way that it makes you absolutely fall in love with the characters.

I will definitely be making an appreciation post sometime in the near future because I just can’t stop thinking about it!

This book is as tender as it is hilarious, as sweet as it is spicy. Add it to your TBR, preorder it - you will NOT regret it!!

Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for the early e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

I really liked this super trope-y romance. Sawyer and Mason are just going to hook up and be friends. She doesn't believe in romance and his is ONLY romance. So they make a list. As they should. Clearly proximity and tropes work against their goals and their chemistry wins. I was here for it. All in. Loved the ride.

It was well done and relatable and so much fun. It read fast and kept me engaged when I was sleepy and busy and bouncing from task to task. I definitely recommend.

This book takes the tried and true romance tropes, flips them on their head, and reminds us why we simp for them SO hard.

The banter was sassy and frequent. The hot tension between the characters was immediate (literally from page 1).

A true idiots to lovers, they were obsessed with each other since page 1 but it was a fun journey watching them trying to figure it out.

There’s a comfort in reading romances because of the predictability and the appearance of themes (tropes) and seeing how the author uses them. I will never be sick of romances because I LOVE watching how authors unfold a story relying on these.

This book was so unbelievably clever in that it threw all of the tropes in there and poked fun at them while also showing respect to why they work. Every thing was pitch perfect.

I loved watching Sawyer and Mason reluctantly fall in love. Who doesn’t love a book where he falls first? And he fell so hard. She did too but her fears and enormous baggage were so very real. I was excited to watch her unpack it all and allow herself some happiness.

While it did drag in some places. I still compulsively read this book quickly and couldn’t wait to get back to it when I was interrupted by things like work or responsibilities. I’ll have to now find everything she’s ever written.

Thank you to Grand Central Publishing for making this available, I appreciate being able to read this advanced copy!

In true romancelandia fashion, the jaded romance author gets stuck in an elevator with the newly single television darling and they have the "not-meet-cute" we all dream of. After they keep running into each other they see it as a sign to cure one another of their respective issues, her writer's block and his hopeless romanticism. Sawyer becomes the perfect romcom love interest, overloading Mason's life with different romance tropes and gestures so he becomes numb to them and hopefully drum up some inspiration for Sawyer's book that her editor is anxiously awaiting. Their two rules? No sex & no falling in love. As is to be expected, this ironclad plan is actually not that solid, and they are (against their will) falling for these tropes and each other.

This was cute! I loved the little tie in with the chapter headings and the different tropes they were exploring. The whole book was so fun, my only confusion is why is this not being released/marketed as a holiday read? 50% of the book takes place in December, before Christmas. It's not like Christmas was just a little background to what was going on, no they went to a Christmas market and shopping for a tree and even decorated it together?? The next 35% after that was from Christmas to New Years Day. This book is such a cute story, I just don't understand the publishing schedule for it. I feel like reading it in late November/throughout December is the perfect time of year to read this, not immediately after the holiday season. I'm just confused.

This book was so cute and charming, but not life changing enough to warrant 5 stars. I definitely recommend this to others, especially as a cute holiday read. I read this within one day, and it was worth the lack of sleep from staying up too late to finish lol.

Thank you to NetGalley and Forever for giving me an eArc in exchange for an honest review!

“What are you thinking about right now?”
“The Killers,” she mumbled into pillow. A surprised laugh bubbled out of Mason. “What?”
“It started out with a one-night stand, how did it end up like this?” she half sang, in her best impersonation of “Mr. Brightside.” 🤍

I am completely floored knowing this is Erin Connor’s debut into the author space. This was so well written from the pacing, the chapter titles, and the attention to details a reader would love. I laughed, I swooned, and honestly had so much fun with this book and these characters. I’ll absolutely be keeping up with the author and their author journey, because I can’t wait to see what comes next for them. Unromance follows a romance author, Sawyer and an actor, Mason. Sawyer and Mason have the perfect meet cute in an elevator and it leads to a spicy one night stand that’s supposed to stay a one night stand - that’s until they continuously run into each other. There’s so many moments in this but one specifically - the tights scene.. 😮‍💨 If you know, you know. If you don’t know, please find out. I was kicking my feet and giggling at Sawyer and Mason the entire time. Immediately add this to your TBR if you also love “pacts” or cheesy romcoms. This felt like such an easy read, and would make a flawless movie one day.

Thank you so much Erin Connor and Netgalley for the arc! Unromance by Erin Connor release January 14, 2025 and is available for preorder now on Amazon. 🤍

THE HOLIDAY ROMANCE OF MY DREAMS.

(This isn’t technically marketed as a holiday romance but it takes place around Christmas for most of the book so it’s a HOLIDAY ROMANCE TO ME!)

I adored this book. I was SO LUCKY to get a ARC through NetGalley and wow…. this book was everything I wanted in a rom com. I feel like it single handedly recharged my love for a classic, trope saturated, rom com that has you jumping up and down when they finally end up together at the end. I am BEGGING for this to be a film.

The banter was perfect, the “overuse” or romance tropes as part of the FUN FUN FUN plot had me kicking my feet, and it had the perfect amount of emotional character backstory and growth. I truly cannot find a reason to dislike this book and I need everyone reading this review to read it as soon as it comes out!!!!

Tropes galore and everything in between! I love how Mason was the one to fall first, and fall even harder. I loved how patient he was until his love for could no longer be pushed away for Sawyer. And as for Sawyer, heartbreak really does take a toll. But with all the messiness and flaws, it’s a delight to be seen and taken by the hand by someone who still shows up amidst the terrifying journey. Excellent debut, and even more excellent characters!

The premise sounded interesting but I wasn’t able to connect with either of the MC’s and I found this more predictable than I enjoy in a romance.

I wasn’t the right reader for this.

Unromance grabbed me by the ankle, put me on my ass and dragged me over to the romance section.
And I gladly let it happen.

Oh my GOD am I obsessed with these two!!

Sawyer and Mason - Mason and Sawyer. The progression of their relationship is so beautiful to see. This story is fresh, new, fun, warm and endearing. Unromance introduced me to me new favorite trope - idiots to lovers- and now theres no going back. There are so many things I could say to get you to read it but Unromance is best experienced for yourself.

I had the pleasure of reading Unromance way back when and now reading it again in physical format, actually in my hands, on paper just made it all that much more special. I loved it then and I love it now.

A special thank you to my dearest friend Erin Connor for not just letting me love this story and scream about it to anyone who will listen but also for including me in your acknowledgments. You'll always have me in your corner bestie.

New voice in romancelandia: Erin Connor!
A refreshing take on the proximity aspect, where Mason and Sawyer get together to dispel romantic notions in Mason's case, and spark creativity in Sawyer’s.
Mason and Sawyer started out as a one-night stand, and their agreement to be each other's cure turned into a slow-burn with them realizing that their attraction was more than just physical, and that they were truly themselves with each other.
Mason, especially, had me swooning. He was an absolute treasure! Mason and Sawyer were fun right from the beginning, and I wasn't expecting to be hit with the feels, but oh gosh! So many feels, sometimes heartbreaking, and all very real.
I went into Unromance hoping for fun (served), but I wasn't expecting to swoon as much as I did! <3
Erin Connor is an author you want to make sure to read! I loved her voice - it's fun, and flirty, and light-hearted, until she hits you with those intense moments. Loved this debut!

This was trope city and I loved it! The only part of this that I struggled with a little bit was the 3rd person POV. This seems to be happening a fair amount where authors are making the choice to tell them this way, and it isn't for me. But with that said-this one was so much fun that I didn't mind as much.

4.0/5.0
