This was definitely my type of book. I love ❤️ when I am hit from every turn with a plot or twist that I didn’t see coming. I loved this book.
This book was so exciting, as soon as I started I knew I was in for a thrilling ride and this book kept me hooked all the way through.
A twisty domestic drama with a mother-daughter pair who have, to put it mildly, poor judgement. Jules is miserable in her marriage, Leah has an encounter with a man who turns out to be her teacher. Both of them have troubles. Something about this one didn't sit well with me but I appreciate that others might enjoy it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookoture for the ARC
This was an enjoyable and fun thriller. It was fast-paced and explored complicated mother-daughter relationships and how far one is willing to go for the other. In the end who can you trust and what would you do for your family. I read it in one sitting and didn't see the ending coming.
A pacey read which tells the story of Jules, a married mother and her daughter Jules. The plot is very well-paced and the characters unfold well. Whilst the characters do have depth they do occasionally slip into two-dimensional goodies and baddies but overall are multi-demensional.
the twists are handled well and are well written which keeps you very engaged in the story. The complexity of teenage emotions are handled realistically and although can be frustrating, it does add to the tension of the plot. A solid thriller.
Sixteen year old Leah attends a music festival, lies about her age, gets high and sleep with a guy for the first time. On the first day of school, Leah finds out that her teacher is the guy she slept with! And now he knows Leah lied about her age.
Her mom, Jules, is in a loveless marriage and turns to an app for attention and has a one night stand in the bathroom with a man she meets at the bar.
The morning news is a reporting the death of a man. The man Leah has been dating.
Oh, so good. And then the twist and whoa. And then another twist. I could not put this one down, and actually did the laundry carrying my phone with me because I couldn’t stop reading. This one grabs you in the very first chapter.
RECOMMEND!
This was fantastic. I really enjoyed reading it and didn’t want to put it down. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC!
I thought I would love this book because the plot seemed so interesting. I love a good family drama. But this was to slow and dragged too much for me to enjoy. It need some editing, at least 100-150 pages could be left out and it would be a better experience.
4.5⭐️
This book was really good, thought in middle it gets a bit slow but later gets picked up. The ending i was not expecting to be turned out like that.
I would recommend everyone to read this book.
Thank you NetGalley and bookouture for giving me this opportunity to review this book!!
What a gripping read. I could not put it down. Was hooked from the beginning of the book to the end.
Thanks for the opportunity to review
This book was such a whirlwind of emotion. What starts as a young girl with infatuation issues will make you second guess everyone. When you think that you have something figured out, nope you are wrong. Fantastic writing.
My daughter’s revenge was fab! I don't wanna be dramatic, but this book was effing brilliant. Could not recommend it more! Have never read a book so fast!
So gripping and so dark. Had to stay up very late to finish it - I inhaled it
I had the opportunity to do an advanced read of "My Daughter’s Revenge" thanks to NetGalley. Initially, I was unsure what to expect, but once I got a third of the way through, I found it impossible to put down. Natali Simmonds crafts an engaging narrative with two female leads: Jules, the mother, and Leah, the daughter. Initially, Jules's character puzzled me, and it took some time to fully grasp her complexities.
The twists in the final third of the book were particularly gripping, accelerating my reading pace significantly. I really appreciated how Simmonds developed her characters, making me both love and loathe them within the span of several chapters. This book is definitely worth a read, and I'm eager to see what Simmonds writes next.
An enjoyable read. Quite a slow burner and then it really picks up pace for the last 25%. Quite shocking at times and definitely some twists I didn't see coming. Not particularly likeable characters throughout but good to see how it all plays out.
This was ok, the ending was good but just a bit too much family drama, which isn't to my taste. Didn't really warm to any of the characters either.
A great read. The plot is well written by an author who has found the right balance when it come to the spicier parts of the story.
The plot is unpredictability, even though I thought I knew what was going to happen a few time, I was wrong.
But then, when people make bad decisions, things do tend to get a bit unpredictable
A great story with great characters brilliantly written
Loved it
I am mindblown. I did not expect ANY OF THIS to happen. Truly makes you stay on the edge of your seat. 60-70% of it is the lead up to what's going on. Then boom the author hits you left and right with twist after twist. I truly loved how this played out. I was SHOCKED by the ending. A truly remarkable book with amazing writing by Natali Simmonds. You will NOT expect the twists and love every minute of it like i did. 5 stars!
I received this ARC from NetGalley and Bookouture to read/review. All of the statements above are my true opinions after fully reading this book.
I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I was blown away by Simmonds' first book last year. I think the writing is even stronger in this book. We get mostly two points of view, mother Jules and daughter Leah. Jules has been married 25 years, and her husband has grown distant from her. It's natural for married couples to go through bad patches. Jules' daughter Leah is nearly 17 and wants very badly to become a woman. She wants to have a boyfriend and have sex. Desire is a key theme in the book, but desire can go wrong very quickly.
Leah is intent on losing her virginity at a music festival she attends with her friends and older brother, Reece. Was his name an intentional inside joke? Leah finds a willing guy. Then she starts school (I'm guessing 6th form is equivalent to a high school senior?) and meets her new art teacher. This part was a little predictable, but how the teacher reacted was not.
Meanwhile, Jules has started going on an app called Kandid that her friend Lyndsey was telling her about, where people confess their secrets anonymously. She confesses that her husband hasn't touched her in 14 months, following her mother's death from dementia and cancer. She posts a sexy picture without her face and starts getting a load of private messages from admirers and trolls. She starts talking to someone called Curious 2. Soon, it seems like she's having an emotional affair with a stranger online. Meanwhile, there's stories in the news about scams to rip off lonely rich women of their savings. She's teetering on the edge, being ignored at home and work, and made to feel irrevelent as a middle-aged mom.
Leah's receiving threatening notes about her dalliance with her teacher. She's got an obsessive personality with stalker tendencies. But the teacher is far from innocent.
I mostly enjoyed this book with the back and forth between Jules and Leah and a surprise at the end. The pacing was good, although slightly slow after the beginning. There's no sexual assault but it would be considered to be statutory in the United States, I'm not sure about the UK. There's also recreational drug use. This book is available on August 14th. 4/5☆
This was an interesting thriller that while it kept me going, there were times when I felt like the writing/story was lacking. It was not a spectacular read but it wasn't a bad one either. The mother wasn't a great character, in my opinion.
I dnf'd this book on the first few pages. I just really wish authors would leave out sexual content that isn't needed in books.
