This book was good fun - it is actually made up of three little stories!

It was well written, had some great illustrations and it was fun.

I read the book with my now 7 year old daughter and she loved it.
It was a book she read to me and she didn't struggle or get stuck on any of the words.

It is 4 stars from me for this one – very highly recommended!

Three short stories make up this longer picture book, illustrated with Well’s signature watercolor and ink artwork featuring animals, such as cats and rabbits, dressed in clothing. In the first story, young Sylvie tries to make dinner for her working mother but makes a mess. A crew of small chefs come in to help; they are humans (not animals) similar to the elves in the classic “Shoemaker and the Elves” folktale. In the second, Leo is helped by the chefs to make French toast, and in the third, the chefs make a birthday cake for Oscar’s sister. The text is unusual in that the main portion is in prose, but the chefs’ portion is in rhyme, which makes it somewhat disjointed. Each story is introduced with a brief fact on chefs who saved the day for historical figures like a President or Shakespeare. This seems best suited to use with primary graders moving up from beginning reader books to simple transitional fiction chapter books. Review based on an ARC.

Little Chefs just made my littles night! He absolutely loved it and immediately asked for it “again again”.
How can one not love a sweet story about tiny meal saving little chefs, especially if Rosemary Wells is the creator?!
This will be a bedtime staple for sure!
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC!

Three short stories about children trying to cook for their parents/siblings. It all goes wrong and they have to call the Little Chefs. Tiny people who come and cook for you when you’ve had a disaster.
Very cute but not my cup of tea. I liked the historical prefaces best.

Written and illustrated by Rosemary Wells (who is best known for the Max and Ruby books) brings us a new three story book destined to be a classic. Children and adults will adore this sweet book.

Knowing this is Rosemary Wells, I expected nothing less than another perfectly adorable story (or in this case, three.) This was a captivating look at the magical, helpful 'little chefs' who show up when we less-experienced cooks need them! In some ways, it felt reminiscent of Maurice Sendak's 'In The Night Kitchen' and the two could definitely work as a companion read. I loved it!

I am a mother of seven and retired preschool teacher who loves children's books and Rosemary Wells is by far one of my favorites! When I saw she had a new book coming out, I couldn't wait to read it. And this is three stories in one - so even better! It's about little chefs who come and help kids out of cooking dilemmas and has all of the charm and adorable illustrations I've come to love from Wells. 5 stars!

A great little book to introduce littles to history. Rosemary Wells is always able to write so readers can comprehend a story easily.

This would be a suitable book for a family to read together, especially if they enjoyed spending time together baking or cooking.

The cute characters paired with the quaint illustrations made this a cozy read. The historical profiles at the beginning of each chapter are MUCH too complex for the intended audience to comprehend.

Cute! I liked this book, but only 1/3 of it. Allow me to explain. I think that this book could have been great with just one of the stories. This is because all of the stories were basically the same, just different dishes and rhymes and characters. I would have chosen one of these stories and added a little more to it, getting rid of the other two. While the repetition does make a motif that young readers can recognize and latch on to, it does still get boring. That aside, I thought that the idea and the story were really cute and unique, too. It's like a revamped version of The Elves and the Shoemaker. The plot made sense and it had a lot of creativity and wonder in it, perfect for a kids' book. The last thing that was perfect was the illustrations. They were soft and simple, yet still highly detailed. They worked great together with the story and the words, and clicked with the overall tone of the book. These illustrations will no doubt keep kids engaged with the stories and make for a fun reading experience.
Bravo!

The Little Chefs is an adorable picture book about a group of tiny chefs that come to the rescue when recipes go wrong. I LOVED this one. It was a super sweet, easy read and felt like an adaption of the Elves & the Shoemaker lore.

The illustrations were very cute. I especially loved the "historical excerpts" before each story that showed how people in history had been helped by the little chefs.

Thanks to NetGalley, Rosemary Wells, and Astra Publishing for the chance to read and review
