We Three Queens, the latest installment of Her Royal Spyness series by Rhys Bowen, is a captivating read. Set in 1036, just before her cousin King Edward abdicates the throne, Lady Georgiana's tranquil country life is upended. She finds herself dealing with unwanted house guests and an American film crew and actors. Kidnapping, murder and of course her cousin's dillemma all make for a very entertaining read.

Fans of this skillfully written historical cozy series will be delighted with this latest entry. Georgie, 34th in line for the English throne, is happily settled into domesticy with her husband Darcy and son James when her cousin "David," King Edward, asks her to allow his paramour, the notorious Wallis Simpson, to hide out from the press at Georgie's godfather's estate. This would be difficult enough, given Mrs. Simpson's prickly nature, but unbeknowst to Georgie, a American film crew is about to descend upon them with all the accompanying chaos movie-making entails.

Just when Georgie begins to think she can keep all of this mayhem under control, Mrs. Simpson disappears, the Shirley Temple-esque star of the movie is apparently kidnapped, and one of the film's stars is found murdered. As always, Georgie and Darcy put their heads together to try to solve this trio of mysteries with many twists and turns and red herrings along the way. Series regulars are present for moral support, and actual historial figures and events add verisimilitude as the storm clouds of WWII gather.

An entertaining entry in this sparkling, well-crafted series.

Full Disclosure--NetGalley and the publisher provided me with a digital ARC of this book. This is my honest review.
