Oh my goodness, this book. This was such a thought provoking book. I couldnt put it down. So emotional. I felt everything the mother was going through. It covers a strong theme of forgiveness. Highly recommend.

While this book was a fast and easy flowing novel, I can't say that I loved it. I found it wrapped up too neatly and overall too happy for such a heavy and serious topic.

The Songs of My Family by Jillian Arena presents a profound exploration of the human condition through the narrative of Myra Jenkins. The story unfolds as Myra's idyllic life is irrevocably altered by a tragic automobile accident that claims the lives of a couple. The ensuing struggle with guilt and isolation propels Myra into an unexpected connection with the couple's three children. Initially marked by their resentment, the children ultimately seek Myra's assistance in an extraordinary act of kindness, which catalyzes a critical turning point for both Myra and the children.
This encounter initiates a shared journey characterized by healing, resilience, and the rediscovery of hope amidst their collective sorrow. The narrative intricately weaves themes of love, second chances, and the intricate dynamics of human relationships. Myra is depicted as a resilient and empathetic figure, navigating the complexities of her circumstances while endeavoring to repair fractured relationships and cultivate mutual understanding. Arena's prose adeptly encapsulates the emotional intricacies of the characters and the transformative potential inherent in empathy. The text ultimately encourages readers to recognize the beauty that can emerge from life's most challenging experiences. This uplifting narrative serves as a poignant reminder of the capacity for personal growth and renewed hope in the aftermath of adversity.

Myra's life is torn apart following an accident in which two people were killed. Her marriage falls apart, her children suffer and she loses her job. Full of guilt, she tries to help but only makes things worse. When the eldest of the Garcia's children turns up on her doorstep asking for help she recognises that this is her chance to atone and agrees to adopt the three children in order to stop them being separated in the care system. This was an emotional rollercoaster of a read - despair, hatred, hope, love all spill over into the novel. A heartwarming read and well worth a few hours of anyone's time.

Myra Jenkins' journey through guilt and grief is deeply moving, and the way the story unfolds kept me hooked until the very end. What I enjoyed most about reading it was how authentically the characters' emotions were portrayed—it felt like I was right there with them, experiencing every moment of their struggles and triumphs.

I received an arc copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. This is a story about forgiveness and bringing two families together after a tragedy. I really enjoyed the storyline and the characters. I am not a fan of the curse words and I would have given this book 5 starts if it wasn't for them.
