Read if you like: city girl fmc, cowboy mmc, fake dating/engagement, reality tv show, twin swap, forced proximity, opposites attract, only one bungalow, emotionally unavailable fmc, push and pull
Sam is feisty, confident, and emotionally unavailable. Cooper is flirtatious and went as far as going on a reality tv show to save his ranch.
This book had me feeling like I was intruding 🥵🔥 their chemistry was hot!
Their banter was somehow funny and flirty, Cooper purposely riles Sam up and I loved it. However, Sam could be super mean and cold at times 😭 I felt bad for Cooper because he was giving golden retriever energy and she was an ice queen.
Idk how he was so into her because she gave him NOTHING!! I hated the fact that he had to chase her and would always make the first move. It felt like a very one sided “relationship”
The more I think about it the more I don’t think I actually like Sam 😂😭 she ran away from everything. Communication?? Clearly not in her vocabulary because she never discussed anything serious, avoided conversations and set rules so she didn’t have to face her feelings. She doesn’t seem mature at all.
Despite all of this, the ending was cute. I love that they got a happily ever after. I love Cooper. I enjoyed Kay Marie’s writing, and will definitely be picking up her future books.
This book was cute! It took a bit to get into but once I did, I was hooked! Would have liked a little more spice but overall I’d say a solid 3!
Yaaaas! We finally get the other twins story! I loved the first book in this series and couldn’t wait to see what happened from the cliffhanger of the twin switch. This was everything! I love this authors way of writing! Favourite author podium for sure
The Love Rematch was one of my favorites reads of 2023, and after the ending, I couldn't wait for this book and to see more of Sam. While book 1 as a whole was my favorite, I adore Sam.
I felt like the first 40% of this book was so focused on insta-lust and Sam wanting to push Cooper away, that I struggled to find any true connection between the two of them, and was desperate to get inside of Sam's head. Once things started to focus more on why Sam was the way that she was - her motivations for denying her own happiness and her fear of falling in love, the book really came together.
I also loved the role Nina played in this book and enjoyed her random and often poorly or perfectly timed interruptions.
I had a hard time following/understanding the plot but the overall concept and writing was good. I cannot provide a full review as I did not finish reading the story.
I love how fun and sweet they are to each other, how they just were unabashedly themselves and the writing just draws you in, and makes you feel like you’re right there with them! I just smiled and was so happy and laughed so much through this book! I needed it! There was emotion and connection too but oh the BANTER! So much! Ugh I would gobble up so much of it! Did I mention the MMC is a cowboy? Oh sweet Cooper, cowboy man take me away… and ahhh he’s so in love with her. Swoon! His nickname for her! Ahh it so fitting and so cute and cheeky! Just when he can’t get any hotter… just wait!! He’s a… hehe read and find out! Such an enjoyable, TRULY JOYFUL, heart full feeling read! SO GIDDY during this book!
This was my first ARC and it was a success. It has me giggling and kicking my feet. Sam is so stubborn and I loved her for it and Cooper… swoon!!! Definitely worth the read. Can’t wait until everyone can read this when it gets published.
P.S. the Shania Twain parts absolutely killed me hahaha!
It took me a while to get into this book, but once I did, I had so much fun! I definitely enjoyed this book more than the first and that is all because of our two leads, Sam and Cooper. They were just so entertaining and likeable. They had great chemistry from the start (a bit of insta-lust?) and their playfulness and banter won me over. I admired Sam’s strength and I gushed over Cooper’s devotion to Sam. They were characters that were great on their own, but amazing together.
Me desesperó Sam.
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was such a sweet book.
A light hearted read with some serious content.
I actually laughed out loud at some parts.
Could see this becoming a rom-come movie
Opposite Attract
Fake cowboy romance engagement
Twin-swap
Forced Proximity
Dual POvs
Sam is supposed to turn down Cooper on the Reality show #TheLoveMatch after she swapped with her sister. Easy peasy right 🫠 however, the second she meets Cooper she's hooked and lusting after him and finding her self saying YES!! Opps 🤭. So now they have to pretend to be engaged in front of the producers for 5 days then they can go on their separate ways and call it off later.
Simple plan but life is not always that simple.
As you can see, the story has great potential and I was so excited about it BUT, I didn't enjoy it as the 1st book in the series. The first half drove me crazy coz I hate insta-lust troop or insta-love and they were like Im attracted to you but I don't want to come near you 🙃🙃🙃 frustrating right?!!!
So yeah not my favorite but it's worth giving a shot if you like these troops.
Thank you to @netgalley and the publisher for granting me an ARC of #TheLoveLie in exchange for my honest review.

3.5 Stars
It took me a while to get into this book, I actually took a break and came back to it. It started and kind of drug, but also moved fast? I think the beginning/set up was just a bit predictable, but then once it picked up and built some intrigue I was into the plot a lot more.
I liked the twin swap storyline a lot, especially as it evolved over time. The way that was written was a lot of fun and had me giggling. I also liked Cooper a lot, but I never pictured him as the redhead he was originally described as. Definitely more Glen Powell vibes.
The story picked up and I liked how it played out. The tension was hot but the spice was low (as advertised in Kay's author bio). It was cute, but didn't grab my attention like I expected it to. It was easy to follow and pick up after a break, with a fun storyline and loveable characters. Wes and Winnie were definitely my favorites!!!
3.5 Sam takes the place of her twin sister on a dating show with the intention of not accepting the leads proposal....what could go wrong?
Everything in all best ways.
I loved the banter. It was super fun. I felt like the main character truly understood each other and should be together. Wish I could have seen more interaction with Cooper and his Dad.
Cons....the beginning of this book was chaotic and there was a lot of info dump. I almost DNF, but I glad I kept on reading it.
I would totally read the next book.
If you love fake engagements, dating shows, twin swaps and cowboy and city girl stories... This is the book you need.
The story is so fun, there is spice, a little bit of drama and a lot of humor.
I am obsessed with this book!
Thanks to Netgalley for letting me read the ARC and to Kay Marie for writing such a fun story 🥰
If you liked The True Love Experiment by Christina Lauren or The Unhoneymooners by the same author, you'll love this!
This is a strangers to lovers, city girl + farm boy/cowboy and a fake engagement kind of story. And it's a funny one! Oh, and the tension! Good lord!
Sam and Cooper both compete in a dating show. Or at least.. Sam swapped the position of Cooper his fiancee with her identical twin sister Emily due to unforeseen circumstances.
They go spend a couple of days together to get to know each other a little bit better. And things get a little frisky.
Turns out, they both are smitten towards each other. But they don’t want to admit it towards each other. Which is surprisingly funny.
Okay… hear me out. This ending! This FREAKING ending! AAAAAAH!! I was gasping and jumping and kicking my feet like there was no tomorrow.
Thank you NetGalley and Kay Marie for the opportunity to read this book. I hadn't read the first book, but it didn't matter - this was such a delight.
I loved the romance, the story of the other sister being his perfect match and the whole cowboy meets high flying city woman. It was perfect.
The character growth from both of main characters was great and I laughed out loud a lot reading this book.
Such a fun book, with a little spice and some swoon worthy moments. I especially loved it every time our FMC stood up for her cowboy, like when his dad made some comments about him not being around. I also loved that he randomly could fly a helicopter, all those seconds count when racing the film crews.
The story also ended well with a really nice and well planned out epilogue!
4/5 stars!
For my first cowboy novel I loved the chemistry between these two. The story felt. nice and quick paced, and ever though I hadn't read the first book I didn't feel lost getting through this one. I loved the twist at the end on the live show, but I do wish we had a little more time focused on seeing how Sam talked to Emily about everything and how they both opened up since that was a major point in the book and a large part of Sam's character!
Kay Marie's The Love Lie is perfect for fans of Christina Lauren and Lyla Sage! What's better than a secluded beach getaway, a sexy cowboy and swoonworthy banter? Not much...so you should definitely read this!

🎯 What I loved: This was such a fun follow up to The Love Rematch! There was quick chemistry between Cooper and Sam and they had great banter. The two primary settings- The Maldives and Nebraska were drastically different but beautifully described and I adored the hilarious text threads between Sam and Cooper while they were apart. I honestly wish we had gotten more of these! Overall, this was a quick, flirty read and I have a feeling we're going to see a book 3 with Winnie and Tyler so the fun can continue...fingers crossed! I also definitely recommend reading the first book in this series before The Love Lie as there is A LOT of context that you'll need to understand what's happening when the story kicks off.
🙅♀️ What I didn't: I felt like this was missing some of the depth of the first book in the series and Sam's hesitations for wanting to be in a relationship were a little strange. There was definite potential for more drama with her ex and workplace that seemed like it would have added some closure to the story.

The main characters meet on a dating show, after the female main character switches places with her identical twin. He's a cowboy and she's a city girl. This is a light, fun read.
This was cute! I enjoyed the first book in this series and this was no different. There was plenty of funny banter, sweet moments and scenery that made me want to go and wallow in the crystal clear waters off a tropical island.
I loved Sam, the FMC, and Cooper was perfect for her. He was attentive and sincere while also being fun and pushing Sam out of her comfort zone. I enjoyed it, it was a good time.
