An sweet story and an easy read for a quiet afternoon. Violet’s family died, leaving her an incredible fortune, so she is in need of a husband to guard her from fortune hunters. She’s introduced to Philip Markham, a very honorable and friendly man. They are both very sensible and honorable, so they marry and easily settle into married life. By now I was expecting some kind of plot twist or angst, but there’s none. There is an unexpected twist but it’s all good. There isn’t much depth or character development but there is love, wisdom and humor. The characters are sweet and likable. And they definitely lived happily ever after.
This is my first book by Laura Landon and I will definitely check out her other books.

I enjoyed the story of two people brought together by necessity but held together by love. Violet is an heiress who considers herself plain and only her money to recommend her. Phillip is a former soldier turned earl with inherited debt. This is really a feel good story without a lot of drama, I found myself pulling for the characters and liked reading about the life they built together.

3.25 stars. This is a short, sweet entry in the Lyon's Den series that works fine as a standalone. While I found myself rooting for the main characters' HEA, there wasn't a lot of extended tension or character development, with everything seeming to fall into place plot-wise. This was actually a bit too low angst for me.

This passionate love story is something that make me dream and enjoy. Wonderfully writen, lovely characters, captivating from the very beginning to finish.

This is one of those books I wish had been longer. It was shorter than most Lyon's Den stories probably because it's meant to be more of a novella within the author's Willowbrook series. We got a brief introduction to Violet in "A Lesson Learned" and the part of her story involving her brother's actions that led to his downfall are also a part of that book. I enjoyed getting to meet Violet and learn more about her. I was a little disappointed that because this book is so short I never got to see the change in Violet occur over time - everything happens so quickly here that the development just occurs from one page to the next. The same goes for Phillip - he starts out not believing he would ever marry to offering for Violet to being in love with her and completely happy. The twist involving Violet's father comes out of nowhere and just seems there to give Violet even more of a happy ending. The connection to the Lyon's Den series is minimal as well, Violet goes to Bessie Dove-Lyon and the within about 10 pages has her husband. This is more like the main plot points in a story outline rather than a fully fleshed-out novel. It's still a sweet romance that I enjoyed reading (hence the 4-star rating) - I just wanted more of it.

It’s a wonderful story with a unique twist for a hasty marriage but then Mrs. Dove-Lyon has never disappointed me. I love how the numerous authors have carried on her ability as matchmaker. Lettie and Markham each have their owns reason to agree to this marriage but in the end they have their HEA. The story is well written and very entertaining. It’s a great addition to The Lyon’s Den Connected World series and one I would highly recommend.

Thank you NetGalley. I love these Lyon's Den books and this was a fast read. Violet's family has drown at sea and she is the only one left. Her father has left most of the money with her while they planned to settle in America. She is quite wealthy and the unmarried of the Ton knows it and is after her money. She goes to Mrs. Dove-Lyon for help to find a husband to protect her from that mob. The Major has just come back from the war and his father and brother have died leaving him in debt. Mrs. Dove-Lyon holds his debts and though he does not want to marry she talks him into listening to Violet and her offer. They marry after meeting for two days. Do they find love and all they wanted, a good read to find out.

Phillip comes home from the war to find himself the new Duke of Markham but the estates are impoverished.
Violet (Lettie) is plain and not sought after in marriage until she finds herself rich beyond belief.
Bessie Dove-Lyons works to put these two together despite their misgivings.
A lovely read with some surprises.
The epilogue is perfect.
Fun and easy in one sitting with a cup of coffee.

A very sweet Lyon’s Den tale of an exceptionally rich woman, Lettie and Phillip, the man desperately in need of funds. There is only a slight angst to this story, but not boring as one would think. It was interesting to see how they met, and worked out how their marriage would go. The surprise at the end was adorably sweet and a child’s faith got the answer they wanted. This is a very calming story, an easy read and very touching
