I really enjoy reading the books in this series. Although each book is written by a different author, they all follow the central theme of Mrs. Dove-Lyon and her matching efforts. This book is by a new-to-me author, but was also just as enjoyable as it too, followed the general theme.
Philip returns home from the war to learn that he is now the new Duke of Markham. He is left with an enormous amount of debt and even selling everything he has would not help him in saving his beloved grandmother's home. He has no choice but to find a wealthy lady to marry if he has any hope of saving any of his property. Violet comes into a vast amount of wealth when her family dies aboard a ship headed for America. Inevitably, she is hounded by suitors who are only interested in her for her money. She wants to marry someone who will use her money for good, so she goes to Mrs. Dove-Lyon for help and is introduced to Philip. Violet is a plain lady, not possessing any extraordinary beauty, while Philip is the most handsome man she has seen. Although he certainly needs her wealth to save his inheritance, he sees Violet for the intelligent and caring woman that she is and finds the beauty hidden beneath. These were both lovely, well-developed characters and I was immediately endeared to them. This was a lovely, well-written romance and my introduction to a new author I definitely plan to read more of!

Saved by the Lyon is an enjoyable joyable short story, with a story line that kept me interested right to the end and wanting more. Laura Landon has filled it with likeable characters, with enjoyable plot and dialogue bring this read together perfectly.
I received a ARC copy from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
I like Lady Violet. She is a wealthy heiress whose family recently died and she knows it is only a matter of time before someone compromises her and forces her to marry. So she decides to take matters in her own hands. She approaches Mrs. Dove-Lyon for help in finding a suitable husband. She has a few demands though, having the money put to good use, children and an ordinary looking husband so that her own plainness is not so obvious. Well, most of the criteria are met. Just the one Mrs. Dove-Lyon picks is the most handsome man in the ton. But he has his own pride even though marrying someone wealthy is the only way to save his beloved home. Can two people who have their own burdens manage to find love?
There a sweet romance here between two people who were always put in a box by some of the people around them. Those burdens can be a barrier to love, but so can preconceived notions about others. A touch of danger adds a bit of spice.
Very enjoyable. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.
Such a great read! Highly recommend this one.
Many thanks to the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
There were some glaring errors in this book that could have been fixed with a simple Google search, so that was disappointing. Firstly, the dates for the war mentioned in the book were wrong, and the main character twice refers to Her Majesty's Army, even though Elizabeth I and Victoria weren't a part of that war, neither was Elizabeth II.
The blurb also says the main character is a Duke, yet in the book he is repeatedly called an Earl. So, not sure which one he is meant to be.
Lastly, the description of the Lyons Den and Mrs Dove-Lyon are different in this book than in any book in this series, which is odd.
If you can get past these errors it is a fairly enjoyable read.

Lady Violet Slushman's family dies on the way to America and Violet is left a very wealthy heiress. This causes fortune hunters to constantly seek her out to press their suits. In her desperation she turns to Mrs. Bessie Dove-Lyon for help.
Major Phillip Eversley returns from war to find his father and brother have both died and he is the Duke of Markham. He also finds the estates in such trouble, even selling the unentailed property won't help.
I loved this story, the bringing together of two great and honorable characters. Phillip feels guilty for marrying for money. Violet is very intelligent and her father trained her in financial affairs.
When Lady Violet Slushman’s family dies on the way to America, she is left a very wealthy woman. This, believe it or not, causes problems. Suitors, after her money of course, have lined up down the street in front of her home. She turns to Bessie Dove-Lyon, proprietress of the Lyon’s Den and match-maker extraordinaire. Major Philip Eversley comes home from the war to find both his father and older brother are dead and he is the Duke of Markham. With the title comes a mountain of crushing debt. When he meets her at the Lyon’s Den, Mrs. Dove Lyon gives him little choice but to wed Lettie. Phillip and Lettie are intelligent, forward thinking and caring, and make a perfect pair. This is a quick read with a surprise or two. The romance turns out to be something special.

4 stars
A Clean romance. The heroine feels plain and unattractive. Her family is lost at sea including her beloved Papa and the much more attractive younger sister. Papa has left her lots of money having sold everything and then planned to emigrate to the states. That was one of the anomalies I didn't like....the brother was apparently disgraced over making some maids pregnant and sent to the workhouse for a month? This I found incredulous, first in those days who would legislate against the brother and second what sort of punishment would be the workhouse for a month when that would be full of poor people and there's no downside as he'd return to his place in society.
Having suddenly having been made an heiress and to protect the fortune, Violet realises that she needs a husband. But she wants a good plain one that's not going to waste the money. She takes herself off to see Mrs Bessie Dove-Lyons who finds her the most handsome man possible. It does work out OK Though I subsequently found the number of babies in the following twelve years in the epilogue surprising : Rebecca Thomas his 4 brothers and then the twins and God and his blessings turns up at the end It also seemed a shame that they didn't name Thomas after the twin that lost his life saving the major.
Another anomolie had our Major fighting for the Queen? but this was supposed to be set in Napoleonic times so it would have been George the Regent.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
Saving the Duke
Phillip's father and brother left him in debt, but he did not want to marry for a dowry. However, Mrs. Dove-Lyon needed to make a match, and she was not about to let Phillip’s scruples get in her way.
Violet’s father left her a very wealthy woman, bringing men out of the woodwork to court her. She wanted none of them, so she sought the help of Mrs. Dove-Lyon. She was looking for a man to take care of her wealth and keep the vultures away from her doorstep. Mrs. Dove-Lyon would bring Phillip and Violet together. Neither was expecting love, but could they find it? I enjoyed this heartwarming historical romance and would recommend it.
Enjoyable story. Violet has spent years listening to her mother compare her to her sister and find her wanting. A family scandal caused her parents and sister to depart England for America, leaving Violet behind. When their ship went down, it left Violet a very wealthy woman and the target of every fortune hunter in London. Violet took matters into her own hands and asked Mrs. Dove-Lyon to help her find a suitable husband.
Phillip returned to London from the war after the deaths of his father and brother. He is now the Earl of Markham and finds that they left the estate in so much debt there is no way for him to recover. His only option is to marry a wealthy woman. That is something he is reluctant to do until Mrs. Dove-Lyon summons him.
I liked Violet and Phillip. Both are kind and honorable and were outcasts in their own families. Violet is intelligent and was trained in financial management by her father, leaving her in an excellent position to manage her inherited wealth. Phillip feels guilty about his need to marry money until he talks to Violet and learns about her issues. Though neither is in love when they marry, they form a quick friendship and make excellent partners in managing his estates.
I loved watching their relationship develop as they got to know each other. It was a slow but sweet buildup filled with kindness, humor, and understanding. There was a scene with someone from Phillip's past that had a surprise ending and a twist at the end that surprised me. The epilogue was terrific.
Buying A Husband
I liked this easy-flowing, sweet marriage of convenience story with very likable characters. Their relationship was right from the start with mutual respect, understanding and compassion.
Phillip Eversley, Earl of Markham, a former army Major was wounded in the war against Napoleon. When he returns home to England, he realizes that his late father and also deceased older brother have brought the family estate to the brink of ruin with their loose lifestyle and his options to save the estate are either to marry a rich heiress or to sell everything to pay off his gambling debts.
Due to her late brother’s behavior and scandal in the past, Lady Violet Slushman’s family was ostracized by society and her family decided to start a new life in America. Violet, a plain spinster, remained in England.
When her family dies in a shipwreck during the crossing, she is left alone and suddenly a rich heiress.
In order not to be compromised by an unscrupulous fortune hunter, Violet decides to buy herself a suitable husband and asks Bessie Dove-Lyon for help, who introduces her to Phillip…
If you like sweet and quick to read historical romance novels, you will enjoy this book!
Saved by the Lyon by Laura Landon is part of the Lyon’s Den Connected World. First comment: never before have I heard Mrs. Dove-Lyon issue a threat as she did to Phillip Eversley, Earl of Markham, when she told him that she would foreclose on his favorite property if he did not marry Lady Violet Slushman. That is not her style. That being said, Lady Violet came to Mrs. Dove-Lyon, not because she had no suitors, but because she had far too many of them. The minute the amount of her inheritance became public they began to appear. She knew it was just a matter of time before one managed to compromise her and force her into a marriage she didn’t want. Lord Markham had severe financial problems that could be solved only by marrying a wealthy woman or sell off everything he owned. He wasn’t happy with either scenario. He agreed to meet her, having no expectations. He met woman who had low self-esteem and more than enough money to solve his problems. She had a few requirements, including children. She seemed straight forward. He thought on it and decided to get a special license. He liked her.
Phillip had been a soldier, a good one. His father and brother had gambled the estate into bankruptcy. He was an honorable man and didn’t really want to saddle a woman with his debts. Violet believed herself to be the ugly duckling of her family. They were both raised on the periphery. It was the first of many things they had in common. Both were sympathetic characters and made the reader hope for love, which neither one expected. It was a fun, short book. A decent plot and lots of feels. Thanks Laura Landon for an entertaining read.
I was invited to read Saved by the Lyon by Dragonblade. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #Dragonblade #LauraLandon #SavedByTheLyon
Lady Violet, aka Lettie, stayed in England as her family set out for a fresh start in America after a family scandal. Unfortunately her family perished and she became an incredibly rich orphan.
Phillip, returned from fighting Napoleon and after his father and brother died became the Earl of Markham with far more debt than one could manage.
With unsavory suitors banging down her door, Lettie turned to the Black Widow of Whitehall, gaming hall owner, for advice. Bargains are struck and Phillip and Lettie are married.
This novella had a touch of passion but was too saccharinely sweet for me. I also struggled with Lettie’s description of herself. There was a hint on conflict to come, but it just fizzled out. If you’re looking for a sweet, non- climatic, low angst old time love story- this is for you.
Thank you NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
With this visit to the Lyon's Den world our heroine needs someone to protect her from the fortune hunters. Someone who will respect her conditions.
Our battle weary hero has returned from war to find his estate in debt because his father and brother gambled it away before they died.
A sweet story that shows that beauty is not always necessary. Intelligence is much more attractive.
Fascinating characters that are easy to love.
Good fun.
Agreements, Marriage, Sweet Love:
A traumatic beginning that had me hopeful for another exciting Dove Lyon story but I'm afraid it's lacking in passion had me fairly disappointed. It is a short, sweet story that was enjoyable to read.
Mrs. Lady Dove Lyon comes to the rescue again and helps two people come together for a love match.
The story is fairly predictable, along with a couple of nice surprises and a wonderful heartfelt epilogue.
My rating for the story is a 3.5 rounded up to 4. It could have received a better rating if the romance had any simmering passion. Sad to say it fell flat in the amorous department. Not the usual Lyon's Den story. A few passionate kisses were pretty much it.
I've really enjoyed this whole line of Lyon stories. This one was very enjoyable. The story was well written and each character so well described. I will definitely be looking for more books from this author!
Aah! What a sweet, beautiful, romantic story. Violet is left without a family and has a fortune. Phillip has returned from the war only to find that his estates have been put into deep debt. With the help of Mrs. Dove-Lyon's, these two people come together. It's not based on enemies, friends or even alpha males. Instead it's based on two rather normal, gentle souls who find joy, laughter and love together. No steam, but a soft kind of magical connection that will last for years. A couple of surprises are included, it's a short story but very easy to read. Worthwhile.
Bedevilled heiress!
Sweet romance with just a smidgeon of danger. Lady Violet Slushman finds herself orphaned when the ship her parents and sister were traveling on to America was lost at sea. Violet is now a very wealthy heiress, alone in the world, and besieged by men who’d go to any lengths to make her fortune theirs.
Violet seeks the help of Mrs Dove-Lyon.
Major Phillip Eversley, second son of the Earl of Markham returns from fighting the French to find his father and brother dead and himself the heir to a pile of debts.
Mrs Dove-Lyon has a proposition should he care to accept it.
Violet has no illusions about her plain looks. Her mother has drummed that into her over the years. Marriage to Markham might be the right move to protect herself, but will that be all she can expect? Will Mrs Dove-Lyon’s solution be the right one for her?
An enjoyable, slightly predictable, read.
A Dragonblade ARC via NetGalley.
Many thanks to the author and publisher.

Lady Violet Slushman Has just found out she is almost Englands richest single woman. She needs someone who will protect and respect her.
The Major, duke now apparently feels like he is too wounded to get married just now. However when he meets Lady Slushman he changes his mind when he finds her surrounded by unwanted suitors outside of the Lyons Den.
I really enjoyed this ‘getting-to know-me’ romance. The surprises were exciting and the side storie were wonderful

Major Phillip Eversley returns from the war to discover his father and brother are both dead and he is now the Earl of Markham. He also discovers that before their deaths, they went so deeply into debt that even if Phillip sells every unentailed property he now owns, he can never save the one property he loves most - his grandmother’s home, Parkland Estate. Lady Violet Slushman becomes one of the wealthiest women in London when her family die when the ship they are travelling to America on sinks. Besieged with suitors desperate to marry her for her money. She is left with no choice but to go to Mrs. Bessie Dove-Lyon, the black widow of Whitehall.
This was a quick but lovely romance, Lettie is the plain jane & Markham the handsome soldier but he sees Lettie for who she is an intelligent, caring woman with a wonderful sense of humour. I loved their journey to a HEA which contained a couple of surprises. They were perfect for each other & this delightful romance highlighted that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder
