A cute story about gaining independence and staying safe. I thought the book’s text and wording needs more consideration. Illustrations are colourful and cute with enough white space for processing.
Safety tips at the back are always helpful
The story follows a young child that loses his mother in the store. The story handled the subject very well. At no point did it feel too much for my kid. It serves as a great reminder to have conversations with children on how to handle a situation if they somehow find themselves in a similar scenario.
Super fun and cute book! I loved how much detail all of the illustrations had, and the colors were great. The little details will capture kids' attention and give them a bit of an interactive experience to look for "clues" in the drawings. As for the colors, I really liked them. The illustrator definitely used color to their advantage to make all of the characters very different, but still interesting. Bravo illustrator!
The story was perfect! It was perfect that Rafa used his problem-solving skills to find his mom, even though he was scared. This is a great teaching opportunity for kids reading this, especially young ones. Adding onto that, the guide at the back of the book for kids and parents/guardians to use was a genius idea! It takes the teachings of this book farther, rather than just having the book there for entertainment. It serves more than one purpose. Also a small detail, but worth noting: it was so clever for the author to use alliteration in one section of the book. It gives a little fun literary device for kids to notice and find fun.
Bravo!
Length is perfect for a toddler. It’s nicely written and illustrated and I like that there’s a clear, concise message within. This opens a great opportunity to talk about safety and what we do when we’re lost.

ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I thought this was a clever cautionary tale but my children (3 and 5) found it quite repetitive and boring. We all agreed that we liked the illustrations and it definitely kept our attention but they did not want to read it again.
I really loved this book, both for its illustrations and style, but also for the message given out to both parents and children.
To start with the illustrations are good. They’ve made sure to include a wide array of people in the illustrations, both as main focuses of some pages, but also in the background.
The main thing I like is the message, it teaches children to not run away from their parents in the supermarket. It also teaches them a technique if they loose their parents, which I should have had when I grew up from the amounts of times I wondered of without them.
It also includes some help for the parents by including a list of things to talk to your children about. Especially in a situation where you might get split up from each other in a public space, which I think is very good.
Thank you to Netgalley and Marble press for giving me a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
Review to come in September on blog/other places.
I received this book from Netgalley/the publisher in exchange of an honest review.
When I spotted this one on Netgalley I just had to request/read it! It sounded and looked so cute, and I can tell you, it was cute. Also sad of course, but mostly just cute!
Meet Rafa! A little boy who is allowed to walk with his mom in the supermarket rather than sitting in the cart. He is a big boy now! And at first we see that Rafa is having no problem with keeping up with mom, but what happens when he smells cookies? Or when something interesting happens? You can guess the answer. Rafa and his mom are separated. Rafa at first doesn't know because he thinks he has the right legs... but oh no! These are all wrong! And so begins a quest to find the right legs! I just LOVED that because it is so true. For a tiny kid big adult legs are fundamental. They are still so small, and they are often lost in a sea of legs. While I have no active memory of it, I do have some further away memories of getting lost, or having to push through a sea of legs when I was small to get where I wanted to go.
I loved seeing Rafa check and feel legs to find his mom's legs! From them being too fluffy to them being too bright to being to big, he really checks them for each detail. I was rooting for this little boy and more than once I just wanted to step in the book to help him with his quest (because we as the reader can see that mom is also searching for Rafa which was a detail that I liked).
The ending was just so sweet and it definitely made me go aww! I am very proud of Rafa and what decision he made!
Oh, and I just love that there is also another lost kid. Plus, that everyone in the store is clearly seeing Rafa and are also worried for him. So often these days people are stuck in their own bubbles (which is not bad) that they don't always notice what is around them. So this made me happy.
The art (and be sure to also check out the end papers) was just so much fun! I love the amount of details. From food to legs to bits and bobs around the store.
All in all, a fun, relatable, delightful, and cute book about a little boy on the look-out for the right pair of legs!
Oh this book as just adorable!!!! My kids absolutely loved it! Such a sweet story with a wonderful concept. They adored the pictures and asked to read it over and over again.
Rafa and the Wrong Legs is a picture book that follows Rafa, a young boy who has lost his mother in the grocery store. I can remember being a small child and accidentally grabbing onto a stranger's leg thinking it was my mother. I think this story handled that experience of being lost so well!
The illustrations were delightful, and I loved the way Rafa had such a strong voice in the text. I think this book would be great to read to all young kiddos & discuss what happens if you do get separated from your parents in public. I really appreciate that the author included discussion questions for your children at the end.
Thanks to NetGalley, Angie Lucas, and Marble Press for the chance to read and review!
The book was beautifully written and the illustrations were delightful. The author made careful word choices that were very impactful and will be great for young children. Overall, the book was well written and I did really enjoy it.
