This is a cute picture book about rebel type dogs. They don’t mow their lawn, they steal things, they don’t like petunias.


And yet, thenarrator finds that she enjoys their company. It is fun going down to the river with them. It is fun playing badminton. It is fun in the park. Perhaps they are not bad dogs.


But in the end, the narrator learns that they are wanted dogs, for stealing a banjo. But once they are found out, they run away and a dull dog moves in next door, who like petunias, and playing boring card games. The narrator concludes that they aren’t really bad dogs, they just liked to play.


This is a fun book about having adventures with dubious characters. Not sure if that is a message you want to send to a child, but we all have to take some chances with friends.
