This was a slow read for me. Some of the characters, especially Scott were just awful. It had enough to keep me interested and keep turning the pages but something just felt missing. I’m used to a faster paced book than this one but I do feel it will be a hit with many people.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in return for my honest and unbiased opinion.

This was a slowish start but fairly quickly the pace really picked up. I sat up in bed reading through most of the night as I could not put it down. The character descriptions were excellent. Introduced at perfect times and it was easy to relate to them all, however I did not like any of them as they were all not nice people. There were so many twists that each time I thought that I knee hast going to happen I hand to change my mind. At the start the story line seemed very similar to another book that I had read but I was so wrong which was apparent the more that I read.
After finishing reading I decided that it was time for sleep but sadly I had a nightmare dream.
I now look forward to more books by this very talented author.

3.75 stars-

While the premise is intriguing, the execution of the plot was underwhelming and the ending felt too rushed in my opinion. Homewrecker had so much potential and I was really excited to give it four stars at least until I got to the ending which was really disappointing lol. A heavy emphasis was placed on the topic of mental health in this book which is great but I felt that the complex nature of such a topic is oversimplified and disregarded? Throughout the book, we were led to believe that Deanna was the ‘homewrecker’ which could leave readers shocked when they get to the ending. However, I felt that the plan hashed by Deanna and the explanation provided by other characters did not justify any of the horrific behaviour done by other characters to Sophie? I still don’t understand why the message of the book or the main motive behind the plan hatched by the other characters to ‘help’ Sophie is that a woman can only be motivated to enact change/ believe the words of other women about accounts of abuse inflicted by a male if they experience such behaviours themselves. LIKE… yes there are cases where this could happen but i would argue that the majority of women (+me as a woman) would believe the words of another women about this kind of behaviour over the word of a man lol. The motive just felt so half baked to me because this still doesn’t justify all of the characters gaslighting the fuck out of Sophie and taking her kids (albeit non biological) away from her + somehow she’s okay with it in the end???? I wish the author would have spent more time fleshing out the ending and added more scenes of Chas (especially) and Katie meeting up with the ‘gang’ to execute their plan instead of just focusing on repeating the same old monologue of Sophie feeling she was losing grip on reality and Deanna being evil lol because it got tedious really quickly. This book also did not help me foster any sort of love for children because Katie was an absolute menace to society wtf? I was annoying as a 12/ 13-year-old but she was insufferable MY GOD. The fact that she knew her dad was suspicious to an extent but still blamed Sophie when she found out the truth about her origins is just BONKERS to me. No brain cells were detected whatsoever.

OKAY. Enough with the negativity lol. Even though I found most, if not all of the characters insufferable (aside from Sophie because I knew she was innocent from the start), I could not put this book down for the life of me. This is a testament to the author’s writing for real. Homewrecker was my first entry into the J. M. Dalgliesh universe and I’m happy to share that I am a huge fan of his writing style. In psychological thrillers, I often find that the writing is way too descriptive which makes it hard to follow the plot. However, Dalgliesh’s straightforward and concise approach certainly felt like a breath of fresh air for me as a reader who loves reading thrillers in this genre so I would definitely check out his other books in the future (hopefully with a better execution of the plot ofc!)

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for sending me this ARC in exchange for an honest review:)

This is an addictive and twisty domestic thriller that I couldn’t put down. I was quickly drawn into the plot and characters. The ending took me by surprise which is rare. Overall, it’s a strong 4 star read and one that I’d definitely recommend.

A bit of a slow burner….
Sophie appears to have everything - a good looking attentive husband, Scott; a son and daughter, Chas and Katie plus she’s a minor celebrity seemingly loved by all
Things begin to go wrong when Katie starts a fire at school and is expelled. Scott organises a tutor, Deanna but Sophie doesn’t trust her and is sure she intends to come between her and Scott.
Things rapidly deteriorate leaving Sophie’s mental health in turmoil. Nobody is who they seem and the ending is a twist that I certainly did not guess

This book and the characters made me so mad which I think is a good thing because it means I was so into it. I felt so bad for Sophie and the ending was so shocking! I had so much fun with this book! If you love Freida McFadden then you will love this! Thank you to NetGalley for sending me this arc!!

Homewrecker by JM Dalglish it’s a book so twisty the intrigue starts with the title. In the book we meet Sophie who is married to Scott and lives in one of the posh neighborhoods in London she is rushing home from her job as a local TV personality to deal with her 12-year-old daughter Katie who has been getting in serious trouble at school lately. Her husband Scott blames her but he also seems to be one of the most understanding loving husband you could ever have but just wish she would focus more on her family. They also have a teenage son named Chaz who is in his first year at UNI but is basically a good boy. To make matters worse the woman Sophie depends on to take care of the problems at home has the leave to tend to her own personal issues and this is when they decide to get a tutor to help Katie who has been expelled from school and needs to get her work in so she doesn’t fail this is when Dena enters the picture in all the craziness begins. When things start going missing and secrets Sophie wanted buried come out she blames Dena, but Scott couldn’t be a bigger fan. Sophie would do anything for her children especially Kate and before it’s over she may just have to. This book was so good I did not at all until like two chapters before everything went down know what was going to happen it’s so to say it was a mike drop, OMG moment is understating it because even though you think you know what’s going to happen just wait there’s more in boy, Is there? This book is so twisty and so so good they do have a couple of eye rolling moments at the end but the book is so good you’ll definitely overlook that this was really a great read. Especially if you love twisty “didn’t see that coming” tight plots then you’ll really enjoy this one.#NetGalley, #Bookoucher, #JMDalglish, #TheHomewrecker,

Thank you NetGalley and Bookuture for allowing me this opportunity to read an ARC of Homwrecker by J M Dalgliesh.

We start off with being introduced to Sophie and Scott and their two children 18yo Charles and 12yo Katie…who is trouble at school and has been expelled for bad behaviour. Katie and Sophie dont have the typical loving mother and daughter relationship as Katie starts to act strange.

They decide to get a home tutor for Katie to continue her studies…but Sophie has a suspicion about Deanna’s intentions towards her husband and family. When Sophie begins to suffer from delusions and memory lapses she starts to question her own sanity…

We leap straight into the story after being introduced to this seemingly perfect family, I enjoyed the character building and the page turner aspect throughout however there was not much excitement happening up until the last 1/3 of the book.
Perhaps I would have enjoyed it more if there were a few more little details and snippits that hinted at the antagonist in this story earlier on so it wasn’t such a sudden shift between the unknown and the sudden reveal.

However with all that being said it was and enjoyable read that I would recommend to friends and everyone who likes a nice short thriller they fan binge!

Every relationship has secrets, but Scott harbours many more than anyone else. This intense story kept me at the edge of my seat all the way to the end. Even though I thought I knew where the storyline was leading, I was happily surprised to find out I was all wrong. Having just watched Blackwater Lane the night before (based on The Breakdown by B.A Paris), I made a lot of assumptions about the characters and storyline. Come to find out, even though it may look similar, one is not at all like the other. I felt I was at the heart of it all, fighting 'demons' alongside the characters. There were a few layers of mystery the author did a good job of presenting and incorporating into the big picture.

A well-put-together summer read that will stay with you for quite some time.

Many thanks to the author, Netgalley and Bookouture for the advance copy of the audio and ebook for an honest review

Once I started this I couldn't put it down, it was so gripping and addictive. A real page tuner and very twisty. I've heard a lot about this author but, have never read any of their books so, I was interested to read this one and I'm really glad I did. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Homewrecker is a tense, shrewd and daring read.
My first read from the popular UK thriller author.
Sophie and Scott live a privileged life.
A beautiful home, two kids and successful careers in media.
But twelve year old Katie has become troublesome at school and an incident leads to suspension.
Not to disrupt her education they hire a tutor for her.
Enter Deanna, a lovely, attractive woman.
But no family is perfect and with the arrival of Deanna, no one will be the same again and when it all comes to a climax, the truth is revealed……
The plot, the characters, the setting and the tension all make for a clever suburban domestic melodrama.
No character is who they seem and with a sharp ending, this read is very interesting and compelling.
There was a few times I was flabbergasted and floored, all in a fabulous way.
I look forward to J.M’s next thrilling adventure.

Wow, I didn’t see that coming!! This was a wild twist, and I didn’t have a clue.

The story is mostly told by the MC, Sophie Beckett, who is married to the rich, and very handsome Scott. They have two children, 18 year old son Chas, and Katie aged 12. Sophie is a presenter on a successful daytime tv show, who is trying to find the balance between her career, and looking after her home and family, which is taking a huge toll on her mental health. There seems to be a lot of gaslighting of Sophie, and her daughter Katie, is rude and obnoxious, and basically a brat, who is constantly being suspended from school…enter Deanna, a young and very beautiful, home tutor.

The story was a bit slow at the beginning, and it didn’t really get going for me until nearly halfway through…then I was flying through the pages!!

I believe this is the author’s first book as a psychological thriller, having carved a name for himself in the crime/thriller world, and I was very impressed with this debut. Despite a slow beginning, I really enjoyed this book, especially the twist in the last few chapters. I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future.

Thanks to the author and NetGalley for providing me with this free ARC, of which I leave a voluntary review.

4⭐️ Thank you to NetGalley and Bookoutre an advanced copy of Homewrecker.

Sophie has an idyllic life on the outside, a husband Scott and two children Chas and Katie who she adores and a career she loves. But on the inside everything is not as it seems. Katie has been acting out at school and eventually gets expelled, Sophie feels like she has failed Katie and Sophie does not know where Katie’s anger and disdain for her has come from but no matter what she does to try to bond with Katie she is rejected.

Then a tutor Deanna shows up on her doorstep one day to help Katie not fall behind and the family falls in love with her instantly, making Sophie feel even worse about herself as a mother. Deanna has no problem making herself right at home in Sophie’s house. Plus Sophie feels like she is losing her grip on reality and she will do whatever is necessary to keep her family!

I felt like this book was a little slow at the beginning and I was convinced I knew how this was going to play out. But I was so wrong! I really enjoyed this book and the last part had my jaw on the floor!

Talk about having your socks knocked off! J.M. Dalgliesh shocked me with this gripping and tension-filled psychological thriller. I thought I had this entire book figured out. I thought it was so obvious! I was so wrong!!!!!

Married couple, Sophie and Scott both have successful careers. They also have two children and onlookers would assume that they have the perfect life. After their twelve-year-old daughter gets into trouble at school, they hire Deanna to tutor her.

Soon Sophie begins to feel as if she made the wrong choice. Deanna seems to be a little too comfortable in her home. She seems to be dazzling everyone except Sophie!

I enjoyed how the book progressed and showed how Sophie began to doubt, become suspicious, and alarmed. I had my own doubts and suspicions along with her. When strange things begin to happen, questions about mental health come into play. I was certain that I knew where this book was going, and I was wrong, wrong, wrong! I love it when that happens. This book also has a nice number of twists, tension, suspicion, and reveals along the way.

J. M. Dalgliesh expertly pulled off a shocking reveal at the end that I never saw coming. Whew! Well done!

I had both the book and audiobook versions of Homewrecker which made for a fully enjoyable reading experience. This was my first book by J. M. Dalgliesh, and I look forward to reading more of his books.

Well written, well thought out, tense and shocking!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I had no clue what was going on until the end but I think that’s exactly what the other wanted from this story. As Sophie descends into chaos so did I. I loved that I couldn’t see what was happening just as she couldn’t.

It kept me on hooks until the end and the moment the twist was revealed I simply could not put this down! I truly didn’t see it coming.

It was interesting reading about how the other half life and I loved the aspects about how the TV industry works and loved a glimpse into the way women are treated.

All in all it was a fascinating tale and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

There was so much gaslighting of Sophie, but I have to admit the writing style kept me intrigued enough to finish. The story had its moments but it didn't grip me as much as I had hoped. Maybe if the beginning wasn’t so slow, I would’ve been more invested. Plots like this are pretty overdone in this genre but I always find myself reading them anyway.

Mental health is a very tricky topic to incorporate into books; you can either nail it or miss the mark completely, making it a powerful element or a potential pitfall in the story. In this case, it felt more like a miss.

Kids in books like this can be a hit or miss; in this case, they were definitely a miss. Their behavior was obnoxious, and they acted much older than their age, especially the girl. It just didn't work for me.

The ending was just meh; it felt forced and not believable at all. There could have been a much better way to tie it all up and end the book, but oh well. Basically, the prologue ended up being the best part.
