Beyond the Bukubuk Tree is a story centered around the ill-planned Australian defense of Rabaul and the forbidden love of a young army doctor, Jake, with a traumatized WWI corporal, Wip.

The love story is bittersweet, the brutality of war raw, and the backtrop of New Britain immersive. The story has its flaws (the first 15% of the book is slow and a bit odd and uncomfortable for non-Jewish readers) with an ending far from perfect not doing the book justice.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!
