Descent is the 4th book in Marko Kloos’s The Palladium Wars series. And I must admit when I first read Aftershocks, the first book in the series…I didn’t like it. What you have to understand is that Marko’s Frontline series is one of my absolute favorite sci-fi series. So I really just wanted more of that. The idea of something new didn’t appeal to me at the time. But I realized that I wasn’t being fair and so after a bit of time I gave Aftershocks another go, and while I still love the Frontline series more, I became a fan of this series as well. Now much like the Frontline series, this is a series where I most definitely recommend (almost insist) you read the books in order. Now given that, I’m pretty much hesitant to give a serious breakdown on the story itself, it being a continuation of the ongoing saga. I will say the story is intriguing, action sequences well done, and as is always the case in Marko’s books the world building is fascinating. Now when it comes to pacing, Marko has always had his own style, and he’s never been afraid to slow things down. Now there are some that complain about his , but honestly the only time this has ever bothered me, or rather puzzled me, was in his book Scorpio. (But that’s a complaint for another day.) I’m very much looking forward to seeing how this all gets wrapped up in book 5. Generally when I listen to a series I prefer having the same narrator the entire thing, and I’m sure I’m not alone in this. However The Palladium War series has used a different narrator in for each book and this time around it is the talented Seth Podowitz. I’d like to thank Brilliance Audio and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to an advanced copy of the audio version of Descent.
