This was enjoyable but not quite as good as the past books I’ve read by this author. I’m still glad I read it but it did fall a bit flat to me in the storyline. I think it needed more substance to stay interesting!
This was a super interesting read. I was actually surprised it was as good as it was. The synposis and cover didn't portray just has clever this book really is.
The writing is phenomenal, the characters developed nicely as the book progressed. I really enjoyed the ending. Its not a surprise but it was great seeing how the characters all act after the fall out.

The Summer Club by Hannah Mary McKinnon is a captivating read that perfectly captures the essence of summer. With its richly developed characters and intricate plot, McKinnon crafts a story filled with mystery, romance, and emotional depth. The novel transports readers to a sun-drenched world where secrets unravel and relationships are tested. McKinnon's writing is both engaging and evocative, making this book a perfect summer escape. It's a must-read for anyone looking to lose themselves in a beautifully told, heartwarming story.
The Mayhaven Beach club known for its exclusivity has its openly evident drama. This one is said to be adult fiction; however, it felt more YA to me with the drama going on with the teens within the story. There were adult issues but more so with the teens.
Reading the description of this one I expected a bit more from it. Although there was drama within it was not the exciting drama I expected. I felt like nothing really happened. The beginning was interesting but along the way it fell flat for me. Don’t get me wrong, the book was well written, and may be a good beach read to take on vacation while relaxing. I just found it a bit slow for me. I ended up grabbing the audiobook to listen and felt the same. The narrator did a good job of telling the story. It was a good book for me to past the time while multitasking.
Listening to this audiobook was a fantastic experience. The story is a slow burn, unfolding gradually and letting you get absorbed in the rich atmosphere and detailed world.
What made it really special was the narration. Hearing different characters' perspectives added so much depth. The narrator brought each character to life, making their voices distinct and engaging. It felt like I was right there with them, experiencing everything firsthand.
The little details in the story are what really stood out. Every small thing you learn adds another layer, making the world feel so alive and real. The pacing might be slow, but that just gave me more time to savor every moment.
If you enjoy audiobooks that take their time to build a rich, immersive world and let you connect deeply with the characters, this one is perfect. It's a slow burn, but the narration makes it a journey worth taking.

Listened to the audio version and the narration was good. Overall a like-able plot with endearing characters. Didn’t love either, but both were good.
We met Ned, Darcy and Flick and follow them through the course of the book. Both Ned + Flick were status-quo characters, nice and fairly predictable. (Not in a bad way!) However, I didn’t quite I understand Darcy. It’s obviously fairly early in there’s something with her + golf and that story builds. However, there were other details that I believe supported this storyline but I still don’t know WHY. (I think I know, but they feel like they were not explained and should have been?)
Overall, a good story with some redeeming sub-plots (Flick + step dad and Flick + co-workers) but not deep or moving.
Advance reader copy provided by Brilliance Audio and NetGalley but all opinions are my own.

⛳️ Review:
This book felt a little all over the place. I first thought this was a thriller from the way the blurb describes the plot, turns out it’s just about a rich summer club and whole lot of surface level drama. I felt like the general story was drawn out and far too long, I wish we got more into the nitty gritty of the familial experience of the club and the drama of the story. Everything felt very drawn out up until the end which felt very rushed and chaotic. The ending was predictable. Following that many storylines and POVs I was hoping we’d get more than surface level before the 97% mark. All in all it’s not something i’ll be reaching for again, and it wasn’t at all what I was expecting.

The Summer Club was an entertaining read set in New England full of lots of country club drama. It’s told in multiple POVs, and we get to see how the story unfolds from different angles. This was a pretty fast-paced read, and while it is targeted as an adult novel, I definitely think a mature YA could read this one too. Overall, this was an entertaining book with some miscommunication, teenage woes, and rich people drama. It would make for a good beach read!

🎧I alternated between the physical book and the audiobook, narrated by Sara Sheckells. This was my first time listening to an audiobook narrated by Sheckells, and I really enjoyed my time listening to her bring this story to life. I found her to be very dynamic and emotional and I really thought she was perfect for this audiobook. I would definitely recommend listening to this audiobook if that option is available to you!

This book was cute. A refreshing read. I got through it quick. I can’t really say there is anything special about it, but it was entertaining. I really enjoyed the narration.

The Summer Club by Hannah McKinnon

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Synopsis: The exclusive community of Mayhaven beach club in Massachusetts is upended by the arrival of some new neighbors who don’t quite fit the mold.
Thoughts: The Summer Club is an easy beach read if you enjoy New England summertime vibes. Following the drama of a small community revolving around a Massachusetts country club, we see the story unfold from a few perspective, both adult and teenager. I thought the author did a really solid job capturing the teen emotions without leaning YA. While this wasn’t a particularly fast paced or plot heavy book, I was pretty invested in seeing how the characters ended up. There are some heavy topics dealt with, so check trigger warnings (SA specifically).

Darcy and Flick are neighbours who have the Mayhaven country club in common. Flick works there while Darcy used to play golf there with her father. But things are heating up at the country club....
So I'm leaving this synopsis vague because the less you know about this book, the better. Go in blind and wait for the fireworks. While the book does start out slow, it does start to gain momentum around halfway and then ends with a bang. Don't get put off by the slow pace at the beginning, just enjoy the build up. I listened to the audiobook of this one and the narration was excellent.
