This was a interesting book. I love thr characters and the setting. If you. Love a good cozy mystery about food this is the book for you.
Delilah is catering another party, which fizzles out quickly when a series of events leaves one guest injured and another vanished. Things only get weirder when Rabbit disappears, her brother-in-law mysteriously appears, and Daniel has some secrets he's not willing to share. And what is up with the Hoffmans? That guy is such a jerk!
I've enjoyed this whole series, but this book was special. There's just something about the way it was written, how everything was phrased, the way the mystery played out with so many (I mean, SO MANY) clues that the ending seemed like it should be been obvious but I had NO CLUE what was going on. By far this book is the best of the series so far and I'm so ready for book 5. I would also love to see this author start a new series.
This book had less emphasis on the restaurant, but we see enough of it to make me crave pizza. We also get to see a fun winter festival in Geneva Bay and hear about a fancy resort with skiing and a high-brow spa. All fun settings I hope we'll see more of later in the series.
This series is a great one for fans of culinary cozies, a definite must-read!
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC.
In SLEEP IN HEAVENLY PIZZA, the newest addition to the Deep Dish Mystery series, Delilah and her Delilah & Son pizzeria are catering a Chrismukkah house party at a private residence at the Grand Bay Resort to celebrate Christmas and Hunnakah. To her shock, Delilah sees human feet sticking out of a snow cylinder. Thank heavens Capone is at the scene. Who is dead, and why?
It feels good to return to Delilah’s world. I wish the mysterious body had been discovered earlier in the mystery. Otherwise, the plot progresses nicely with a satisfying conclusion. Delilah’s relationship with Capone is moving along at a good pace. I look forward to reading the next book in the Deep Dish Mystery series. Thank you, St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the chance to read and review an advance reader copy of SLEEP IN HEAVENLY PIZZA.
In the latest instalment of this wonderful cozy mystery, whatever traditions families observe during the holiday season, Delilah will cater the most delicious food. A murder during her event isn’t on her menu. I love all the employees at Delilah’s upscale restaurant. Each one has an individual story, background, achievements, problems, heartaches and love life. They don’t just work at the restaurant – they are a family. My favorite part of the series is of course the scrumptious food. Well, maybe it’s Butterball the cat. Then there’s Aunt Biz, a spunky octogenarian with personality. I’ve never visited Wisconsin so I appreciate the picture the author paints in my mind. I’ve read all in the series and this one shows a poignant side of Delilah. She’s not her usual cheery self as she balances the stressful holiday season, family drama and solving a murder. Her relationship with the delicious local police detective is evolving. Will her meddling and investigating to clear her family and employees names put a strain on the budding romance? Her estranged sister’s unexpected arrival just ramped the tension higher. Another enjoyable plot that kept me changing my mind about the killer. This will be perfect to read during the holidays or just because of the mouthwatering recipes included. Can’t wait to see where the next part of Delilah’s life will take her.
An Advance Reader Copy of “Sleep in Heavenly Pizza” (Deep Dish Mysteries #4) by Mindy Quigley, was provided by St. Martin’s Press Minotaur Books (via NetGalley) publication expected 10/22/2024. These honest, personal thoughts and opinions are all my own, given voluntarily without compensation.
Sleep in Heavenly Pizza is the fourth in the Deep Dish Mystery series but the first I’ve read. I knew it centered around a pizza shop, obviously, but had a different kind of restaurant in my head. Delilah & Son is way fancier than our pizza places generally. Of course, I live in the land of Steubenville/ Ohio Valley pizza and my favorite pizzeria doesn’t have any place to sit and eat, either inside or outside, but they do have a stack of napkins on the counter in case you want to eat in your car. They certainly wouldn’t be catering the upscale Chrismukkah party the book opens with. The party winds down a bit early when the hosts’ family drama gets out of hand and glassware is broken. The next day one of the guests is found dead in a pile of snow being used for a sculpture competition, and of course the guests and catering staff come under suspicion.
I did think this worked fine a stand-alone. It’s a self-contained mystery and the author did a good job introducing all the characters without spending too much time rehashing the previous books.
Delilah is our amateur sleuth/chef/restaurant owner. She and her (requisite) detective boyfriend, Calvin Capone, have to sort through the clue and family dynamics to figure out who the killer was. There is a lot going on with the investigation, Delilah’s family being in town, and one of her employees missing.
The characters are fun and the small town setting is great. I liked how even the secondary characters got a chance to shine. The mystery itself was put together well, with plenty of suspects and red herrings. I liked the seasonal touches too. Give me a good holiday cozy anytime.
This is a great cozy mystery series and this a great cozy mystery. On the eve of Chrismuklah, Delilah's is catering a Christmas party. Strange things are happening. . Her brother in law and niece are there at the party but her sister didn't come,. She does come later. Anyway it appears that someone fell off the balcony and is found buried in the snow under an ice sculptor. Of course Delilah is the amateur sleuth and she is good . She also dates Capone the police chief. There seem to be many suspects . Follow their journey trying to find out who did it. It keeps you guessing trying to figure it out.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was nice to see a protagonist learn and grow, and understand that some of her demands to her officer boyfriend were unreasonable. Watching their relationship change to better trust and understanding, while solving a challenging crime was so much fun. I already know I'll be recommending this cozy mystery to my customers.
3.5 stars
If you're able to I would recommend reading this book with lots of yummy food nearby and a chonky feline sitting on your lap.
While this wasn't my favourite of the series, too much family angst, it was still a fun read. As usual, Butterball is the best.
This is the 4th book in this series and it's a stand-alone mystery so you don't need to have read the other books to enjoy it. Although I'd recommend reading them because they're all very enjoyable.
Looking forward to more books in this series!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from St. Martin's Press through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you, St. Martin's Press!
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the opportunity to read Sleep in Heavenly Pizza by Mindy Quigley. It's the fourth book in her Deep Dish Mystery series, but the first one I've read. However, I had no problem connecting with the characters and following the story.
The first-person protagonist is Delilah O'Leary, chef and restaurant owner in Geneva Bay, Wisconsin. When the story opens, Delilah and her staff have a catering gig at a Chrismukkah party at the home of a wealthy couple, Daffi and Adrian Hoffman.
All goes well until the Hoffmans' college-age daughter, Hadley, flies into a rage, starts throwing dishes, and then bumps into one of Delilah's waiters, breaking a whole tray of glassware and injuring her leg. The party comes to an abrupt end shortly thereafter. As Delilah and her staff clean up, Delilah notices that one of the guests, Natasha La Cotti, has left her coat behind—unthinkable on a cold, snowy night.
The next day, Delilah and Capone, her police detective boyfriend, visit the lakefront park where artists are getting ready for an ice sculpture competition. However, when they begin to work, they uncover a dead body. It turns out to be Natasha La Cotti. Security footage from the Hoffman home reveals that Natasha was pushed off a balcony shortly before the end of the party. But how did her body get to the park? And although most of her clothing has been removed, there's no evidence of sexual assault.
This story deals with a lot of family dynamics and interpersonal relationships among the well-developed characters. Because several of her employees and family members are suspects in the murder, Delilah stays involved, trying to clear their names. She's sometimes at odds with Capone, but in the end, they work together and share information to solve the case. The motives they uncover address some timely issues.
A well-written, fun holiday mystery. Recipes included at the end.

Ms.Quigley's Deep Dish series is a delight. Each new book tops the last. Delilah, pizza maker and sleuth extraordinaire explore some cases with her detective husband, whether he wants her to or not. This holiday season, a catering job brings more questions than answers and everyone gets involved in one way or another, some with answers and some as suspects. The twists and turns add to the intrigue and make a delightful tale. Don't miss it.
I requested and received a NetGalley ARC to peruse gratis and offer my opinion in the same.
I have never read this series or author before, but I thought the pizza angle was interesting. Delilah and her friends are a delight to read about. I thought Butterball the cat was hilarious. You can tell that Delilah cares a lot about her people and that even though she is frustrated by her relationship (or lack thereof) with her sister, she still tries to help her.
Honestly, I felt that the relationship with her sister could have been resolved with some communication, but I know that sometimes people find that hard. Especially after a death like what happened with their mother.
Capone, Delilah's boyfriend, as related to the actual Capone was genius. It's funny to think about his relative being a cop when he was such a good criminal.
The mystery was really interesting. I loved the medical angle to it. It really had me scratching my head trying hard to figure it out. Overall, I will definitely be reading this series again. Once it got started, it really went fast, and I enjoyed the heck out of it.
Thanks to Net Galley, the publishers, and to Mindy Quigley for the ability to read and review this book. All opinions are my own and are completely honest.
Dee of Delilah & Son pizza is catering an event and all seems to be going smoothly…until it isn’t. Dee’s employee, Rabbit, takes off after dropping a platter of glassware in the middle of the party. The daughter of the host has gotten drunk and in an angry tantrum, threw her plate of food against the wall. And Dee runs into her brother-in-law and niece! Her sister never mentioned they would be in town.
The next morning, things get worse when a body of a party guest is discovered. Soon, Dee’s friends, employees, and family are all in the suspect list. Dee helps her boyfriend and policeman, Capone, sort out the clues.
The characters are fun and the small town setting is great. The story had Christmas angst with difficult family relationships and a murder to solve, but the ending leaves you with a warm feeling.
Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the ARC.
I love this series and I always look forward to reading another book with this wonderful cast of characters.
The holidays bring excitement and joy to many people, however, fir Delilah, the holidays bring unhappy family members, and dead bodies!
When a guest goes missing and their body is found in a snow sculpture, Delilah has to dig deep to figure it all out.
Join Delilah and her cat Butterball as they search for answers to keep themselves out of trouble.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of this book .
This was a well-written and finely tuned drama with a comfortable tone making it easy to follow along with what the author intended. With a steady pace and a superb-plotted storyline, this mystery was tightly woven and kept me immersed in what was going on as the progression of events lead to murder and the appearance of Delilah’s sister and her family, especially when they become entangled in the investigation. From the clues and strategically placed red herrings sprinkled throughout this whodunit, not only do we get to solve a murder mystery, but we also get a better understanding of the dynamics of the main characters who all have pivotal roles in how well this story is being told. This was an enjoyable read and I look forward to more adventures with Delilah and her friends in this delightfully charming series.
This series is quickly becoming a favorite foodie cozy mystery. I love the setting, the character, and the mysteries as well.
Sleep in Heavenly Pizza is the fourth installment in the Deep Dish Mysteries series set in Geneva Bay, Wisconsin and featuring pizza restaurant owner Delilah O'Leary. Delilah runs the deep dish pizzeria with her best friend Sonya Perlman-Dokter, her great aunt, Elizabeth "Biz" O'Leary and employees Melody Schacht, Rabbit, Daniel and Jarka.
The crew is catering an upscale Chrismukkah party for Daffi and Adrian Hoffman that seems to be going well until Rabbit disappears while he was supposed to be taking equipment back to the van. Delilah goes looking for him and following footsteps through the snow she ends up back inside the home and on the second floor. She encounters an eavesdropping, plate throwing young girl, a mysterious woman and her brother in law, Jonathan.
Delilah can't understand why Jonathan along with her niece Piper are at the party, especially since her sister Shea had turned down Aunt Biz's invitation to spend the holidays in Geneva Bay. It seems that Piper goes to college with the plate throwing girl (Hadley Hoffman) and Jonathan came with her.
The next day as the town gathers for the start of the annual snow sculpture festival, a dead body is found in one of the snow mounds. The body is that of the mysterious woman from the night before, Natasha La Cotti. Seems that quite a few people had history with Natasha, including Jonathan and Daniel's mother.
Detective Calvin Capone, Delilah's boyfriend begins his investigation and warns her to stay away, but when Jonathan becomes a suspect she knows she needs to find the real killer. Shea arrives in town to be with her husband and she's far from in the holiday spirit and tensions are boiling over.
Delilah uncovers both a college admissions scam and a corrupt businessman with repercussions that rock her family and her employees.
A great addition to the series with a returning cast of characters, the introduction of Delilah's sister, and of course the loveable furry feline, Butterball. Oh, and some mouthwatering recipes too. I look forward to more adventures and more pizza!
I received an advanced copy of Sleep in Heavenly Pizza from NetGalley via St. Martin's Press. While not required to write a review I am happy to offer my honest opinion.
Another fun Deep Dish mystery. I liked the plot and the character progression. I was surprised at the end.
Mindy Quigley does it again with another book in the Pizza series.
While preparing for a snow sculpting competition, a frozen body is found in a block of sculpting ice.
A nice holiday cozy mystery
I loved this newest addition to this series. The characters all have their own "issues" and seem very real and relatable. This plot was great, little different than most. I enjoyed the mystery, family drama, friendship, and the sprinkle of romance. If you enjoy cozy mysteries, this is a must read.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Sleep In Heavenly Pizza was another great installment in the Deep Dish Mysteries. I like that we finally get to meet Delilah's sister and her family and loved how Aunt Biz was so full of holiday cheer. It was also interesting to learn about the effects of frostbite, I never knew before. I felt because of that the story was well thought out. I also liked how everyone was a suspect and you didn't know who to belive. I highly recommend this series.
