So I started reading this book because I was stuck at an airport for several hours with nothing else to do. It definitely had some plot points that had the potential to make for some very interesting and entertaining reading, but though I kept on reading in the hope that they would eventually be expounded on, nothing really came of them at all. The narrative was all over the place and took some real mental gymnastics to keep up with who was where and what was happening and why the heck it was happening at all, but not in that good "I'm so engaged in this book" type way...but in more of a "this timeline doesn't make sense and I wanna throw this book at a wall" way. The emotions of the characters were stiff and difficult to connect with or even follow. By the last page I was left incredibly confused as to what had happened, irritated that major plot points hadn't been explored better, and emotionally disconnected from the characters. Also, the book ended as if it is meant to be the first book in a series because all the buildup towards certain plot points just suddenly came to an end without delivering any real climax at all. Overall, it had the potential to be brilliant, but sadly fell somewhere around mediocre.
