This is the sequel to The Prince and the Apocalypse. The first book was incredible and I enjoyed the adventure so much that I was nervous about how the follow up would go. This blew my expectations out the water. The first book ended on a devastating cliffhanger. We meet up with Wren as a freshman in college after the world almost ended. She has no idea what she is going to major in and feels a bit stuck. She decides to go get her dog Comet who is currently with King Theo.
This book is full of adventures, twists and turns as well as romance. Kara Mcdowell does such a good job navigating Wren and Theo';s relationship as well as balancing the other characters around them.
I love this duo logy so much and I am hoping we get prince Henrys story!

Thank you to RBMedia and NetGalley for the ALC of Heir, Apparently. I so enjoyed getting through multiple listens of this audiobook and it's simply wonderful!

Heir, Apparently picks up months after the conclusion of The Price and the Apocalypse. Wren seeks out Comet (and Theo, of course) as Theo and his siblings are visiting Canada. When Wren and Theo are photographed together by the paparazzi, they’re forced to have Wren travel to London with Theo in order to help best manage the response and provide some temporary protection for Wren. On their way to London, their plane goes down and they must survive on the island as they await rescue.

I don't read YA often but last year one of my favorite YA reads was The Prince & the Apocalypse. I recall being so captivated by the audiobook and I credit this to narrator, Laura Knight Keating. Keating did such an incredible job and I'm so happy Keating returned for Heir, Apparently. I can't imagine a different voice bringing Wren to life.

Heir, Apparently is an adventure just like its predecessor - it was hard to imagine how the story would follow up a potential apocalypse, but McDowell nails it, crafting a story that has that adventure but also deals with different layers of challenges that multiple members of the story need to navigate and overcome. Keating once again does such an incredible job bringing to life Wren and the rest of the cast as they navigate highs, lows, humor, desperation, romance, etc.

I can't wait for the release in a few days - you'll love the conclusion to this duology!

College freshman Wren is secretly married to Theo, King of England. Thrust into the royal spotlight, she heads to London with Theo. When their plane crashes on a deserted island, they must confront their feelings for each other while battling the elements—and decide whether their future will be a happily ever after or a heartbreaking goodbye.

This adventure romance is a lot of fun. The well-paced story has a strong plot and characters. The book can stand alone, but the series is best read in order. The audio narration was well done.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

I had been waiting forever for this sequel! This was the perfect continuation of the story. Similar to book 1, this was an adventerous survival story, but this one was so much more stressful! I could not put this book down till I knew everything was going to be okay.

Thank you NetGalley and RBMedia for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

Reviewed for NetGalley:

I reviewed the audiobook version.

Wren Wheeler, after surviving a comet that never hit Earth, about to start college, all while secretly married to the new King of England, heads to Canada to get her dog back…from the King. Throw in a plane crash on a remote island after shortly reuniting, to spice things up.

There are so many wild plot directions in this sequel, but they worked. Sweet, romantic, with a side of thrill.

The narration was also well done, seamlessly switching between accents and characters that made for an easy listen.

First of all I did not read the first book. With that being said I don't think it really mattered I still understand the story.

I did enjoy the the first 3/4 of the book which included some great banter and lots of suspense. The last 1/4 of the book kind of dragged.

I listened to the audiobook and the performance was ok. It might have been better as a full cast narration since there was only a handful of characters.

The story and characters were really good. I enjoyed how this book built on the relationships from the first book while also introducing new relationships and complexities into each of the characters. I personally preferred that this book expanded the story to more characters than just Wren and Theo, which was more the focus of the first book. I also liked that the life and death and seemingly-unrealistic catastrophic plotlines continue in this book, as the outrageousness of that was what gave both this and the first book character in my opinion. Overall, the book is great for any young adults looking for a funny comforting-yet-adventurous book, and also any kids at heart ready for the same adventure! I really enjoyed it and am going to enjoy going back through everything else Kara McDowell has written now that I know how amazing it is!

Thank you @wednesdaybooks for my gifted copy!⁣

“I’m not bothered, because we’re stronger than fate”… “What we have is better, because we chose it ourselves.”⁣

Y’all remember when it took me 30 years to read The Prince and The Apocalypse and I fell in love? Then I obsessively ran to NetGalley to read the sequel? It releases Tuesday! (The 9th) and it was a perfect ending to a little duology.⁣

True one-two punch fashion, Heir, Apparently was adorable. We got to see more of the friends/family, more royalty, and more banter. I swooned like always. This book was just perfection.⁣

They also get stranded on an isle Gillian style after a plane crash goes down. They have an annoying pilot and there’s also a volcano. ⁣

Lots of energy, lots of vibes, and honestly did not see that ending coming, but I am hear for it! I got my HEA, and that’s all that matters.⁣

10/10 no notes. Out Tuesday!⁣

This book had some interesting and even good moments. However there was some of the book that dragged on a bit too much. The narration in the audiobook was good. I listened to an advanced readers copy from netgalley but my review is unbiased.

I have been enjoying Regency romance lately. And I really enjoyed this book. I think other romance readers will as well. Pick this one up and publication day.

This was a fun book two (although it wasn't obvious that it was a book two when I requested the ARC), thankfully, I had book one on my shelf and was able to pick it up first before reading this one.

The writing was great, I really enjoy the author's simple story telling method. This book was fast paced and easy to read, the plot was even more outrageous and unlikely than book one's set up. I feel like we were introduced to so many new characters and it took away from the time we spent with the MMC and FMC significantly. There were limited one on one interactions and not enough growth in their relationship considering they spend the majority of the book interacting with everyone outside of the relationship. I would've preferred a little more time with MMC and FMC in this book than what we got considering the way book one ended.

Although a bit chaotic, it was a cute story and was wrapped up nicely in the end.

Thank you to RBmedia for providing an ARC through NetGalley.

I was completely swept away by this captivating audiobook, thanks to NetGalley for providing an advanced reader's copy! The talented Laura Knight Keating brought the story to life with her enchanting narration, keeping me utterly enthralled from start to finish.

The chemistry between Wren and Theo is undeniable, and I found myself rooting for them from the very beginning. Despite the numerous obstacles that fate throws their way, their connection only grows stronger. The author's masterful storytelling had me on the edge of my seat, wondering if these star-crossed lovers would ever find their way back to each other.

With its pulse-pounding plot twists, including plane crashes and volcanic eruptions, this book is a thrilling ride from start to finish. I was completely invested in Wren and Theo's journey, and the author's skillful pacing kept me guessing until the very end.

Overall, I highly recommend this audiobook to anyone looking for a romantic and suspenseful tale that will keep them up all night. Laura Knight Keating's narration is superb, and the story is both captivating and unforgettable.

Full disclosure - I went into this book not realizing that it was book 2 in a connected series when I’m pretty sure the first book ended on somewhat of a cliffhanger. For that reason, I felt a little lost in the beginning but in the end, I don’t think it mattered that much that I hadn’t read the first book. The author did enough recapping to make it make sense. I do think it would be best experienced together though so I definitely recommend reading The Prince & the Apocalypse first - because I think this book obviously has major spoilers to that one.

This books is quirky. The premise is completely far-fetched with everyone having made it through a comet NOT hitting the earth as expected and then figuring out how to get back to normal life. It just kind of gets crazier from there with royal paparazzi, a plane wreck on a deserted island with earthquakes and a volcanic eruption. This all while there is some pretty silly young adult drama but it worked. I don’t think this book will be for everyone but if you like quirky reads, it was enjoyable.

I would classify this as a New Adult book. The main characters are 18 & 19 and dealing with a lot of new adult choices of deciding what to do with the rest of their lives and dealing with very real and deep romantic feelings. There is a bit of strong language as well and fade to black/closed door implied intimacy.

The narrator did a great job of capturing the young adult tone and a decent job with the accents. It did get a little confusing between Henry and Theo voicing at times but I also listen at 2x speed so I think that added to that issue.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from NetGalley. The thoughts and opinions in this review are my own.

Content Notes: Makeouts, fade to black/closed door implied intimacy, some strong language

Thank you Netgalley Wednesday books and Macmillan audio for the free ALC and ebook copy. My opinions are being left voluntarily. This was the follow up from book 1 that i have been waiting for. Grumpy sil hyjinks of escaping an island with royals. Juat absolutely a great read cocet to cover. I was a bit worried what book 2 would look like and i think its my favorite in this duology. Although the way it was set up can definitely see a book 3 coming.

This was a cute sequel, though I will say the extreme situations that is the background for the first and second book are a bit insane. I did enjoy this one and it was nice to see their story continue.

“Heir, Apparently” is a fun, high-stakes story following the swoon-worthy “Prince & the Apocalypse.” I absolutely loved the premise of this story and how well it incorporated friendships, sibling relationships, and romance more than the first.

The theme of uncertainty going in to the future/ not knowing what lies ahead was really well done and I think that any audience— young adult or otherwise— can relate. McDowell does an amazing job blending serious topics with whimsy which makes her stories so addicting.

As far as the audio portion (narrated by Keating), Laura does a fantastic job bringing the characters to life.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

Narrator 5/5

Heir, Apparently is the sequel to The Prince and the Apocalypse. It’s a romantic comedy, with high stakes, banter and a royal fake marriage trope. I enjoyed the pace of this book and its silliness. I think the author did a great job with keeping the action flowing like she did in the first installment. There are new characters introduced, and that gave it a whole new feel. We get to know the royal family and the drama that surrounds being a royal.

Things I didn’t like - I did miss the main characters being the focal point. Their whole relationship drove the first book and you couldn’t help rooting for them, and want more of their story. The lack of communication was a bit annoying and I think that put a hindrance on what I liked from the first one. There was a lot of new character building going on, and while I liked those characters, it took away from what I really wanted. I also felt that the ending was a bit rushed but other than that, it was a cute story. I think if I had to choose one , book 1 was a better.
