After the cliffhanger in the first book, I eagerly read "Heir, Apparently." While the first was fun but unrealistic, I hoped for more realism in the sequel. However, "Heir, Apparently" also had an unconventional plot. Expect unexpected twists if you start this series.

The book wrapped up the first book's cliffhanger well, which I liked. Overall, it was enjoyable, but I wanted more romance. The ending was satisfying and felt like a good conclusion to the series, though I wonder if there'll be a third book.

I liked this one slightly less than the first. It was still entertaining, but the lack of communication between characters creating drama bothered me. The ending was too chaotic with many twists; I just wanted them to be happy together. Theo's choices frustrated me and didn't make sense.

In summary, while I gave the first book 5 stars, "Heir, Apparently" gets 2 stars due to its messy plot and frustrating character decisions.

This was a really cute story. I loved the island arc it was my favorite part although kinda disappointed she didn't lose her arm. The end was great I didn't know what was coming by that point

"Heir, Apparently," the second book in the Prince & The Apocalypse series, dives right back into the action where the first book left off. Wren is dealing with the aftermath of surviving the apocalypse and the bombshell revelation of her marriage to the King of England. The plot thickens as Wren embarks on her freshman year, trying to move on from her royal entanglements. However, a failed rescue mission leads to an unexpected reunion with Theo, sparking old flames and unresolved tensions. The story takes a dramatic turn when their flight to London crashes on a remote island, forcing them to confront not only the challenges of survival but also their complicated relationships and emotional baggage. With poisonous creatures, volcanic threats, and family drama, this sequel promises a thrilling and emotional rollercoaster that will keep readers on the edge of their seats.

I had a blast listening to this book! The humor, plot twists, and character banter were top-notch. Brooke, Naomi, Henry, and Victoria were fantastic supporting characters, especially Victoria and Henry - more books about them, please! The conclusion of Wren and Theo's story was satisfying, with a cute ending that left everyone happy. If you're into rom coms, royal romances, or YA fiction, this book is a must-read recommendation!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

First thing’s first: thank you Netgalley for the ALC of this book!
Heir, Apparently was the sequel to the Prince & the Apocalypse. This book follows Wren and Theo as they try to navigate what their lives look like in the wake of the world not actually ending. Their reunion goes off script when their plane crash lands on a deserted island.
So, I didn’t realize this was a sequel when I picked it up. The author does a great job of giving you the important info so you really don’t feel lost! I enjoyed this book a lot. I love a royal x normal person love story and I was rooting for them! This was cute, fast paced, and fun.

A plane crash, a deserted island, and a royal family. This can only be a recipe for great fun!

Our leading lady, Wren, is a nonsocial, adventurous girl who does not care about the royals. Prince Theo is the complete opposite. He has the world watching his every move and is careful not to misstep.

When Wren decides she wants her dog back, a dog Prince Theo currently possesses, chaos ensues.

I loved this book! I had somehow missed it was a sequel when I saw it on NetGalley, so I had a little bit of catching up to do, but once I was, it was a fun time! This story is pretty unrealistic, but the world is so fun to escape that it isn't as noticeable the longer the story goes on.

I wish this had a dual POV because I would have loved to know what was happening in Theo's head while they were stuck on the island trying to find refuge! It also would have been helpful toward the end of the story when the futures of Wren and Theo were so up in the air!

Overall, I loved this story and went back to place a hold on the first one so that I could learn the beginning of these characters. I believe if you are looking for a sweet YA, this may be your next read!

Quotes I loved;
"Maybe I don't need to be saved, but it sure does feel nice."
"I fell in love with him and gave fate a hostage."
"We fell in love between life and death."

A fun read that continues where The Prince and the Apocalypse left off. I have a strong fondness for these characters from their development in the first book, but the sequel fell just a bit flat for me. There was a ton of build up and conflict for an ending that felt sudden and rushed.

This was my second time reading - first time on audio - and I was ecstatic to see that Laura Knight Keating was back to narrate the sequel! Keating’s narration is so perfect for Wren and I love the cheekiness added to Theo’s lines. I love how these books are so high stakes and there is never a dull moment. I highly recommend the audiobook for a fantastic, heart pounding reading experience!

My heart is still pounding from this WILD ride! If you thought The Prince & the Apocalypse was a rollercoaster, buckle up, because McDowell doesn’t hold back with the action in this sequel - this story will have your heart pounding and keep you on the edge of your seat! McDowell cranks the intensity ALL the way up and I read this in one sitting because putting it down was an impossible feat.

The Prince & the Apocalypse was one of my favorite reads in 2023 and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the sequel after that cliffhanger ending. I’m thrilled to say it did not disappoint! I loved being reunited with Wren and Theo (and Comet!) and getting to know characters that were briefly mentioned in the first book.

What’s fascinating about this duology is how these characters are always in high stress situations, so we get to see how they quickly process and respond to plane crashes, car chases, and erupting volcanoes. Wren and Theo complement each other so beautifully - they’re strong but also deeply human. It was touching seeing Wren continue to remind Theo there is no shame in being vulnerable or leaning on your support system for help, and the moments where they held space for each other, let down their walls, and even cried together as they processed their grief and struggles was deeply moving.

I truly could not put this book down and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with these characters. This story was *nearly* perfect and my heart deflated a little right near the end with some back and forth drama that hurt my heart for the characters and felt very unnecessary, BUT the ending was very satisfying and left a huge grin on my face and a hug wrapped around my heart. I really loved how McDowell dove deeper into discussing mental health from book one, AND offered a thoughtful and relevant critique of the monarchy.

Heir, Apparently, is book two in the Prince & The Apocalypse series. What I like about this book is the fact that you don't have to necessarily read the first book to understand this book.
The narrator, Laura Knight Keating, did a good job bringing these different characters alive. I enjoyed listening to her voice.
The pace of the book was a little slow for me. And the miscommunication wasn't for me, I just wanted MORE romance. But overall, it's a good read.

This is the second book in the series and the writing was as amazing as the book one. The characters were charming just like the last book , this I was so happy to read this one too.
The pace was well maintained throughout the whole book and in Audiobook format, it was super fun to listen.

I received an ARC of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

After reading the first book, I couldn't wait to learn more about Wren and Theo's relationship. It took me approximately nine hours to read the first book and around seven hours to listen to the ARC audiobook of the second book.

This book kept me engaged the entire time. Gasping with surprise and chuckling with laughter, I swear my heart almost exploded every time they chose each other regardless of their circumstances.

This book is action-packed, with strong friendships, and full of love. I highly recommend diving into these two books!

What happens AFTER you (maybe) marry the king of England? Well, carry on normal life like it never happened until you are on the same continent…then you get your best friend and sister to drive with you to see him…under the disguise of stealing your dog back. Yeah, that is a lot….and that is just the start..there is a plane crash, maybe another secret wedding…and 6 royal siblings!

I didn’t know this was the second book of a series, but I was able to follow the story, and I will go back and read the first one.

Laura Knight Keating was the perfect narrator for this story.

Thank you, NetGalley and RB Media, for a copy!

Another slightly over the top, absolutely fun, YA adventure romcom that picks up right where The prince & the apocalypse left off. As Ren gets ready to start college and Theo prepares for his coronation as King of England, the two find themselves reunited one last time and stranded on a desert island with their siblings. Full of action, secrets and Royal Romance greatness, this was excellent on audio and perfect for fans of the American Royals series by Katharine McGee. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital and audio copy in exchange for my honest review! Kara McDowell is an auto-buy, never disappoints author for me!!
