This was a great suspenseful mystery that kept me guessing and on my toes until the explosive ending. Matt and Kara are investigating some bizarre murders that don’t make a bit of sense. What looks random is so much more. This series is one of my favorite by this author. She does outstanding twisty adventures you need in your life. Trust me!!

See How They Hide by Allison Brennan
A Mystery/Thriller, 2025 by MIRA, 400 Pages

What I Didn’t Like:
-I haven’t read the previous books featuring these main characters so I’m reading this as a stand-alone. This doesn’t affect my rating, just noting.
-A character who has trouble showing love saying “ditto” has been done before. I like originality so that rankled. I did appreciate that it was a woman, however.
-There’s a lot of characters in this and sometimes we will change the focus character mid chapter. It can be a bit confusing to head-jump. Worth noting if you aren’t a fan of that type of story.

What I Did Like:
+The book starts with an interesting case, different enough from other things in the genre to keep it fresh and interesting.
+The cast is likeable. They feel real and their interactions are well written. While I haven’t read the rest of the series featuring these characters, I can see why fans would want to!
+You don’t have to read these in order. This one provides plenty of backstory on the characters to fill you in on anything you might not know and the case is contained to this book.

Who Should Read This One:
-Fans of FBI stories featuring agents who work well as a team and mostly follow the rules will like this book or even this series.

This sixth installment in the Quinn and Costa series is another gripping page-turner! The story kicks off with two gruesome murders happening simultaneously on opposite sides of the country, both victims adorned with red poppies. The Mobile Response Team faces one of their most chilling cases yet, diving into a mystery tied to a cult-like community.
I loved the suspense, twists, and meticulous FBI investigations that kept me hooked from start to finish. Kara and Matt’s dynamic is as compelling as ever, and it’s great to see their evolving relationship. Riley’s character added an emotional layer, as her struggle to escape her past mirrored Kara’s own journey.
The balance of personal growth, team camaraderie, and a pulse-pounding case is done flawlessly. Allison Brennan once again delivers a masterfully crafted, edge-of-your-seat thriller. I’m already looking forward to what’s next for this incredible team! Highly recommended for fans of crime fiction.
Very grateful to the publisher for my copy through NetGalley, opinions are my own

Two people murdered at the exact same time, in the same gruesome way, with their bodies adorned in red poppies—yet they’re on opposite sides of the country! What’s the connection, and why were they targeted? As the body count rises, the clock is ticking, and the stakes couldn’t be higher.

I can’t help but gush about Kara, Matt, and the rest of the Mobile Response Team (MRT). I’m fully invested in this team. Each book in this series just keeps getting better and better. This time, the MRT is up against a complex case that’s as puzzling as it is chilling. It’s definitely one of their toughest challenges yet, but this team is uniquely equipped to solve it.

What I love most is how the team has evolved. They’ve really gelled, and you can feel the camaraderie as they face this daunting task. Plus, there’s some fantastic character development for a couple of team members that really adds depth to the story.

From the get-go, this book pulls you in with its fast-paced, baffling plot, and a cast of intriguing players. The conclusion? Absolutely nail-biting and oh-so-satisfying! I can’t wait to see what wild ride the MRT embarks on next!

Kara and Matt's latest FBI case brings them in when 2 people in 2 different areas of the country are murdered the exact same way and found with red poppies scattered over them. Kara is on her game when she recognizes and identifies the roommate of one of the murdered victims outside the crime scene and pursues her for answers. The FBI uses all resources possible to link commonalities among the growing list of victims. Kara and Matt's relationship is put to the test as well as Kara's investigative skills as she continues to prove that despite her background she is a top notch investigator. This one is super suspenseful and the FBI investigative tools impressive as they dive into the underworld of wilderness communities. Looking forward to the next Costa and Quinn case!

A twisty, turn of suspenseful reading with strong main characters and fabulous sub characters! if you're a fan of the suspense of Kathy Reichs or James Patterson this series is for you! You won't be able to put it down! Shoutout to NetGalley, Allison and MIRA for the eARC!!!

What to Expect:
⭐ Dual murder investigations
⭐ Cross state murders
⭐ Toxic Relationships and Family Cult
⭐ Mother/daughter strained relationship
⭐ Book Series that grows and develops each character

My Thoughts:
Oooooo get ready to skip being productive. I don't know how Allison keeps coming up with such deep, well planned stories but book SIX is just as good as the first! If not better! I started this at 10pm at night and stayed up until 5am reading it. I couldn't put it down. This story does discuss cults and family mental and emotional abuse.

The twists and turns through this story are edge of your seat and you have to know what is coming next. I loved the connection in this one between the main characters (Kara + Riley). They come from similar destructive backgrounds and really relate. The volatility of Rileys mom is nerve-racking to watch unfold. I also really enjoy that there is a underlying romance to the series BUT it is no way the focus of them. It really allows you to see some of the light and love balance with the darkness tha comes with these books. Which Allison does absolutely FLAWLESSLY!

We find Quinn + Costa at the next phase of their relationship and partnership. Quinn moving to DC to work with the FBI and buying a house is such a huge part of her healing journey through the series. It's awesome to see her individual journey through these.

Allison Brennan is consistent in her depth building of characters, strong sub characters and a twisty journey for the reader. You are constantly second guessing who is first involved and how the story will unfold. It's why I love reading her books!

Synopsis:
Two people were murdered—at the exact same time, in the same gruesome manner, bodies covered in the same red poppies…but on opposite sides of the country.

With Detective Kara Quinn investigating in Oregon and Special Agent Matt Costa in Virginia, the Mobile Response Team digs deep to uncover more about each victim. What is the link between the two, and why were they targeted?

Yet their search unearths more questions than answers—until they meet Riley Pierce, the only person still alive who might be able to help them find the killers.

Soon, it becomes clear this case is nothing like they’ve seen before as their investigation leads them to the hallowed grounds of Havenwood—an eerily beautiful place rooted in a terrifying past.

As more bodies turn up, all tied to the same community, Kara and Matt are desperate to piece the puzzle together before Havenwood’s leader sacrifices everything to keep her secrets buried.

Another fast paced, twisted case. The more I read this series the more I’m addicted to these interesting characters. I can’t wait to see what’s next.

Kara and Matt are involved in investigating a cult like location. As they draw closer and more bodies start to pile up they are faced with danger coming to their door . The team has to work together to make sure they can take down a group without more people being hurt.

Kara and Matt together always make powerful team. When Riley, not just a cult member, but an important member to the cult, tries to break away, it becomes apparent that although she my be ready to leave the organization is not yet ready to let her go and will stop at nothing until she returns to her origins.

The idea of "blind loyalty" really plays out, and in the midst of it Kara and Matt try to confront their feelings for each other and decide how and if they can work together. I personally like the books without the romance, so I am hopeful future installments focus less on this.

The team dynamic in this series always works. Although Kara and Matt are the center, the supporting characters are given thing to do and there is feeling of a unit when working the crimes, which always raises the interests as the cases are solved.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher who gave me a chance to provide my thoughts!

I loved it! Great mystery! I can't believe that I've been following this author for nearly 20 years. I remember actually going to the library back then and being so excited when I found a new release in her series. The individual team members in this unit are very different from each other but when they join forces and contribute their expertise on the case everything falls together. Jumping into the minds of each agent with each new chapter is intense and riveting. I enjoyed it!

Allison Brennan's "See How They Hide" is the sixth installment in her Quinn & Costa series, delivering a gripping and intricate thriller that showcases the author's mastery of the genre. Set to release on January 2025, this novel follows FBI Agent Matt Costa and Detective Kara Quinn as they investigate two seemingly unrelated murders that share an eerie similarity.
The story's premise is compelling: two victims are found murdered in identical, ritualistic fashion, but in different states - Oregon and Virginia. This bi-coastal investigation adds a layer of complexity and urgency to the plot, keeping readers engaged as the team races to connect the dots and prevent further killings.
Brennan's strength lies in her character development. Quinn and Costa continue to evolve as complex, relatable protagonists. Their professional partnership and personal relationship add depth to the narrative without overshadowing the main plot. The supporting cast, including other members of the mobile response team, are well-realized and contribute significantly to the story's richness.
The novel excels in its exploration of a mysterious community called Havenwood, which becomes central to the investigation. Brennan skillfully weaves elements of cult dynamics and isolated communities into the narrative, adding a chilling dimension to the mystery.
Critics praise Brennan's ability to maintain suspense throughout the book, with unexpected twists that keep readers guessing until the end. The pacing is taut, balancing investigative details with action-packed sequences.
While the book can be read as a standalone, readers familiar with the series will appreciate the continued character development and references to past cases. Some reviewers noted that the complex plot might be challenging for new readers to follow at times, but most agreed that the payoff is worth it.
"See How They Hide" is a testament to Brennan's skill in crafting intricate, suspenseful thrillers. It's a must-read for fans of the series and newcomers alike, promising a thrilling ride through a labyrinth of deception, danger, and dark secrets.

I love a good cult book. This is what we have. When people start to be murdered across the country and they are left with little poppy calling cards, this crack team determines that they are connected! Flashbacks to how the trouble began on this quaint commune and turned deadly were the best part of the book. Reading about the team who helped people escape and how they are being tracked down was exciting.

This story loses a star for the petty fighting over a man and the time it took these supposed professionals to figure out the basics that were clear from the first few chapters.

Two victims, separated by thousands of miles, share a chilling connection. The methods and signatures of their murders bear a striking resemblance, hinting at an unlikely but possible link between these heinous crimes. As Detective Kara Quinn and Special Agent Matt Costa embark on an intense search for the perpetrator, they soon discover that this may not be a solitary act but a coordinated effort involving multiple individuals.

Kara, while primarily focused on the case they are investigating, can’t help but reflect on the depth of Matt’s understanding of her. By the same token, Matt can’t help but think of how fortunate he is to have Kara in his life, both professionally and personally. But again, the focus is on the case and the fact that they are both doing their best to try to prevent any further murders from happening.

Then there is something that is really strange as the case takes a different direction. There is a community called Havenwood, which in all essence is part of a small group of people that could essentially be called a cult. So how do these murders and Havenwood connect? And why they try to figure this out, Cara and Matt try to help innocent victims that are part of this unusual community. Thankfully, they meet Riley Pierce, and she has a link to Havenwood that might help them to break the case.

Allison Brennan’s latest book in her captivating series is a thrilling read. With its numerous twists and unexpected turns, the story keeps you engaged from beginning to end, leading to a riveting and satisfying conclusion.

Many thanks to MIRA and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Very well written psychological thriller! I enjoyed the juxtaposition of the main characters different approaches to the case as well. I don’t know if I’ll be continuing the series overall, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Definitely recommend giving it a read if you like murder mysteries that keep the tension high to the very last page!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my review!

I have been a big fan of other Allison Brennan Quinn and Costa books but from early on I had a feeling that this case covered a topic I am not really a fan of. I did read on to find out if I was right, and ... I was. Other than that, I do enjoy the vibe of these procedurals and will be happy to read other books in the series!
Since this is more a "me" issue I am bumping my rating up!

See How They Hide by Allison Brennan is another installment in the Quinn & Costa Thriller series. FBI agents Kara Quinn and Matt Costa investigate two eerily identical murders across the country, uncovering ties to a dangerous cult and a key witness, Riley Pierce, whose survival holds the case together. This was a high-stakes suspense that showcased Kara’s daring risk-taking against Matt’s steady, by-the-book approach. This book is perfect for fans of psychological thrillers and crime procedurals.

I am a huge fan of the Quinn and Costa series and this latest edition does not disappoint! Ms. Brennan always keeps me guessing and it is impossible to put the book down once I pick it up. Hence, I try to start at the beginning of a weekend or I may have to call in sick to work just to finish it!

I have read several books by Allison Brennan, one of them being a Kara Quinn and Matt Costa book. Allison Brennan is slowly becoming one of my go-to authors, I enjoy these characters a lot!

Years ago, I read my first Allison Brennan book, I think it was one of her first. After that book, she moved to my auto-buy list with her unique voice and strong suspense stories. The seven sins series was a personal favorite. Since then, some of the books have faltered and I lost interest a bit. However, this book reminded me of why I enjoyed Allison’s book in the first place.
The characters were complex but flawed. Kara and Matt compliment each other with her being the risk taker and him being more by the book. That makes them stronger both as feds and as a couple. I like how Riley was able to see more and show it in her picture of the pair. Kara also does an amazing job of connecting with Riley because she was honest with her and not afraid to show who she really was with her flaws.
The mystery was super with suspense and intrigue and a complex puzzle to follow. From the first murder to the cult, the action did not let up. We followed the feds as they uncovered clues in tie the “random” murders together. The flashbacks, while sparse, helped with understanding the motivations of the cult members and helped me see where everything went wrong. Again, let me jump to Riley’s sketch of how she drew the woman in charge of the cult both beautiful and ugly. I think that centered the whole story at least for Riley. She loved her previous home but saw the ugly underneath and in the end her vision would come to pass.
The ending was fitting and Riley’s part in it spectacular. I couldn’t help but wish Cal, her first love, would have come back to help her but in the end Riley learning to stand tall on her own feet was a satisfying conclusion. Before I finish, I hope this series continues but continues with the same amazing story we were brought in this book. There is one small with this book, it will be hard to find a good one to follow for my next read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for the opportunity to read this ARC.
