I normally devour a Heather Graham book in no time and love it. This one, however, I couldn't get into. Thought it was the fact that it was the third in a new series. But I tried reading the first two and couldn't get into those either. I'm not exactly sure why, but I felt no connection to the characters and as a result didn't have much interest in the story.

Bodies are turning up - beautiful young women who are going missing while visiting Paris. When one young woman is finally identified as a friend of several of the murdered girls, the story starts to slowly come out. Who would want to target these women?

While retracing the steps of some of the young women, the Blackbird team quickly realizes that many of them took the same tours, ate at the same places, and watched some of the same shows. As the connections are made, they begin to ask questions, and learn more about the women, as well as those who might have come in contact with him. With the team on the ground, they begin to visit the locations where the bodies were dumped. But as they walk the grounds, they find older remains, confirming that whoever has been going after these young ladies has been doing so for quite some time.

Even in wine country, tempers can run wild. There are a few families who seem to have a feud ongoing, and are vying for the business of tourists. Can the team solve the case before fresh bodies start to appear?

What a read! I have enjoyed this series, and this latest book did not disappoint! I look forward to what Heather Graham brings forth next.

I like these books when I want something enjoyable, with a bit of suspense, a bit of location porn and an easy read. This is the third book in an offshoot series from the Krewe of Hunters (FBI agents who have extra-sensory skills) and it's all international settings but the same type of crimes. Entertaining because it's pulling in historical crimes from outside the US so you get a bit of a European true crime history flair. There is a formula to them but it's one that works and I look forward to the next one!

I received an e-arc from the publisher and Netgalley.

Legacy of Blood by Heather Graham is a thriller set against the eerie backdrop of the French countryside. Special Agent Jeannette LaFarge and Detective Daniel Murray make for a compelling duo as they unravel a string of grisly murders inspired by the infamous Elizabeth Báthory. The atmosphere is dark and suspenseful. Graham's blend of historical horror and police procedural keeps you hooked, though some parts feel a bit predictable. Overall, it's an entertaining read that fans of paranormal thrillers will enjoy.

Thank you Heather Graham, Harlequin Trade Publishing, and Netgalley for the advanced copy!

Special Agent Jeannette LaFarge is called in to investigate a vineyard in the Reims region of France where bodies are discovered. These bodies are completely drained of all their blood. She and her partner, Daniel Murray, use all their resources to find the vampire killer.

I have been a fan of this author for 30 years or more…yes I am that old. Even though this is not my favorite series it is still very unique and entertaining. She has a lot of history thrown into this suspenseful tale and this just adds more to the mix!

I love that there are quite a few suspects. And some are a bit strange and not quite what you expect. But these two investigators are not letting anything get in their way!

Need a good suspenseful, vampire tale…or is it? THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today.

I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review.

Whenever I see a Heather Graham book up for grabs, I do not hesitate. I grab it. I want to thank NetGalley and and Mira for the opportunity to read Legacy of Blood (The Blackbird Files, #3).

Special Agent Jeanette LaFarge is on her way to Paris, not for a wine tasting, but to discover why murder victims are being drained of their blood. History is repeating itself, and it’s not vampires that are running the countryside.

I am familiar with the Krewe of Hunters and am excited to meet the team of Blackbirds.

Jeanette will be paired up with Daniel Murray, who is new to being a ghost whisperer. They will need all the help they can get to discover who is behind the killings.

It didn’t take me long to single out one suspect, among the many others. I find out I am right about her and to discover those she is working with, that was not so easy.

I love ghost whisperer novels, where the ghosts are peripheral characters that help solve the mystery. To have some romance thrown in adds another element, and I am not surprised because of how closely the characters work together.

We have plenty of danger and suspense as the complex mystery deepens and I am all in.

I have really enjoyed Graham's Krewe of Hunters series and I had really high hopes for this series. One of my favorite parts of her books has always been her way of making the settings come alive so I was especially excited to read this one as who doesn't love a Parisian setting. I did really love the setting and I enjoyed Jeanette's focus of thinking of the victims' mindsets as young women who were on dream trips to Paris.

That said it took me awhile to get into this book. The prose felt a bit blocky and a lot of the history came in info dump style which slowed the pace down for me considerably. While I liked Daniel and remember him from previous books Jeaneatte was a bit lower personality and took me longer to warm up to and feel a connection with.

This series has a lot of promise and I have had a lot of good experiences with Graham's books. This was definitely not one of my favorites and took me awhile to get pulled into the story. I'll read more of the series but it probably isn't top of my list.

Young women are being found on the side of the road, drained of blood. Is it the work of a modern-day vampire? Or someone who admires the bloody Countess Bathory? The Krewe of Hunter's Bluebird team is in Paris and the wine country of Reim to find out and to hopefully stop any more deaths. Agent Jeannette LaFarge and Detective Daniel Murray are lead investigator and will need all of their wits about them to solve this one.

The Krewe Of Hunter's series by Heather Graham is one of my favorite series. I love the action, suspense, danger, romance, and the ability of the agents to see/hear ghosts that help them in their investigations. I'm still sussing out the Blackbird team, and haven't yet read all the books in the series, but I'm enjoying what I've read so far.

Many thanks to Harlequin Trade Publishing/Mira and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor or expectation.

Young women are turning up dead in French vineyards.

Special Agent Jeannette LaFarge’s first assignment with the European-based branch of the FBI’s Krewe of Hunters, known as Blackbird, has her tasked with investigating a string of deaths, young women whose bodies have turned up near vineyards in the storied French region of Reims. Like other members of both the Krewe and Blackbird, Jeannette has the ability to see and communicate with the dead; these abilities are not acknowledged outside of their group, but are a valuable addition to their investigative skills, particularly when cases have a decidedly unusual bent. In this case, the three young women found have been drained completely of blood. While the press is trumpeting out the possible existence of vampires, Jeannette and her team are not inclined to agree. As Jeannette gets to know her new colleagues, especially her partner Daniel Murray (a new addition to Blackbird as well, having just discovered his own special gift on Blackbird’s last case when he still worked for the National Crime Agency of Scotland), she and the team discover connections between the three victims. Why were they targeted, and by whom? Is there a connection between the deaths of the women and the wineries in whose vineyards their bodies were found? As Jeannette sees similarities between this case and that of the the infamous Elizabeth Báthory aka The Blood Countess, who in the 16th century was accused of killing scores of young women and bathing in their blood. Is someone in the present day following in that alleged serial killer’s footsteps? There are quite a few possible suspects, including some haughty winemakers who consider themselves superior to the rest of the world….but sometimes evil hides behind a pleasant smile.
This is the third installment in the Blackbird Files, the latest offshoot of prolific author Heather Graham’s Krewe of Hunter series. The story follows the usual pattern of the preceding books, with newly paired agents feeling their way through a new partnership which just may have been arranged for reasons not entirely random (since these partnerships frequently end up being of a personal as well as a professional nature). Jeannette and Daniel are both young and new to Blackbird (and in Daniel’s case, new to the Krewe of Hunters as well). The setting is glamorous, in the vineyards of Reims known mostly for its many producers of champagne as well as periodically in Paris. Characters from the previous Blackbird books make an appearance, but this story focuses mainly on Jeannette and Daniel, as well as on two spirits with whom they connect who prove helpful in their investigation. This novel felt a bit more formulaic than the first two; its a quick read and an interesting premise, but the characters aren’t terribly well-developed. Readers of the Krewe of Hunters books and/or the Blackbird Files will likely want to pick this up, and fans of authors like Kay Hooper, Jayne Ann Krentz and Catherine Coulter might also find it of interest. My thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing/MIRA for allowing me early access to this novel.

A crew of special agents with the code name Blackbird are brought in when several people are found dead in the vineyards of Reims, France drained of their blood. These special agents have unique talents, they can talk to spirits. As they start their investigation, they soon realize that they are dealing with a serial killer or killers. They explore the family vineyards of Reims and the nightlife of Paris. I really enjoyed this book, mainly for the locations. I have been to Paris and Reims and it brought back memories of my visits. My only negative was the ending came together a little too quickly.

‘We all came seeking the light, and all they found was...darkness.’

Team Blackbird lands in Paris in this outing featuring an old face from the previous two installments, Daniel, a Scottish policeman now a full fledged Krewe member who has only recently come into his ‘powers’ of seeing the dead and an American agent newly assigned to the team that hasn’t met any of them yet. I enjoyed the story even though we were repeatedly subjected to the Bathory legend over and over again and once again the whole ghostly point of the team seemed to be downplayed with only minor interactions with two ghosts leading up to the big finale.

Blackbird soars again, this time in France where murders reminiscent of Elizabeth Bathory, the Blood Countess, are happening. The wine country of Reims is the main area with some action happening in Paris as well. Keeps you guessing until the reveal at the very end. Again, Blackbird soars.

This has been my favorite of the blackbird files. For the most part they investigated the possibilities with a little bit of help from ghosts. The story unfolded nicely. While they referenced some of the other events in the series it wasn't necessary to have read those books to enjoy this book. It is a great summer/beach read.

Paranormal Police Procedural Romantic Suspense set in France in which an FBI agent and detective, who's unit all have unique abilities, track down the person copycatting the infamous "vampire" Elizabeth Bathory.

4/5 stars: This is the third entry in Graham's Blackbird Files series, which is a Paranormal Police Procedural Romantic Suspense that takes place in France and features an American FBI agent and a Scottish detective, who are members of the European branch of a special international unit whose members all have psychic abilities their's being the ability to speak to ghosts, as they track down a killer exsanguinating young women a la the infamous "vampire" Elizabeth Bathory. With plenty of twists and turns, Graham has crafted a police procedural mystery that's fast-paced yet balances the suspects, clues and red herrings and will leave you on the edge of your seat until the final reveal. I really appreciated how Graham explored the different opinions about the history behind the “legend” of Elizabeth Bathory. And of course Graham's character work is excellent; the characters are well-rounded and complex while remaining incredibly likable. I very much enjoyed meeting Jeanette and getting to know Daniel more and seeing the work together. This is very much a police procedural mystery with the romantic relationship in the background (the sex scenes are fade to black). I love the paranormal elements, especially the attention paid to the history of the ghost characters. Due to the sensitive topics tackled, take care and check out the CWs. While you could read this as a stand-alone, you'll gain so much more by reading the series from the beginning; so be sure to pick up book one, Death Behind Every Door. If you'd like to read more from this “universe”, this is a spin-off of the Blackbird series (Whispers at Dusk, BK 1) and the Krewe of Hunters series (Phantom Evil, BK 1).

I received this eARC thanks to Harlequin Trade Publishing | MIRA in exchange for an honest review. Publishing dates are subject to change.

Blood Countess!!

Elizabeth Báthory, was the historical focus of this Krewe installment. Lots of commentary on this women’s history mirroring the murders going on in Paris wine country. A mystery that keeps you guessing. Of course there are always a few ghosts around to help out in time of need. An adventure to remember!!

Love this series. If you like edge of your seat, can’t put it down until it’s finished reads this one’s for you! This is Daniel and Jeanette’s story. When they are sent to France to hunt a “vampire “ they seek out help to find the clues they need. The uniqueness of their informers is what makes them special.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you for allowing me to review

This book is set in France. Bodies have been found drained of blood and as the investigation continues more bodies are turning up. There is a mystery that has a little help from ghosts to solve it. Along with the mystery there is a lot of history woven into the story. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

This latest book in the new Blackbird series takes us to Paris, and follows a murderer who is emulating Elizabeth Bathory—which is so intriguing. We have a new hero—Daniel, whom we’ve been introduced to in the previous book. I’m very much enjoying this series, and woukd love more of Daniel and Jeannette. Absolutely a must read!

I’ve been reading this author for literally decades, and I was happy to start this one as I’ve been reading about the Krewe et al for a while. I started this and was drawn in pretty quickly. From then on, though, I was entertained but not drawn in too much. I didn’t really feel the chemistry between the two main characters, the way they “found” a lead was a little too deus ex machina, and there wasn’t much paranormal at all other than talking with a couple ghosts, and that even seemed a little blah. I don’t know if it’s because I feel like I’m in a book slump at the moment, or I’m just not feeling the need to read (that hardly ever happens). Overall, this book is well-written, interesting, and has a good plot, but it just felt a little too contrived and if I read the history of Elizabeth Bathory one more time, I would have thought it was six times too many. This book is OK to me but not bad at all even if this review reads like it’s awful, it’s not. 3 ½ stars. It’s OK. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Heather Graham has always been my favorite author. Sadly I have noticed with the Blackbird books they are not as good as her Krewe of hunters books. They are repetitive, the detectives kept going back to the same places and doing the same things. The romantic element has also decreased.
