I haven't read Some Quiet Place, so Where Silence Gathers was my first introduction into this world where emotions are personified into beings. It's a neat concept that I think is strong enough to carry Alex Tate's struggle with moving on after her family's death. The other subplots— a quasi-romantic triangle with Revenge and Forgiveness, the thriller/mad science plot that makes up the last third or so of the book— detracted from this. The result is a book that tries to be a little bit of everything, and it doesn't work. My Kindle tells me I read this about 6 years ago, and I don't remember anything except the dog's name.
