Vera's past comes back to haunt Bridget and Cole...
Bitter House expertly weaves a tale of mystery, tension, and unexpected twists. The dynamics between Bridget and Cole add layers of intrigue, making it impossible to put down. The narrators, Lauren Ezzo, and Melanie Carey were wonderful!! I thoroughly enjoyed the tones and inflections used. I could especially feel the emotions in their tones. Very well done! Every page had me on the edge of my seat, and the secrets unveiled were both shocking and satisfying. This is a must-read for anyone who loves a gripping, suspenseful story!

Quick paced and suspenseful! I enjoyed the past/present perspective and a twist I did not see coming. The story flowed well and held my interest and curiosity throughout. The narration was very well done.

Maybe I’ve outgrown Kiersten Modglin. Her novels were always on my must read but the last few have not been for me. She writes fantastic thrillers but lately they seem more like romance with a little suspense involved and they’re not my favorite. This particular story has the most unlikeable main character so far in Bridget and it was a chore to get through this story. Vera’s story should have been more prominent but it seemed buried in the seemingly forced chemistry between Bridget and Cole. I usually also have no issues with narration but this was so overly dramatic that it made me cringe at times. I may have to take a break from this author for a while.

I recently finished and loved listening to *Bitter House*! It was sooo thrilling and twisty—I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. The part where Bridget was reading Vera’s diary, and the voices overlapped? Sooo cool and eerie! It really gave this audiobook depth. I was super skeptical of Cole and some of the other characters, but let me tell you, the ending blew my mind! I did not see that coming.

Another winner and probably one of my favourite of Kiersten’s to date! Full of twists and turns, toxic family traits and secrets with a side of romance.

Bridget has a tumultuous relationship with her grandmother Vera. So when she learns that Vera has bequeathed her home to Bridget she is shocked. She is further shocked to learn that it has also been left to her arch-nemesis from her childhood.

Without giving too much away, the duel timeline and plot, drip feeds a shocking and emotional story - I even shed a tear towards the end.

In true Modglin style, I was hooked form the beginning to the end. Highly recommended!

🎧 Narration by Lauren Ezzo and Melanie Carey was pitch perfect!

💌 Huge thanks to @dreamscapemedia @netgalley and @kiersten for ALC🙏🎁

Bridget’s grandmother who Bridget has had a strained relationship since she was kicked out of her childhood home, Vera Bitter, has died but her secrets are still buried but are ready for exhumation. Vera left her esteemed mansion to Bridget as this was her childhood home after her parents were tragically killed in a car accident. Unbeknownst to Bridget, Vera has also left her mansion to Cole Warner, the son of Vera’s house manager and the misery of Bridget’s childhood while living at Bitter House. As Bridget tries to navigate the thought of having to share Bitter House with the person she hates most, a letter arrives with the promise of additional letters. These letters expose Vera’s deepest, darkest secrets that neither Bridget nor Cole knew. As Bridget receives these letters, she must envision what her future has to hold for her at Bitter House and who she can trust.
This book had me intrigued from page one and was told from two POVs. This story was fast paced, and it gives the reader all the necessary information without including extra details that bogged the reader down. The secrets that continued to be revealed kept me interested and then to learn how they all connect! WOW! Vera was bitter but her hard outer core was for good reason! This story was not only a mystery/thriller there was also romance! I enjoyed the enemies to lovers' chemistry that Bridget experienced. The romance aspect was just a minor piece of this bigger story, but the pinch of spice was the perfect additive to this recipe.
I listened to the audiobook version of this book. The narrators were Lauren Ezzo and Melanie Carey, and the reading was beautifully completed. The narration was clear, and it was appropriately paced. The designation of chapter and POV changes were done clearly. The voices were appropriate for the characters that they were impersonating.
Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for allowing me to listen to this early access audiobook and for allowing me to provide my honest opinion.

Great multi-voiced audio! So many questions asked and secrets revealed!

I enjoy this author a lot and she did not disappoint.
The plot was new to me and I really liked this book. It was a quick read also for someone who doesn't like long drawn out books. I like both!!! You don't have to wait long for the book to get interesting 😉

Kiersten Modglin is an automatic read for me-ALWAYS. I already read the Bitter House as soon as it was released on NetGalley and I kind of wish, I would have waited for the audiobook to read along! The combination would have been amazing!

While at first Kiersten Modglin’s Bitter House may seem to be a bit on the short side, it’s extremely well paced and absolutely packed with intrigue. When Bridget’s parents died, she went to live with her grandmother, Vera Bitter, whose home was known as Bitter House. Vera wasn’t exactly the kindly old lady type, and when Bridget finished school she was quickly shown the door. So Bridget is shocked when years later, after Vera dies, she finds out she’s been left Bitter House in Vera’s will. But there is a catch, the house hasn’t been left solely to her. It’s also been left to Cole Warner, the son of Vera’s house manager, and a person Bridget loathed as a kid. Not long after arriving, Bridget begins to suspect something is quite right and she begins to suspect she didn’t really knew her grandmother as well as she thought. Then the first letter arrives, promising to reveal secrets she never knew. I must admit that going in I wasn’t sure what to expect, but since I’ve enjoyed so many of Modglin’s other novels I was more than happy to go along for the ride. And am I glad I did. Bitter House has a well-crafted plot and here there are plenty of twists, turns, and tension to be experienced. Lauren Ezzo and Melanie Carey both deliver excellent narration. 4.5 stars out of 5. As I said, Bitter House may be a bit on the short side, but that only means you’ll be able to listen to the entire thing is a single day, like I did, because once you start you won’t want to stop until it’s over. I’d like to thank Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to an advanced copy of the audio version of Bitter House.

I absolutely could not put this down! I loved the mystery of the letters and loved the characters. And Cole? Swoon. Thank you for the chance to review this book!

This one was unlike Kiersten's others, in my opinion. I didn't feel the urge to get to the end as I usually do with her books. But even though it was a slow burn, I really enjoyed it.

A mysterious story of the past life.
When her grandmother dies and she finds out she's not the only one to inherit the home she grew up in. Two childhood friends or foes come together in this big old home left to them only to discover the mysteries about Eva Bitter's past.

I thoroughly enjoyed this audio book. It was very captivating and a little bit creepy I had to listen in one sitting. I'd highly recommend it, it's quite more than inspiring in the end!!

Modglin does it for me every time! She writes the best romance thrillers. This is now my fifth book of hers that I’ve read. I can’t get enough of her punchy, popcorn stories. This one in particular I found myself connecting to emotionally. I really liked the main characters and the way their relationship developed. I was totally invested in what was happening with this house. Her stories are always so addicting and compulsively readable. I’ll be reading everything she writes in the future and I’m hoping to work through some more of her extensive backlist as well. I listened to the audiobook and, as always, it was done really well. I thought the narrator captured the voice of the main character well and was able to create a tone that amped up the suspense. If you like creepy old estates, family drama and secrets, I definitely recommend this one!

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the audio book in exchange for an honest review!
Vera Bitter was a rich woman that kept to herself in her giant house with her assistant Edna. When her daughter and son in law due in a car crash, She raises her granddaughter, Bridget, until the day she leaves for college when Bridget is promptly kicked out of the house. When Vera dies, Bridget is surprised to find out that Vera left her the house in her will. When Bridget arrives to Bitter House, ready to go through her grandmother's belongings and sell the house, she is surprised to find out the house was left to another person as well. While the 2 of them are figuring out how to proceed, mysterious letters begin showing up detailing secrets about her grandmother.
I love the premise of this book, but I honestly found it a little boring. I kept waiting for something to happen and to be blown away by a twist or two that I have come to love from KMod's books. This was all very predictable to me and just wasn't my favorite book by Kiersten Modglin. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't great.

Another Kiersten Modglin book?? Count me in!! Definitely did not disappoint. 3.5 stars.

As soon as I saw this available, I rushed to request the audiobook. One thing I love about Kiersten, she always has the best narrators that don’t take away from the story. Kiersten’s books are always short fast paced reads.

From the beginning I was invested in the hat Bridget was going to do. Then the letters started arriving and I was hooked. I tried guessing, but I was wrong and when the twist was revealed I enjoyed how it was revealed. Each secret had me turning pages and asking more questions until I figured it out.

My dislikes solely revolved around Cole and Bridget’s relationship. The bickering felt childish and drawn out and at no point until the end did I feel that acted like adults with eachother.

Another thrilling must listen to audiobook from Kiersten!

Thanks so much NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ALC.
