This story had everything you want in a murder mystery, if you're a CSI or Law & Order fan this is the read for you. We have Grace who is the PO for offenders, she is also having some work issues, along with just going through a divorce, and raising a teen girl. Any of those would cause a person to snap or go crazy but not Grace she just keeps going because she takes her work serious. Suddenly there are offenders being brutally murdered and Grace thinks the murders are all connected, so she starts looking into things that she shouldn't have.

I would love to see this as a series and keep up with these characters I feel like that could really be a great read.

Vengeance Street by Louise Sharland and narrated by Alison Campbell is a stunning, refreshing angle in crime fiction in that it is written from the POV of a probation officer.
Add to that a powerful narrative, compelling and skilled narration by Alison Campbell and you have a belter of an audiobook!

The story revolves around Grace (probation officer) her daughter, the local church, and an ex-client of Graces. Graces daughter begins to frequent the church more and more frequently and Grace goes down to see what the attraction is, and when she sees her old client, her suspicions (and fears) are immediately ignited.

A unique and tense storyline that will have you adhered to your earbuds start to finish. So very good that the eBook is also on my to buy list for a re-read!

Highly recommended for fans of any type of crime fiction and a good read!

Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media, Louise Sharland and Alison Campbell for this powerful ALC. My review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own

This book had a bit of a slow start and at times felt more like a family drama than a crime thriller, but all the action packed into the last 20% of the book went a long way into making this an exciting read!

Like many thrillers, the relationships between its characters were a bit ugly. Grace’s relationship between her ex-husband and current boyfriend was cringy for me, and the struggle between her and her teenage daughter was heartbreaking. There were several characters with sad and broken pasts, and the story was aptly named as these were the ones looking to enact vengeance on the people they felt were responsible.

I wish there would’ve been a little more focus on the crimes and mystery and less on Grace’s messy life, but overall this was a decent read!

Thank you to Dreamscape Media for providing this audiobook for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

When sex/assault offenders become victims of assault and murder themselves does anyone care? Probation Officer Grace Midwinter has connections to all of them and starts looking for answers in all the wrong (and right) places to find answers. The investigation gets more than personal when one of the offenders has secretly befriend her 15yoa daughter.
Audiobook narrator was great, (as in American, I love British accents!).
thank you NetGalley and Bloodhound Books

I liked that this thriller was from the POV of a probation officer, it was a different twist than a detective or PI or something like that. I felt the story was well done with many layers that ended up bringing Grace's personal life into the whole mess. And the rebellious teenager with divorcing parents really added some intrigue to it. Throw in a kind of creepy church and you have a thriller that was really well done.

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC audiobook!

Grace is a probation officer in a bit of a jam. Her career is hanging by a thread because of a terrible mistake. And now her clients are dying in horrible circumstances. Grace has an idea of what is happening but no one will listen. She knows she is fighting the clock!

Boy! Grace is someone I would want on my side! She is smart and tough but her home life is a disaster! She is struggling through this case and her teenage daughter has put herself right in the middle of it.

This is very close to a five star read for me. The only reason this is a four star is because I figured it out. I guess I should be surprised at the ending or at least have more than one suspect. But y’all! This book moved like lightening and has wonderful intensity.

The narrator, Alison Campbell, could not have been better. Excellent!

Absolutely fantastic!

Grace is a probation officer who genuinely cares about her cases and tries to look beyond the crime to the person within, to help them to be their best selves and rebuild their lives.

When some of the reformed sex offenders that Grace previously worked with are murdered, she steps outside of the job description to try and find the killer.

Grace is also concerned about her teenage daughter, who is being drawn into the toxic clutches of the local church and when she herself goes along, to try and discover what is drawing her in, she is shocked to find another of her ex-clients has started volunteering with the church, who in their naivety and desperation to recruit people into their beliefs have neglected to carry out background checks on the man.

As Grace starts to put the pieces together, the tension and suspense is crazy!

Alison Campbell narrated this book brilliantly and really brought Grace to life.

5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Louise Sharland and Dreamscape for an ARC in return for an honest review.

A tense novel about a probation officer who is being set up for failure. Office politics are compounded by the bureaucracy of public institutions, a jealous ex-husband, a teenage daughter, local church do-gooders, and a docket full of sex offenders. At times I found it difficult to tell the current vs former parolees apart (too many characters or similar situations), but it was not hard to follow the gist of the story.
It’s a different perspective from the usual police procedural and I enjoyed learning more about the parole system (in England). Very believable writing about a teen girl as well as the other characters. Lots of red herrings and, while I had a feeling who the bad guy was, the way in which things played out was a surprise. 4.5 rounded up. I will definitely read more in this series and/or by this author.
My thanks to the author, publisher, and #NetGalley for providing an audiobook for review purposes.

Vengeance Street is quite the ride. There are many moving parts which all come together in a final bang.

I found the characters to be very flawed and interesting, if a bit annoying at times (especially Jodie), but they're colorful and you get drawn into the narrative.

Solid story.

It took a while for the story to get really interesting but when it picked up it was pretty quick. I didn’t suspect who it was until it was made obvious. The author did a great job at pulling the pieces together.
