I generally enjoy this series but this one wasn’t my favorite. The actions of one of the Amish teenagers felt too far out for them to be believable. And the ending felt rushed and overly complicated. I did enjoy Jethro the pig’s antics and the giant Candyland game.
A nice, holiday addition to the series that will keep you guessing whodunnit right up til the end. Plenty of holiday touches make this an enjoyable seasonal read.
"Gingerbread Danger (An Amish Candy Shop Mystery #9)" by Amanda Flower is set around Christmas time, mostly the week before, as Bailey's town is set up as a life size Candyland Board. Family's come to play the life-size version of the game and get some sample of Bailey's candy. Of course, the organizer had a game piece put on top of Bailey's Candy Factory which Bailey was worried about hurting someone.
Just that happens, the young man who works for Bailey fell off the roof with the piece when he was supposed to be taking it down for her. Bailey is more worried that it wasn't an accident. The young man had a bit of a rough past but his sister is one of Bailey's best employees.
On top of all that, Bailey's parents are in town for Christmas. Her mom is anxious to get started on wedding planning. Her mom even hired a wedding planner behind Bailey's back. Oh, families, gotta love them sometimes.
In this ninth installment of the Amish Candy Shop Mystery series, Bailey, the owner of a bustling candy shop, is overwhelmed with the holiday rush. On top of that, she’s been roped into volunteering at the village square celebration. Then things take a darker turn when a suspicious death occurs on the property of the candy factory. Of course, Bailey needs to investigate.
This book does a great job of giving us a look into the Amish lifestyle and how the Amish and English coexist in the fictional Harvest, Ohio. Add to that a healthy dose of mystery, family and relationships with some surprises at the end for a well-rounded story.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of the book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I enjoy this series. I'm glad the MC finally put her foot down on 1 thing, hope she does it more often. I like the characters and the setting. The mystery kept me guessing.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for an honest review. .
Gingerbread Danger is the 9th mystery in Amanda Flower's amazing Amish Candy Shop Mystery series. This series is one of my current favorites, so I was excited to read the latest installment.
The book exceeded my high expectations. Gingerbread Danger is the best cozy mystery I've read so far this year (and I've read quite a few of them!). It is an excellent addition to the series.
The Christmas holiday and a Candy Land-themed festival in the town square serve as a backdrop for the story. Bailey's candy factory is preparing treats for the festival. One of Bailey's Amish employees has a fall, but when her law enforcement fiancé investigates, he suspects foul play.
Bailey gets caught up in the mystery. She uncovers long-held community secrets, family secrets, and clues aplenty. The characters are well-written and complex, and the mystery is well-plotted.
The book is full of Flower's good humor and includes several poignant moments that brought tears to my eyes. The climax contains a gasp-worthy moment that will have Amish Candy Shop fans on the edge of their seats.
Good books always make you feel something; Gingerbread Danger did that for me. I wish I enjoyed all books as much as I enjoy the books in this series. This was another home run for Amanda Flower. I can't wait to read the next one.
Thanks to Net Galley and Kensington for the advanced reading copy. All opinions are my own.
I was completely drawn into this mystery. Amanda Flower is my favorite Cozy Mystery Author and Gingerbread Danger didn’t disappoint this reader. I found it to be an easy read and a page turner. Readers waited until close to the books ending before the Whodunnit was revealed . I was clueless as to who the killer was . This book had everything that I love to find in a cozy mystery. I highly recommend Gingerbread Danger to readers of Cozy Mystery and to fans of the Author.
Christmas is fast approaching and Bailey is busy with her new factory and Swissman Sweets. Margot has created a giant Candyland experience in the square and she asked one of Bailey's employees to add a large gingerbread man to the top of the factory. When he is supposed to take it down, he falls off the roof to his death. But the fall doesn't look like the real manner of death. Aiden investigates, along with break-ins that have been happening in the community. Just when it seems the crime is solved, the break-ins continue. Lots of possibilities of who the mastermind could be and the ending a surprise. I enjoyed this book. Love these characters and Jethro, who is always a star, makes a new camel friend. A fun read.
I usually love the books in the Amish Candy Shop Mysteries series, but this one fell short in quality. Perhaps it’s because I received an ARC from NetGalley rather than the final product, but there were numerous editing errors. Many sentences felt repetitive, with ideas being slightly rephrased but essentially restating the same thing, and entire paragraphs seemed misplaced or like alternate versions of earlier sections. The story didn’t start well for a cozy mystery—while it’s expected that a murder occurs, a teenage victim made it hard to maintain the lighthearted small-town vibe. Additionally, several characters felt flat and unnecessarily mean, serving more as plot devices than well-rounded figures. The gingerbread thing was also used in a completely non-cozy way, I can see there is really not the author's favorite candy. That said, the recurring characters are still enjoyable, and it’s nice to see Bailey’s life continue to evolve. I’ll definitely keep up with the series and hope they do a better job with editing before the book’s official release.
No one does cozy like Amanda Flower. Add an Amish small town, candy, wonderful characters, a tiny pig named Jethro, and the Christmas holiday, and you are in for an interesting holiday journey! Bailey's new candy factory is up and running for its first holiday season, Margot has a huge Candyland game set up on the square, and is demanding Bailey's help, Juliet keeps insisting that she pigsit Jethro and her parents are in town for the holidays. The last thing Bailey needs is for one of her employees to fall off the roof of the factory while putting up a decoration Bailey doesn't want, but Margot instructed him to install. When the young man dies, there are questions; did he fall, or was he pushed? Why was he in trouble? How will this affect Bailey's new business? Will Bailey and Aiden have any time together for the holidays? Did Bailey's mom really hire a wedding planner? How this all comes together, with help from all of our favorite people, makes for a great holiday read! Thank you to #Netgally, #Kensingtonbooks, and the author for a chance to read. #GingerbreadDanger #AmandaFlower #bookreview #bookideas #retiredreader
This is the first time I have read this author and I really loved this cozy mystery. This story about Bailey who is engaged to the new Sheriff Aiden and she is opening her own candy shop in Harvest. Bailey is also involved with her TV cooking shows. One of Bailey's is murdered on her property. She is the amateur sleuth and a good one at that. IN between running her shop and sleuthing she keeps busy. In the meantime a lot of the Amish businesses are being robbed., the bride and groom's mothers are planning their wedding. She also babysits her future mother in laws's pet pig Jethro. This is A GREAT COZY MYSTERY . Read to see who done it.
In Amanda Flower's Gingerbread Danger Bailey has opened the new candy factory and business is booming, she's even hired new people to be able to manage it. One of those new people is Zeph who tends to be distracted easily and Margot manages to distract him by asking him to go onto the icy roof to place a game piece for the festival that is happening in the square. Bailey requests that he take the piece down he manages to fall to his death in what appears to be an accident. However, when Zeph's Robin Hood tendencies come to light and extra foot prints are found on the roof, the accident doesn't seem quite as accidental.
I enjoyed this book quite a bit. I thought that the expansion to Swissmen Sweets was totally welcome and along with that all the new characters. I really like that Aiden is the sheriff and we have one less person making Bailey's life frustrating. I did get annoyed at the fact that Bailey has no backbone to say no to things that others make her do. I guess I just have to accept that so I don't get as irritated by it but it is quite hard. Otherwise the book was really great. My favorite part was finding out that a character that people think is bad was actually good, they just had a problem. I also thought the mystery was hard enough to figure out where I didn't feel bored by it. I recommend this book to anyone who likes cozy mysteries and small town mysteries.
Thank you to NetGalley, Kensington Publishing, Kensington Cozies, and Amanda Flower for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Right off the bat Jethro is into trouble again. The pig really steals the show, and camel Melchior is back to provide entertainment as well, in between his duties at the nativity scene. All the animal characters are really fun.
I enjoy a Christmas themed mystery, and I'd love to play the giant Candyland game. Such a fun idea! The mystery itself had me glued to the page wanting to know what would happen next.
There's the usual candy recipe at the end. I've never had a gingerbread flavored fudge, should be a fun one to try.
Gingerbread Danger is Amanda Flower's delightful holiday addition to the Amish Candy Shop Mystery series. I know I am in for a treat when reading this cozy series, and this one is particularly fast-paced and engaging.
Baily King is opening her candy factory, in addition to the Amish Candy Shop on the Square, and her television show, Bailey’s Amish Sweets. To say she is "busy" is an understatement, but when her soon to be Mother in Law asks her to babysit Jethro---she agrees. His piggy antics are hilarious and a nice break from the tension created by the murder. Margot is in charge of seeing that the Square is decorated to resemble the Candyland board game---plus she demands that Baily make all the candies for the event.
This story line pulled me at the start and kept me tuned in until the end.
Thank you to NetGalley for sending me the e-ARC that I requested to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

It's always fun to hang out with Bailey and Jethro, albeit it'd probably be exhausting in real life. And, oh,, Jethro is a pig, an absolutely adorable little pig that seems to find something to get into no matter how well Bailey and the rest monitor him. He isn't even Bailey's. I adore him but, no, don't want a pig, even one as cute and personable as Jethro. He does manage to make friends everywhere he goes, however, some of them surprising. Oh, you're going to have to read the book to discover Jethro's latest new best friend.
This has become a favorite series and the mix of Amish and non-Amish characters adds to the fun. Okay, and occasionally misunderstandings and havoc but, hey, no one's perfect. I enjoy the characters although keep waiting for Bailey to stiffen her backbone and stop allowing others to take advantage of her so often. It isn't like she doesn't have enough going on in her life. Not only is she dealing with Margot blasting orders constantly and Juliet's tendency to drop off Jethro for Bailey to pig-sit without notice, but she's dealing with her candy shop crews, fiance Aiden Brody being distracted by a rash of robberies despite the imminent arrival of her parents , and then, oh, my, one of her employees falls to their death from the roof of her building. Was it a horrible accident or murder? Who'd have wanted to kill Zeph? Bailey being Bailey, of course, finds herself unable to stop investigating. Will her questioning get her in trouble? Danger? Hey, this is a cozy mystery, so I'm sure you can guess.
Bottom line, Amanda Flower's Amish Candy Shop Mystery series has become a favorite. This one kept me guessing until the very end, too, not to mention chuckling over Jethro's antics. Flower's ability to weave side stories into a whole continue to impress and despite the quirky, sometimes overbearing characters that surround Bailey, they're all likable. Even the various animals have well-rounded out personalities, Jethro maintaining his status as top pig, of course. It seems like we got to know Bailey's parents a bit more this go-round than in the past, so another plus, albeit her mother's actions may drive Bailey to distraction, especially when Juliet (Aiden's mother) gets in on the plan. So, a solid mystery that will keep you guessing, intriguing characters from both the Amish and non-Amish community, lovable critters, family pressures, and, well, a life-sized Candy Land game courtesy of Margot (which actually sounds like a blast). Thanks #KensingtonPublishing - #KensingtonCozies for allowing me to drop in early on Bailey's holiday, even if trying to keep up with her is enough to make ones head spin. It was fun!
In Amanda Flower's An Amish Candy Shop Mystery series she manages to engage the reader not only in the mystery but also in the culture of the Amish community in Harvest, Ohio in which the series is set. 'Gingerbread Danger', the latest offering in the series the town is plagued by theft and everyone is feeling insecure, both Amish and Englischer alike. The mystery is absolutely gripping while the story is peppered with interfering parents wanted to advance the wedding process for Aiden and Bailey's nuptials. Throw in Jethro the pig and one has a thoroughly entertaining read, one of the best so far. I highly recommend the entire series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
Bailey King is a busy woman! She is an Amish candy shop owner. She is the star of Bailey's Amish Sweets. She is newly engaged. She is opening a candy factory! She is excited and happy!
Bailey is involved with the Candy Land themed Christmas on the village square, ran by Margot Rawlings. This will bring more business to the Amish candy shop and factory while also helping the economy of Harvest, Ohio. When there is an accident at the factory involving the death of Zeph Lantz, it looks like Bailey's business to blame. Bailey will investigate to find out who is responsible for the death of Zeph.
All the favorite characters come back in this novel, including Jethro the pig!
Gingerbread Danger was a nice addition to the Amish Candyshop series. It’s Christmas in Harvest and Bailey is in the middle of the life size Candy Land display, Christmas season at the fudge shop and factory, a visit from her parents, and now a murder. Jethro is, as usual, in the thick of things. A nice way to begin my holiday reading!
This is a fast paced cozy mystery with a few chuckles sprinkled in. I love the characters in this series, and the plot captivated me from the start. Lots of moving parts to solve the mystery, but when all the pieces line up it was a great finish. Highly recommend for all cozy mystery lovers.

Christmas is fast approaching in the Amish town of Harvest, Ohio, and if you make sweets for a living it's the busiest time of year meaning Bailey King and her staff are working long hours at her candy factory. She is also helping local organising supremo, Margot Rawlings with her main square Christmas celebrations, pigsitting Jasper for her future mother-in-law, and planning for her parents visit over the festive season.
When her factory roof is used, without her permission, for part of Margot's life-sized display, Bailey demands its removal. Unfortunately, after the discovery of a body nearby, Bailey’s fiance and local county sheriff, Aiden Brody, tells her it will have to remain in situ until he says otherwise! With details about the victim and their somewhat dubious private life emerging, Bailey is determined to help Aiden solve the case even though he is adamant he doesn't need the assistance! As she tries to concentrate on all the different aspects of her days, will Bailey be aware of the danger moving ever closer from unexpected quarters?
I was able to read an advanced copy of this thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, Kensington Publishing and Kensington Cozies, but the opinions expressed are my own. Book nine in this series was my first visit to Harvest but it definitely won't be my last. I thoroughly enjoyed this and recommend it highly.
