This is the third entry into this Irish detective series and not my favorite. I love the atmosphere, but the story line was just not for me. I would like more involvement from the detective. I will keep going with the series, but this one wasn't great and could be skipped if following the series.

Another great mystery in the County Kerry mystery series. Carlene O'Connor kept me on my toes with this story. Every time I thought I had it all figured out, another clue would drop and I was back at the beginning of my pondering. I had no idea who the killer was until shortly before the reveal.

I love that this story features a Shauna, it is not a super common name in Canada, so it is always cool when I see it in a story and it is spelled correctly.

Looking forward to reading the next book in the series when it has been written and released.

Book 3 in this series. I loved the first two books that let us get to know Dimpna Wilde and other characters in the village. I you have not read them I recommend that you do so. You can read this book as a stand-alone, but you will miss the various connections between the characters. To make it interesting we meet new people. I must warn you that this story is on the dark side. Detective Cormac O’Brien is neck deep into cults and a murder of a pregnant woman. Are we having a repeat of what happened twenty years prior?
What secrets are people hiding? With twists and suspects all over it will be hard to put this book down, so get submerged in the story and am already looking forward to the next one in the series.

As a long time fan of Carlene O’Connor, I devour anything she writes. This newly released YOU HAVE GONE TOO FAR is an intense read! Nothing like her cozy Irish Village series. This is the third book in her County Kerry series so it does feature the vet, Dimpna Wilde and Detective Cormac O’Brien. In this read, we’re taken along Cormac’s investigation into cults and murder of a pregnant woman. It wasn’t easy to read some parts but it is very engrossing read. As a deaf reader, I also loved how it included a deaf character! That was exciting and the author did well on discussing the communication methods with deaf people. She threw in tidbits to educate like how sign language isn’t universal so I really appreciated that! This book is very well written with twists you won’t predict — highly recommended! I can’t wait to read more from Carlene O’Connor. Thank you NetGalley and Kensington for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

Definitely not one of her cozy mysteries, the third in this series featuring the veterinarian, Dimona Wilde was quite creepy. If you have difficulty reading about murder and cults, this one is not for you. When a dead pregnant woman is found in the bog, while another pregnant woman goes missing, the Dingle community knows there is evil afoot. At the same time Shauna is kidnapped, the local police realize a cult leader that was imprisoned is now free. Is he the one involved or is it a copycat situation? The mystery is complicated, and you will be on the edge of your seat. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

This is the third installment of the series. I’m really hoping the author continues the series. This was such a different, interesting storyline. It had lots of twists. There were definitely things I hadn’t figured out. It had the right amount of creepy. I would have liked for Cormac and Dimpna to have shared the pages a little more than they did. This series is a little darker than her Irish Village books. Completely different, but still incredible. I don’t want to give away plot points, but it will have you on the edge of your seat, and keep you guessing the whole time.

I had gotten this book in audio form from the library and was halfway through when I was given an ARC from Netgalley in Kindle form. So, I listened to and read parts of the book. I will say that the narrator, Emily O'Mahony, does an excellent job telling this story. Her voice is perfect for a smooth read. My only problem is a personal one. This book is about someone who is targeting pregnant women, and that storyline really was upsetting to me. But that said the story is very well written and easy to follow. I have read the first two books in this series but I don't feel that is necessary to enjoy this book. I look forward to more in the County Kerry Mystery series.

You Have Gone Too Far is the third installment in Carlene O’Connor’s County Kerry Mystery series.

When a pregnant woman and a young boy go missing around the time a deceased pregnant woman is found in a nearby bog, Detective Inspector Cormac O’Brien must determine if it’s a copy cat imitating crimes from decades before or if the original cult leader is back. As more and more connections between the missing woman and the deceased woman begin to pile up O’Brien reaches out for help from Dimpna when it seems it might tie back to her past as well.

This book is just as atmospheric and gritty as the previous books and the story moved along at a nice pace keeping the reader engaged. Definitely looking forward to more books involving Dimpna and Cormac’s budding partnership.

O’Connor has crafted another fairly dark mystery in which young and pregnant women with complicated family situations and mysterious messages are confronted with violence and danger in County Kerry. DI Cormac O’Brien and DS Barbara Neely work, sometimes uncomfortably at odds, to solve the case, sussing out who is out to hurt others and why. O’Conner builds on the first two stories in the series, including Dimpna, the local veterinarian, on the edges of Cormac’s investigation. This is a tightly woven mystery, with every character - from the guilty to those investigating to the red herrings all contributing important elements that lead to a resolution. You Have Gone Too Far locks solidifies the more serious tone that the County Kerry Mysteries take as compared to O’Connor’s other works, branching further from the world of “cozy mystery” into the more traditional. I’m bracing myself for what this might mean for the regulars of Dingle in the future!

Thank you to Kensington Book, Kensington, Netgalley, and the author for early access to a digital copy of this solid mystery novel.

You Have Gone Too Far was my first book by Carlene O'Connor and now I can't wait to read books 1 and 2 from this series! Wonderful characters and mystery that surrounds two pregnant women in present day Ireland. There's also a tie to pregnant women from 30 years ago. I loved watching it all unfold!

I read/listened to the audio version and really enjoyed Emily O'Mahony's narration.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review. All opinions are my own.

A great read! Book 3 in this series is powerful and full of red herrings that leave you wondering what comes next. The story goes back to Dimpna's past and into present time, all connected because of pregnancy. This is a perfect can't put it down book. You will read past bedtime to know what happens next. Well written, great characters and it connects the reader to the community of Dingle.

Set about a year after book two, this well drawn, twisty police procedural/mystery is also a glimpse at life in small town and rural Ireland. I particularly enjoy the interactions of Dimpna the vet with DI Cormac, whose “allergy” to animals provides humor. The mystery kept me guessing and O’Connor’s characters are imperfect and interesting. Although it is the third book in the County Kerry series, this can stand alone. Recommended.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an eARC. All opinions expressed are my own.

This could have been a four star read if it weren't for the incredible repetitive writing (how many times do we have to read that Cormac thinks Dimpna is a "gorgeous creature"?). At times it reads as though the author forgot she'd written the exact description or phrase in earlier paragraphs.

Other than that, there are a few twists that readers might not see coming. There's a lot less about the cult and more about the search for Shauna and Dylan, which was both good and bad, as readers might question why anyone wanted to enter the Womb in the first place. How the past affects the present is more the point here, which adds to the twists in the three cases Cormac is trying to solve.

You Have Gone to Far by Carleen O’Connor is different than her other series. Darker, less cozy crime, but more serious. The third in her County Kerry series. John Sheehan, a concerned neighbor had noticed an overflowing mailbox. Stuffed in the back was a cell phone with a note attached; a missed call. Two weeks too late. A young, pregnant woman is found dead, in the bog. Another young woman stood waiting for her “friend” who never came. She went to the home of the people who would be adopting her unborn child, where she found them bound, gagged, and terrified. The local vet had accidentally run into a pregnant woman and found an odd email on the ground after she had run off. It this enough, yet?

The Garda were called. Dimpna Wilde, the vet, was called out to a farm. Her father, in the throes of dementia, had escaped and was helping birth lambs. He had not lost that! It all got very complicated. There were a couple of men recently released from prison. There was a young woman to rile up the women in town about the deaths. A riot started. A man died. How was this tied into all of this? Sgt Neely was remembering why the men got sent up in the first place. Cormac was worried. This book pulled at the reader. So many coincidences. So much death. It was at its core, a police procedural. But, the policemen have lives, too, and all that came to the fore with this tragic novel. Great characters! Good mystery! Wonderful relationships! Frightening. Covered lot of territory. Good read. She has made the leap from cozy to more serious crime.

I was invited to read You Have Gone too Far by Kensington Publishing. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #KensingtonPublishing #CarleneOConnor #YouHaveGoneTooFar

Two pregnant women disappear. One is found murdered and the other is missing. Will she have the same fate as the first woman or will killing from the past return to their town?

Carlene O'Conner has given us an atmospheric thriller that gave me goose bumps as i sped through the pages. Multiple crimes merge threads into a single mystery that must be solved before a near term woman delivers her baby into the wrong hands. Book #3 in the County Kerry series but only one of the great books O'Connor has written in her many series. I'd recommend any one of them.

You Have Gone To Far

Dimpna Wilde is in her vet practice in Kerry County Ireland. Things are going well for her as long as her brother, Ben, can keep control of her father. He retired from the practice due to his failing mental health. He is suffering from dementia and at times he forgets and wanders off generally into the clinic to try and work with the animals. Lately however there has been some odd happenings in the town of Derry. Twenty years ago pregnant women were being kidnapped and hidden in a place called Womb. Babies born there were taken from the mothers and sold. It was rarely about after the two men involved were arrested. Suddenly similar things began to happen. The chief of police,Cormac, was running himself ragged trying to find the missing women.
You Have Gone to Far will be published on October 22, 2024 by Kensington Publishing Corp. This is the third in Karlene O’Connor’s A County Kerry series. I was able to read and review You Have Gone Too Far via NetGalley. I appreciate Kensington allowing me to read the ARC of the latest Irish novel. It was quite a mystery trying to locate missing women and the young boy who was taken while he and his cronies were off on an adventure to the bog. As the first two novels were, this selection is written in Irish Gaelic phrases so sometimes it is difficult for the reader to understand. It’s an excellent suspense and well worth the effort to read. Do Enjoy!
