firstly, thank you to the publisher for an arc!
WOW! i expect nothing but fantastic storytelling with beautiful art, wholesome relationships, and gentle but important lessons anytime i pick up a work by k. o'neill -- and a song for you and i did not disappoint.
this was such a lovely story about connecting with nature and one's true self (in a way, it reminded me of the pokémon ranger games!!), paired with the stunningly whimsical art that o'neill is known and loved for.
is it selfish to ask for the next graphic novel?!
I have loved all of her books so loving this one didn’t come as a surprise. This book definitely follows the theme of most of her books that is good lessons for everyone and rare but important topics explored in cozy setting. I’m so glad she explored admiration vs crush and how that can be mistaken for each other. I’m also glad she really didn’t put a label on the queer feelings of the characters. Though, I wish we could have learned more about one of the main’s families since they kept being mentioned. I didn’t really understand the conflict. But honestly, the book was so well constructed, I think I was just wishing for more. With the beautiful illustrations and the well thought-out plot, this book is a delight.
stop why does k. o'neill make the cutest and most atmospheric books ever
such a quick and enjoyable time, you won't regret picking this up
such important messages are portrayed very inexplicately. I don't know how to describe it, but the way that O'neil gets messages across is so interesting, creative, and I love it.
4 stars because not AS good as the tea dragon society books, but seriously the art, story, characters, world is so cute and there's no way you won't like this.
Considering this a MG graphic novel, I find it absolutely fair to give it 4 stars out of 5.
It is a positive and life-affirming story that feature Rowan (more on the name in the book) and part of her coming-of-age (finding her identities, overcoming her insecurities, and building bonds with others).
I loved Kes.
Actually, all of the characters were either likeable and relatable, or interesting.
The art style is cute and the colour schemes are amazing.
I might be wrong, but in the print version, I would expect to see more layers and inking.
As an adult reader, I wish this were longer and hoping this is the first instalment of a series.
I will introduce this book to my tween child when they are a couple of years older.
One particular character's smile was a lovely detail.

Story world 4 (it has more potential - I hope the author/artist explores it further)
K O'Neill's graphic novels are always astounding but this one might have just become my favourite anyway. Not only is the artstyle so remarkably gentle, but the colour palette is perfect for the story: calming & quiet and the story is full of so much warmth. These stories might be over quickly but hold so much emotional depth. It feels like you're drinking a hot chocolate, warming your hands on the cup. A much needed warmth, a much needed joy, This is an easy read but one with messages you need to be told anyway, I can't wait to own this in March.
Rowan deserves the world, as does leone. This is as much a journey of self acceptance as it is finding friends in unlikely places, finding a home in fields of sheep.
This is an absolutely beautiful graphic novel. I love it so much! The illustrations are incredible and the story is very inspiring. Following Rose/Rowan and Leone on their journey of self discovery was lovely. I'm in awe of how such few words can express so much emotion. This story is truly amazing and sends a wonderful message. I highly recommend it!
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House for allowing me to read this ahead of release in exchange for my honest opinion.
Thank you author, publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with an eARC of this book!!
K. O’Neill just never misses. There’s something just perfect about the soft fantasy world they create in their stories.
This story is all about acceptance and confidence. Watching the characters come into their own in the beautifully crafted setting is everything! It feels so natural and heartwarming. K. O’Neill is a must read author!
I just, I love anything and everything K.O’Neill writes and I am so happy I got to read this book early. I can’t wait for this to be published and I am so excited!
This author never disappoints; K. O'Neill always presents visually beautiful stories with lovely messages, and this novel was no exception. 'A Song For You and I' is a graphic novel about acceptance, personal challenges, and friendship. It’s a very beautiful story, and I would love to explore more about these characters !!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this eARC in exchange for an honest review!
K. O'Neill is one of my favorite authors of all time, so when I saw that my ARC request was accepted, I literally raced to download this and started reading within the same minute. After immersing myself in the gorgeously serene artwork, heart-felt writing, and diverse, lovable characters that I've come to expect and adore from K, I can say without a doubt that this is a new top graphic novel for me.
The world that K created is rich and beautiful, with so many peaceful moments and soft reminders that we all need so much. Rowan's journey of discovery, Leone's pursuit of joy, and the way those two's narratives intertwine with each other and the broader world was exquisitely done. I saw so much of my own connection to my identity and passions in both of them, and could feel the love and experiences that K poured into this phenomenal story, as with each of their works. I truly treasure this book and its messages!
K. O’Neill always delivers. They’re consistent in their quality, creativity and cozy atmosphere. Like the others, this book is visually a treasure to look at if nothing else. The story is of identity, acceptance, friendship and comfort in self expression. There is a studio ghibli vibe in the scenic beauty of the illustrations and also; in the organic unfolding of the story and characters. What would it be like to have support at every turn? To offer up your vulnerabilities and be met with acceptance? O'Neill shows us.
Would recommend it to middle graders and adults alike. My Ten year old and I both enjoyed it.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!!
This was so cute. The end had me tearing up a little. I love this artist and I’m glad that they are making more graphic novels. This is a super short and full of feels. The art is beautiful as always and the story was engaging. Plenty of development and adorable characters. Can’t wait to read more!
Oh my goodness! This was just the cutest Middle-grade graphic novel. The drawings were gorgeous, I loved them so much. The characters were good, and they had amazing growth. I enjoyed this so much, it felt like a warm blanket on a cold winter night.
This is so worth reading if you like graphic novels, and has an amazing message.
Thank you to Netgalley and Random House Children's for this arc in exchange for an honest review!
This cute graphic novel follows young Rowan (formerly Rose) as they come to terms with their queer identity alongside new friend Leone. I was particularly captivated by the art style; it's my favorite thing about this book. Several pages rely solely on visuals to tell the story, and they were some of the most beautiful and impactful moments.

Overall, this novel beautifully captures an intimate journey of self-discovery with artistry that speaks volumes without a single word.
A Song for You and I is a heartwarming, coming-of-age graphic novel that features K. O'Neill's gorgeous art style and unique storylines. I have enjoyed all of O'Neill's graphic novels, and this one is no different. I love the unique storyline of the rangers and the beautiful (full color!) world they live in. The landscapes are stunning (especially those at the end), and I love the dual-page spreads. This novel has such good casual lgbtq+ representation. I enjoy the relatively sparse text, as it makes the reader rely more heavily on the images - and O'Neill has the superb ability to convey emotion/meaning through expressions. I didn't love the font - it looked out of place, as the speech bubbles and composition borders have a drawn-line quality. A more handwritten-appearing font would have been more cohesive. I also found the plot a bit meandering in the middle, but I didn't mind wandering in such a beautiful world. Cheers to everyone involved in this gorgeous graphic novel.
This one was just as adorable as the Tea Dragon Series. I loved every page and think that readers of all ages would enjoy this beautiful illustrated story!
Another great graphic novel by K. O'Neill. Usually, I'm not a fan of slow paced graphic novels, but K. O'Neill's pace made the story into a sweet lullaby. The author's art and character design is lovely as always. This is a great recommendation for young readers looking for Studio Ghibli-esque books, and most of all young readers who are great fans of The Moth Keeper and The Tea Dragon Society.
So cute! So dreamy! So cozy and comforting and beautiful! Every panel was gorgeous and made this slow-paced story wonderful.
This is a wholesome, heartwarming, beautiful book that I think everyone should read. I would love to see it animated, but it's so well done that I could imagine the art move and the sounds of the story in my head. K. O'Neill is one of my autobuy authors, and it was such an honor to read this book as an ARC. I will definitely be picking this book up for myself, and I can see myself gifting this book to people I love as well.
This was adorable. Everything you would expect from their work. I am a huge fan of everything they create so I had very high hopes for A Song for You and I. It did not disappoint. The art was cute the story was sweet and it had excellent lessons in acceptance. Can't wait to read this again and again.
