One of my favorite anime movies 😍 It feels like experiencing the story for the first time all over again. The art is great and captures the story perfectly.

**review copy provided by NetGalley but I would’ve bought this.

Thank you to NetGalley & the Publisher for giving me access to a free copy and exchange for an honest review!

This is a very cute little manga. A little weird in concept, I'm not sure I liked the object of choice, but it works. I enjoy the concepts presented in it, And it gives me a very Inuyasha vibe which is always a good thing. It starts off like a typical Shojo So you know exactly what you're getting into. I like the character design, but I wish the MFC had a little bit more nuance to her. It will be interesting to keep learning about the MMC as we go since we don't really get a lot from him in this one.

I am definitely looking forward to book 2!

The movie is 3.5 for me and since it's the same with the movie, this also is 3.5.

It's a fast read since I already saw the movie, I was able to grasp the plot quickly.

I think it's a very faithful adaptation of the movie from what I remember.

📚Suzume Vol. 1 #manga

Thanks to @netgalley for providing me with a copy of this manga💕

Rating- ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

My review💌- Do I even need to say anything about this one? I think the manga readers and #anime watchers know about the beauty of this book already 😍

I loved EVERYTHING about this anime and manga. The graphics, the animation- everything was so beautiful ❤️ I'll admit I wasn't big on anime before my friend convinced me to watch one and now I (secretly) enjoy a lot of them🤭 #suzume is honestly one of my favourite anime movies ever💕✨

Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for this e-ARC of Suzume Vol 1!

I was familiar with "Suzume" when the movie initially premiered, but I never had the opportunity to watch it. However, upon seeing the ARC available, I eagerly requested it.

The art style in "Suzume" is absolutely breathtaking. The translation is superbly done, capturing the characters' banter in a way that feels both natural and engaging. The story itself is fascinating, with a compelling narrative that left me wanting to learn more about the origins of Suzume, Souta, Daijin, and the mysterious doors.

I was thoroughly entertained throughout the entire volume. The pacing is perfect, keeping the reader hooked from start to finish. I, for one, will definitely be watching the film now, as I'm eager to discover what happens next.

I highly recommend this to fans of magical realism and fantasy manga. "Suzume" is a captivating read that should not be missed!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this e-ARC!

I didn’t watch the movie but I heard good things about it. I’m really enjoying it so far, the characters are enjoyable and the story is great.

They did not just info dump on us as well but reveal the backstory slowly.

Loved the art as well! This made me want to watch the movie now!

I watched the movie maybe 2 weeks before reading this and loved it. When I saw this on net galley I knew I really wanted to see how it compared. I think I like this format a bit better than the movie, but both are 4.5 stars for me. In the movie, it felt more comedic, but in this format, I felt more of an emotional connection to each of the characters. I was hoping to get a little bit more of a story for the side characters, but that doesn't seem like it's going to happen. I'm a little bummed about it, since these side characters clearly have stories of their own, but not too disappointed. All in all, Suzume is a touching, deep, and fun adventure about healing from trauma and Suzume finding where she fits in this world. The characters are all so very charming, the story is instantly intriguing, and the art is stunning. For anyone with a troubled past looking to find the beauty in healing and the world at large, I highly recommend this magical story.

Great graphic novel, illustrations are gorgeous and I already plan to read book two when it comes out which is high praise indeed from me. I am not what I would call an avid graphic novel reader but I’m glad that I took the opportunity to read this on netgalley but difficult to read in net galley shelf app

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of Suzume volume 1!

I actually saw the film in theaters and it is easily one of my favorite anime movies of all time. When I saw this was available as an ARC, I requested it immediately.

This story is inspired by the trauma associated with the 2011 Töhuko earthquake and tsunami. In volume 1, Suzume meets Souta and helps him prevent a natural disaster that emerges from a seemingly random door. She learns about portals to another world, the importance of keystones, and what Closers like Souta do. Daijin, a keystone-turned-cat, curses Souta to take the form of Suzume’s childhood chair (yes you read that right, stay with me). Daijin does this in order to make it harder for Souta to catch them and put them back as a keystone. Without the keystone, their world is vulnerable to the dangers of the portals. This leads Suzume and Souta on a strange yet heart warming journey of loneliness, grief, and courage.

I love the art style of this adaption and the colored illustrations are lovely. So far the manga is very faithful to what happens in film. I am hoping that future volumes will include more details beyond what the movie already has, but regardless I’m sure they’ll be great!

3.5 stars. Very cute! I adore the movie so when I saw this I hopped on it ASAP. It's book one, so it only covers part of what the movie does but I enjoyed it.

Thank you to Netgalley for the advanced copy! All thoughts & opinions are my own <3

I have never watched the movie, but had heard such great things that I knew I needed to read the manga.

The story is so interesting and I need to know more about the doors and the characters backstory’s. I love how the story slowly gives you little pieces of information, just enough to keep you hooked and needing to learn more. The main characters are both so interesting and well done. I love Suzume so much and how she just wants to help everyone.

I cannot wait to read the next volume and watch the movie!

The movie has been on my want to watch list since I first saw it on Netflix. I'm a big manga reader but I had no idea they were adapting the movie so when I saw this ARC here, I smashed the request button so fast. Beautiful artwork, beautiful story, for the book and movie alike.

I absolutely loved the movie and when I heard there were gonna be books I rushed to them. A heartwarming story that will forever remain one of my favorites from the author.

Great story! Glad this is being translated into English. The movie is great too and having the manga is a wonderful way to enjoy the art.

This was such a cute read. I haven’t read mangas in a while but it’s so nostalgic! It reminded me of Cardcaptors (the key aspect) but completely different. I was intrigued by her companion being turned into a rickety old chair that wad originally from her mother. 🥹

I haven’t watched the movie but now I want to!

I was a fan of the Suzume film (Suzume no Tojimari) and its moving story so I was really excited to see this title! Suzume tells the story of Suzume, a high school student, whose fateful encounter with a door starts a series of fantastic and nearly unbelievable events. For fans of the film, even if the soundtrack by RADWIMPS isn’t playing, you can hear it in your mind based on this faithful adaptation of the film. I absolutely cannot wait to read more!

This was a great start and I can't wait to read on. I personally haven't seen the movie but after reading this I definitely want too!

This was a super quick read that I finished in one sitting. I recommended this to someone looking for a YA sci-fi manga. Especially if you loved Your Name.

"Suzume" might be a bit familiar to some. It's also an animated film. Based off of the events of the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake, Suzume and its titular character leads us on a fantasy adventure involving a cat, a strange door and a worm that can cause earthquakes. It's an interesting start to the story and draws you into the plot as the adventure begins. I can't wait to read more.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for giving me this eArc to review.

This is one weird manga but it was actually really good. I definitely think there's one or two things that weren't needed in this plot but other than that, I enjoyed it. I liked the art a lot and I'm intrigued as to where the story will go (as this is volume 1 and there is at least one more volume).
