I requested this book from NetGalley as I was interested in seeing how the book compared to the film and although I did enjoy reading the story of Rosie and Alex, I struggled to get to grips with the format of the story, which was all written as letters, emails, etc. I thought it would be easier to get to grips with in that format, but sometimes I felt like I missed bits of the story out because of the format.
I did like Rosie and Alex though and I thought their relationship was sweet with good chemistry. In terms of the romance though, I wish it had happened quicker - this book is a slow burner.
That being said, I really enjoyed their story and despite the formatting, this was a lovely romance book to get to grips with.
I love Cecelia's books because they are never conventional. This is a romance, but not the way you think. Told through letters, I really enjoyed the story. The Irish setting is always a favorite. Thanks to Netgalley for a free copy in exchange for an unbiased review.
I'll admit, I watched the movie before I read the book. I'm so glad I did end up reading the book, though, because it was so refreshing! I was pulled into the story, and it didn't let me go until the end. I was so invested in Rosie's character, and I just really wanted her to be happy. Rosie and Alex are so raw and real, which I appreciated because you don't often get that in romance stories like this. There were one too many plot twists for me (this is a selfish criticism because my heart broke too many times). The writing was so well done, and the plot was just so unique! It challenged the male/female best friend love story trope. Such a good book!
The will they or won't they almost killed me. And I loved it. The friendship between Alex and Rosie is one to be envious of. They are always there for each other's BIG moments until the Rosie feels the need to hide the biggest. I love how supportive Alex becomes after he finally finds out about Katie. It was a great story and I wish I had gotten to it sooner.
