In this fantastic dual-timeline historical fiction novel, readers follow Evelina in 1939 Paris and Blake in modern London, two women tied together by their love of fashion and of Paris. With the recent death of her grandmother, Blake is trying to solve the secret of silver velvet and a dress design passed down over three generations. Unraveling this secret takes Blake to Paris where a fashion curator named Henri can help Blake discover her great-grandmother’s secrets and life story. As more and more information appears out of the shadows of history, Blake must decide if she wants to emulate her great-grandmother’s bravery or if breaking her heart is too much of a risk. With a beautiful emotional core to the storyline and two fantastic, brave, and creative heroines, Soraya Lane’s latest novel is fascinating, exciting, and heartbreaking. Against the backdrop of World War II and the growing Parisian fashion scene, Evelina’s story is powerful, emotional, and heartbreaking while Blake’s in modern London is also emotional and heartwarming. With some beautiful character relationships and a fascinating historical backdrop, this dual timeline historical fiction novel about two women discovering their true passion in the City of Lights is absolutely amazing, immersive, and enjoyable.

Soraya Lane has once again delivered a story that will keep you turning the pages in The Paris Daughter. It is the fifth book in The Lost Daughters series which is currently a six book series. I’m really hoping for more in this series but I’m not holding my breath. This is a wonderful series for many reasons.

The number one reason I love this series is all the places we as readers get to visit. This book takes place in Paris, France and London. London is in all of the books as the location of a home for unwed mothers. I have enjoyed all of the places and the times that we were taken to in each book.

The description of the locations makes you feel like you are there yourself. I loved the smell of the roses, the smell and feel of the ocean and the food. This book was about the fashion design in Paris. Seeing the dresses in your mind and feeling the fabrics was oh so yummy. I’m not sure how the author made this all come so alive in my mind. It was absolutely wonderful!

The character development was phenomenal. I came to love so many of these characters and their families. We also were able to meet locals and get to know them. I fell in love with so many men. Oh my! It felt like you were with the main characters on the trip and involved in the search for answers to the missing mothers.

Each of these books involves a mystery. The mystery birth mother. Each of the families received small wooden boxes that held something for the adopted child if they came back at a later date looking for information about their birth mother. If you like mysteries and solving them, these books will satisfy that. They all can be read as stand alone books. So, jump in and pick one that appeals to you.

If you are like me and love a book with a good mystery, characters to fall in love with and sometimes cry with, and setting to die for, then I highly recommend this series. The Paris Daughter has Paris and fashion and love and what is not to love about that? Until next time…Happy Reading!

This book was the first one I had read in the series, even though it is the 5th book - and I loved that it could be read as a standalone novel (although of course I went back to read the first 4 books!) Beautifully written, I can’t wait for the 6th book. 4 stars out of 5 ⭐️

This is the first book I've read by Soraya Lane. I was attracted by the Paris setting and the exciting world of fashion. A dual time line book, we visit Evelina's 1930's France and travel with Blake from present day London, to experience present day Paris.
I especially loved the story of Evelina. From humble beginnings in rural France, she was determined to follow her dreams to Paris' fashion industry. And she was hugely successful! Although along the way she loses her own self confidence and allows males to control her destiny....which is ironic because she walked away from her own father to take control of her destiny. in a time when greats like Coco Chanel were pioneering women fashion design, Paris is an exciting glamourous place of parties and excess. But when you find yourself pregnant, the world can come crashing down. Honestly, I could have read a whole book about Evelina.....
But this book of family secrets would not be complete without a modern day element. Blake is Evelina's great grand daughter. She works as a writer and her family history mystery becomes her current piece of work. Paris is the city of light and of love, so Blake does find romance there....in an amazingly dreamy escapist scenario....but she does also find the secrets to her family.
The Paris Daughter is part of the Lost Daughters series. While I have read none of the others, and am not disadvantaged at all by this, in enjoying this book. The common theme of this series is the linking of a group of unmarried women. Small boxes of personal treasures were left by each pregnant mother who had found solace at Hope’s House. These boxes connect their past secrets to the current day relatives.
There was an element of suspense, which for me turned into a sense of love and admiration for Evelina, who remained incredibly calm throughout turbulent events . A woman after my own heart, who knew when to walk away, and be confident in knowing we can recreate ourselves many time throughout our lives. I think Blake finally did learn this lesson too....it is never to late to take a leap of faith.

Thank you to Bookouture, Soraya Lane and NetGalley for my copy. I have no doubt the other Lost Daughter books will be fascinating and I shall be seeking them out.

I have been thoroughly enjoying this series. Each book is a dual timeline, where a woman finds out she is descended from a home for unmarried mothers, and she goes on a journey to find out more.
This series definitely reminds me of The Seven Sisters series by Lucinda Riley, which I have also been loving.
I love dual timelines, and this book is probably my favourite one of the series so far. I have visited Paris a few times, and I loved revisiting the famous landmarks around the city, vicariously through this book.
Lane has managed to maintain her excellent standard of plotting, writing, and character development in each book, and I can't wait to see which part of the world we get to visit in the next installment.

I really enjoyed this book!

Lane does such a good job of weaving history into her stories. I loved the dual timeline, and what that brings to the story (dual timelines are a favorite of mine, and Lane does it so well).

This is another great historical fiction read. If you love that genre, than check this book out! You will not be sorry.

This is the 1st book I've read by Soraya Lane and the 5th book of 6 of the Lost Daughters series. I didn't feel lost at all, it can be read as a stand alone book.
It is a dual timeline book, set in 1939, starting with Evelina, a farmers daughter who leaves her home to become a fashion designer in Paris. What happened to Evelina is revealed throughout the book when her great-granddaughter, Blake, in present day London, is given a clue of a scrap of cloth and a fashion sketch from a home for unwed mother.s. Blake is an investigative journalist and begins to look for her great grandmothers story and she writes about it in a series of articles.
Blake follows the trail to Paris and begins to unravel the mystery of her great grandmother with the help of Henri, a famous designer.
The story is well written with suspense, fashion couture, unrequited love, heartache and family trauma. Blake's character development was realistic and engaging to read, her romance seemed to me a bit of a of a stretch as did her return to her dream job, but it fit the overall storyline.

If you are looking for an interesting book about historical fashion in Paris with both success and heartache, well paced revealing family history, that pulls at your heart strings, romance that isn't graphic, and a good feeling end, this is for you!

A big thank you to Bookouture publishers and NetGalley for the privilege of the ARC, all opinions expressed are mine.

Review for 'The Paris Daughter' by Soraya Lane.

Well I am ABSOLUTELY gutted to come to the end of this book as it ends my stunning sofa holiday 😭

This book is beautifully written and completely absorbs you in the stunning atmosphere of Paris completely sucking you in with the vivid descriptions leaving you feeling and seeing exactly what Evelina and Blake are feeling and seeing throughout. The synopsis and cover suits the storyline perfectly.

The storyline is authentic, unique and realistic as well as easy to read and heart-warming. It is just one of those absolutely stunning books that promises the reader gets completely lost in the pages for hours. 'The Paris Daughter' is the fifth book in Soraya's 'The Lost Daughters' series but can be read as a standalone. Each book in the series is a standalone but all have the connection of 'Hope House' which is a home for unwed mothers in London. In this book we meet Evelina and Blake. We start the story off in the year 1937 in Paris with Evelina where everything is about fashion. Evelina dreams to be like Coco Chanel but her farming family do not support her hopes and dreams and tells her if she does not marry she must leave. She decides to go to Paris and achieve her dreams becoming the exclusive designer got the most prestigious department store in Paris. However, after she falls in love and suffers heartbreak she ends up being the first woman to enter Hope House. Hope House is run by an amazing and kind woman who helped save so many women who were pregnant and with no support or other options. The owner of the house as no idea that Evelina is the famous designer. Evelina is made to feel safe and welcome, treated with respect and is allowed to make her own decisions whether to keep her baby or put her up for adoption. Moving to the present day and London Blake has received a wooden box from Hope's legacy that was meant for her grandmother but she had passed away. inside the box Blake discovers a drawing of a dress with some fabric. Blake works for a digital magazine and suggests to her boss that she writes about her experience in articles in order to save her job which goes down well. Blake's investigations sends her to Paris where she tries to discover more about her great Grandmother and along the way her own artistic talent starts to reawaken. This is helped by a man who steals her heart and encourages her to see what she can do and to follow her own dreams. When her journey takes her to the designers and fashion houses in Paris will Blake discover the connections? Grab your copy and follow Blake and Evelina's journey to find out. I promise that you will not regret it!! It is an absolutely emotional rollercoaster ride where one moment I was crying with sadness and the next with joy and happiness!!! Seriously make sure you have the tissues at the ready as very rare I am emotional unless there is animals involved but this book even had me blubbering it was so raw and emotionally packed!!! What happened to some of these characters was unbelievably cruel and I had tears streaming down my face. You will also want to book the day off whatever you had planned as once you pick up this book and turn the pages I can guarantee you will not want to put it down!! I found myself picking it up every spare second I had and not wanting to put it down so ended up reading it in one sitting in the end!! The storyline was filled with a range of emotions and was heart-warming, devastating and had lies, lost and renewed love, relationships, family, friendship and history all going on in this beautiful atmosphere. I loved the fact that we get to read both past and present time lines and Soraya has woven them together absolutely perfectly!! It felt like a lovely break away from a rainy Wales!! I loved how the story ended and I thoroughly enjoyed exploring Paris in the past and present. An absolutely stunning read!!!

It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture.

Clear your schedules, grab your tissues and get ready to go on a journey of a lifetime!!!

Although this is the fifth book in the series I would have had absolutely no problems reading it without any of the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

The characters were all unique with their own realistic traits, strengths and weaknesses. It was intriguing to watch Blake and Evelina's personalities, friendships and relationships grow, develop and change throughout the the storyline. I was completely invested in them both and my heart broke for what Evelina had to go through in order to try to live her dreams where she was living in a predominately male world and environment. It wasn't just these two amazing characters I was intrigued and invested in but every character I met throughout the storyline and each and every one of them had their own unique personalities, flaws, strengths and weaknesses ensuring they were realistic. It was absolutely amazing to watch the personalities and relationships between all the characters grow, develop and bond. Soraya's vivid and evocative writing skills and descriptions made each and every single character jump out of the pages where you could see and feel everything that they could see and was feeling. All characters worked perfectly with the storyline and I would love to meet them again and hope to see this made into a series or even a movie!!!

Well done Soraya on yet another absolutely stunning addition in a gorgeous series, I will definitely be looking for your books any time I need to be swept off on a memorable journey or to another country!!!

A MASSIVE WELL DONE to Soraya on yet another HUGE success!!! I loved every page of your book and I cannot wait to read more of your past and hopefully future books. This is the exact reason you are one of my favourite authors! Here's to your next success 🥂

Overall a true page turning, perfect and stunning romance that will sweep you off your feet and land you in Paris and in the past!!

THE PARIS DAUGHTER (The Lost Daughters Book #5) by Soraya Lane is a captivating and emotional dual time-line women’s historical fiction from start to finish. Each book in the series stands alone with the connection being Hope House, a home for unwed mothers in London, England. This series and author are both new to me, but after reading this beautiful story, I will absolutely be reading the other books in the series.

1930’s Paris France is all about high fashion. Eighteen-year-old Evelina has been dreaming and drawing to be just like Coco Chanel her entire life. Her farming parents hate the decadent city and do not support her dreams. They tell her she must marry or leave home. Evelina goes alone to Paris and is willing to work hard for her dream, which over several years, she accomplishes. She is the exclusive designer for the most prestigious department store in Paris.

In present day London, Blake receives a wooden box meant for her grandmother who has passed away. Inside is a chic dress drawing and a luxurious piece of fabric. Blake proposes writing a series of articles for her job as she searches to find the connection between this mystery box and her grandmother. She is desperate to find out who this designer may be and if she was her grandmother’s mother. The search will take her out of her normal everyday existence to the world of high fashion houses and designers in Paris. Could this connection be the spark to reignite Blake’s designing talent and forge a new life she has only every dreamed of?

I loved this book so much and I cannot believe I have not heard of or read the other books in this series. These books are easily read as standalones, but I am glad I read this book first because Evelina was the first occupant of Hope House. Ms. Lane brings these two women to life on the page as well as Paris in the past and present. The story seamlessly flows between the two time periods which led to me not being able to put the book down because I was so engrossed. This story has so many emotional parts, both happy and sad as the two women learn to be true to themselves. Their courage, tenacity, and love are evident throughout. I am so looking forward to reading about the other daughters in this series.

I highly recommend this extraordinary and beautiful women’s historical fiction novel.

This has been one of the best series I have read. This is book 5 and it's even better than the last. Each was better and they are all so good. Very emotional books that keep you turning the pages until the very end.

This book takes place in the 1930s and in current times. It goes back and forth as you learn about each couple, or each woman.

Evelina's story is told from back in the 30s. She lives with her parents and two younger sisters. Her parents have decided it is time for Evelina to get married but she has other plans. She wants to go to Paris. She makes designs for dresses and wants more than anything to get a job and make a lot of money. She goes through so much to get where she wants to get. Of course she is at the mercy of men and their telling her what she can and can't do. She met and fell deeply in love with Antoine. I did not like or trust him from the beginning. But she loved him.

Blake has a box that contains what is suppose to be her great grandmother's gift left for her own daughter who she gave up for adoption many years ago. Blake's grandmother has been deceased for quite a few years but she wants to find out what the contents are exactly. She leaves London and travels to Paris to start a search. There she meets Henri. Henri is a pretty good guy. He helps her by introducing her to his mother who has connections that just might help Blake find what she's looking for. Of course there is a love connection and a heartbreak. But can love prevail?

This was such a good book and a quick read for me. I didn't want to put it down. It's a very emotional story and very informative. It's well written. It has all you would want from a story and this series. From Blake being given the box to learning more about Hope who ran Hope's House for unwed mothers. I think Hope was great. I was happy to learn more about her in this story.

I look forward to the next book. I wish it was already ready so I could devour it also.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture!

I found the Paris Daughter to be very difficult to connect with. I felt the story was very disjointed and lacked a natural flow. For these reasons I really struggled with this book. What drew me to this book initially was the concept and I just did not feel it was carried out in a way that could draw me in any further than just that

I remain a fan of Soraya and will continue to read what she is willing to put out there.

This was a difficult read for me because so much hit close to home.
My nickname is Ab. I raised my younger siblings and still feel like a parent. I grew up poor and did tons of sewing. I was raised in a patriarchal family where women couldn’t succeed and we’re only good for marrying young and raising lots of kids.
The storyline itself is really interesting. I love the back story to the Hope House.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. My opinions are my own.

Paris, 1939: Evelina can’t believe her eyes. Her own design on a mannequin. As she watches those in the room in awe of her creation, she cannot believe it is hers. Present day, London: as Blake sits in her office with a piece of silver velvet in her hand attached to a faded dress design. The beautiful, breathtaking designs were left with her grandmother at Hope’s House. With her grandmother now gone, the design’s are all she has left of her biological family. The only way to get the answers she’s searching for is to return to Paris. When Blake meets fashion curator, Henri they immediately connect. But Blake must stay focused, she is determined to find out everything she can about her family. But can she find the answers she needs with the help of Henri, or will she return home with more questions and a broken heart.

The Paris Daughter, written by author Soraya Lane is a phenomenal story of love, family and new friends. I completely enjoyed the story of Blake and Henri. They were a perfect match for each other and their story melted my heart. This wonderful tale hit all the feels and left me with a happy heart. I loved the history and Evelina’s story. Lane is a master storyteller and always captures the reader’s attention at the very first page and hold it until the last page is turned. The detailed description of the streets of Paris made this book a wonderful escape. This marvelous addition to The Lost Daughters Series can be read as a standalone, but my suggestion is to read the entire series, it is phenomenal. I highly recommend this book.

THE PARIS DAUGHTER is Book 5 in the outstanding Lost Daughters series by Soraya Lane. I have loved every book so far and this one is no exception. Set mainly in Paris and told in dual timelines, this is a compelling and emotional story of love, loss, family secrets and daring to follow your dreams wherever they lead. In 1939 in Paris, we meet Evelina who has sacrificed everything to make her dream of becoming a prominent fashion designer come true. A devastating event forces Evelina to return to London and make an unthinkable choice about her future. In present day London, Blake has been presented with a small box that supposedly holds clues to her grandmother’s past. If what she is told is true, her grandmother was adopted as a baby from Hope House, a home for unwed mothers and the box contains items that could lead her to the identity of her great-grandmother. Now that her grandmother has passed, Blake decides to head to Paris to learn more about her family history. In Paris she is helped by Henri, a handsome fashion curator who has researched everything there is to know about Paris fashion. As together they discover the details of Evelina’s life, Blake and Henri embark on a romance of their own. The two storylines are woven together seamlessly from beginning to end. I truly enjoyed this captivating story and I can’t wait until the next installment in this series comes out. Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the chance to read and review an early copy.

Written by one of my favorite authors of historical fiction. When she has a new book publishing, I greatly look forward to reading it.
The Paris Daughter is the fifth book in the Lost Daughters series, of which I have read all of the books. This is such a beautiful story, told in a time-slip manner.

1939 Paris: Evelina comes from a working background of farmers; it is to be her lot in life to become a farmer's wife like her mother and grandmother have before her, but she wants something more in life. She has a secret notebook with sketches of stunning evening dresses of the highest fashion. Her dreams are hers and hers alone as she's not supported in her dreams by her parents so she must leave home. Becoming a well-known fashion designer is an accomplishment she has worked years towards, and it is finally hers.

Modern times London: All women adopted from Hope House a helpful home for unwed mothers is given a box filled with precious mementos from their mother to help the now adult child find their parents if they want to. Blake has her grandmother's box, and it has items connecting her to a famous fashion designer of some years back. She is desperate to find who this woman is as she travels to the city of love and finds love there herself, unexpectedly. Will being surrounded by high fashion houses and designers bring the spark back into Blake's life and give her the courage to design again?

Upbeat, romantic, encouraging, a real page turner that I couldn't put down.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book.

The Paris Daughter by Soraya Lane is book #5 in the Lost Daughters series.
A beautifully written dual timeline story that is captivating from the very first chapter.
We meet Evelina in 1927 France. She has hopes and dreams of living in Paris and will not marry someone she does not love. She wants to follow her dreams. Her parents are ruthless and tell her she must leave.
In present day London, we meet Blake.
Blake has recently been given a box with clues to her past. She is determined to try to uncover those clues to learn more about her great-grandmother.
Blake travels to Paris on an assignment, hoping to meet Henri who is a fashion curator and the mystery starts as they get to know each other and unravel the clues in the box. Blake and Henri begin the journey to reveal an unknown past.
This is a story about romance, love, loss, difficult circumstances and the importance of following your dreams. I absolutely adored this book. I look forward to the next book in this series.
