Checkmate is a different kind of thriller and I enjoyed the headers of each chapter, each a move of chess.

The characters are well written and the game the young journalist Cheryl is pulled into is as thrilling as it is dangerous. I adored her genderfluid roommate Sam and the way Checkmate, the mysterious vigilante, has been exposing corrupt politicians for years, using figures of chess as symbols and exciting as well as surprising ways of breaking their perfect masks to expose their true faces underneath.

If you want a fresh and different thriller, this is the story I recommend.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this eARC!
